  1. I've been thinking about breeding my Quartets...start my own heard. But seriously...upon suggestions from one of the knowledgeable members here of "centering my mains and center" closer to my TV. I have been wondering about raising my Quartets off the floor to get them more in line with my center. I have been thinking about buildig a stand/box to place them on. This box would be made so to fill with sand or material to make them heavy and solid. My main concern however is will I loose any bass from raising them off the floor? I would like some opinions before I spend the hours building the stands out of high quality materials. Please see the attached photos I attached in the topic "speaker placement suggestions wanted" Thanks, Scott ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  2. I have tried to record from satellite with no luck. The model that I have cannot "interpret" the signal from the satellite. In other words the recordings were hardly audiable (extremely low volume). I, however, beleive that the newer Sony MiniDiscs are capible of recording satellite signal. Sorry dub about misunderstanding you original post about using the VCR to record sound. 3. I love my MiniDisc. For those that aren't familiar with them, they are similar to CD's but you have the ability to totally edit what you burn. You can move, copy, cut, paste, even divide tracts, name disks and tracts from the remote. Can do much more than CDRW's as far as editing options. Optical/digital input. There is absolutely no noticible difference from the original to the copy (that I can tell). I just wish they would catch on in the States like they have in Europe. I haven't heard of recording movies as dubai2000 mentioned. At least I assume that is what he is talking about when he mentioned a VCR. Also, the disks are enclosed in a case much like a 3.5" floppy disk. Would be a great "add-on" to those of you who have everything. I have an older model that I got from Circuit City on demo ($130) with lots of features. There are even models that you can interface with your computer to edit right from your keyboard. Finally something that I know a little about. Now I can contribute a little. 4. Thanks guys!!! Gonna have to go to the news stand soon. 5. Thanks guys. I had thought of building a pair of "solid" bases/stands to raise the Quartets to get them more in line with the center channel. Thinking about a box type of base and fill with sand. My main concern with that is, will I loose any bass by raising them off the floor? I had thought about looking for another KG1.2 for rears and place them on stands behind my lazy-boy and in the small area in front of my acquarium. Also, was thinking about a pair of SS-1s and could mount from the ceiling. Was concerned about being mounted withing 1' of the side walls and sound bouncing off the wall. Any comments guys??? Thanks, Scott PS. Sorry about the sketch being so BIG, for some reason I can't get it to show up smaller. ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  6. Looking for a good Home Theater magazine subscription. Any suggestions? Used to get Stereo Review, but it didn't do too much for me. How about books? 8. Here's my present HT setup/speaker placement. Looking for some suggeations or insight on placement for mains and rears. I hope to have an Academy on its way to match with my Quartets to replace the KG1.2v. Also, wanting suggestion for upgrading my current Optimus rears. Guess I should have kept my old 4.2's. As you can see from the attached photos and floorplan that I have very limited choices for rear placement, I think. I plan to add a sub soon - any suggestions? 9. Ceramic Tile????? Must have been used for listening to tunes in the shower and even has built in mirrors for shaving. 'Bout like painting a '65 Mustang with a paint brush. ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  10. I'm still new to DD 5.1, as I just graduated from Pro Logic (about a month ago). I have learned much from reading the posts from many knowledgable people. Here's my question... I have seen WDST mentioned many times on the BB, what does it stand for? ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  11. I got basically the same comments from my local "high-end" dealer. He used to carry Klipsch for many years, but no more. He tried to push B&W and Paradigm which so happens to be what he currently carries. It had been several years since I had stopped by. I stopped by on a whim and left with a new Marantz receiver - so happened to be a display model that he had discounted. He somewhat "flamed" Klipsch, mostly on the newer products and "business/marketing" policy. I guess that's his personality. I had a problem with a Denon receiver that I purchased from him, when I asked about getting it fixed, his response was "get you a boat and use it as an anchor...". All that was wrong was the clutches in the volume control. But anyway. That's why I hadn't been in his store for several years. ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  12. I was thinking Gorilla Glue also (I grew up in the hardware biz). This raises my curiosity...why do you want minute flexibility in the joints as apposed to rigidity? ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  13. Dancer, Check out CDNOW. You can search for specific genre. Most have sound clips. CDNOW has helped me make many informed music purchases. It really sucks to buy a CD and there is only a couple of good songs on there. 14. Any word yet from the "powers that be" about the much wanted CLASSIFIED section???? Hopefully they are busy at work hammering out the details Scott ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - KG1.2v (Walnut oil) Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  15. Yeah, Optimus. I was embarrassed to have mentioned them. I have them because of their small size and have a great mount.(swivel mounted from the ceiling). I have a really odd shaped room - 12' x 35' with a 2' offset. One of these days I am gonna post a picture/sketch of the room for some suggestions of better placement. Also, with my old receiver (Dennon AVR-810) only had pro logic 3.1 hardly anything came from them. Originally had Pinacles. I am open to suggestions for replacements. 16. The Klipsch Classifieds - What a great idea!!!!! WANTED ---- Looking for an Academy, KV-3 or maybe KV-4 to match with my Quartets. Walnut Oil would definately be a plus. I just found this forum a couple of weeks ago and find myself coming back all the time. Yall seem like a bunch of great, knowledgeable folks. Very limited sarcastic remarks and those are usually just in good fun. Guess its because most of yall are passionate about your audio and are willing to help us less knowlegeable ones out. I have learned lots in my many visits over the past couple of weeks. Just wanted to thank yall. 17. I want to add a DVD player to my HT system. Any suggestions?? My local high-end dealer has a Marantz (forgot the ###) on "close-out" for $525 originally $799. That's a little more than I want to invest. Also, not wanting a multi-disk changer. I've just upgraded to Marantz receiver and has kinda got me fired up on total upgrade. (new center channel speaker, adding DVD, sub, and new TV). I've had my current system for 10 years and its time for an update. Again, thanks for yall's input on the center channel match for my Quartets. 18. Thanks guys for your help. Will definately add the KV-3 or 4 to my search. The size (lower profile) of the KV-3 will work better for me. As for the Paradigm CC-350, its going back to the store. 19. I am wanting to upgrade from a KG1.2V center channel. I have Quartet fronts and want to upgrade my center channel. Klipsch suggests that the correct match is an Academy but went out of production in '94 or '96. Any suggestions or anybody out there have an Academy that they could part with. I would prefer a Klipsch but would opt for another brand. I currently have a Paradigm CC-350 out on demo. Any Suggestions? ------------------ Front - Quartets Center - KG1.2v Rear - Optimus (haha) Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - coming soon Sharp 27"
  20. I am looking to upgrade my center channel from a KG1.2v. I have Quartets for fronts and the suggested match from Klipsch is an Academy for center channel but as luck would have it, they haven't been produced since '96. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Would like to stay with Klipsch, but would consider another brand (currently I have a Paradigm CC-350 out on demo). The sensitivity of the Quartets is 97.5dB. --------------- Front - Quartets Rear - Optimus (haha) Center - KG 1.2V Receiver - Marantz SR-680(upgraded from Denon AVR810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - not yet - open to suggestions!!
