  2. Max Gator, I think you'r wife might eventually decide that she likes the wall mounted SS-1's rather than speakers on the end table. I believe they would sound better as well. I have mine on the "back wall" as well (Which Klipsch recommends as secondary placement per the manual). Perhaps you don't have to place them as high as originally thought so that you can hear the speaker better when sitting on the couch. Also place the speaker as close as possible to the left and right wall for better bass and sound dispersion. As for the SB1s for mains, I think they would sound good but you still have to place them on speaker stands. If you were considering the KSF 8.5s (or SF1s) they would take up the same amount of floor space. Anyway. You have alot of things to think about before you make your decision.
  3. For fronts I have the KSF 10.5s (Each have dual 8 inch woofers). When purchasing a subwoofer, will I be able to notice a difference with a 12 inch sub or should I get a fifteen inch? Will the difference be in the quality of the bass (deeper and tight) or will the bas be simply louder? Thanks Keith
  4. Talk to Keith, We have spoken before on here. Ypou are the reason I upgraded my center channel to the C-5. I am glad I did. Question: regarding the surrounds, Have you heard the ss-1s? I purchsed these because I could not find a pair of the KSF S5. I also say that they had the same frequency range, yet the SS-1s were more efficient (94db cmpared to 90 db). I have heard others complaining about having to crank up the S5s all the way up and still can't hear them. I am sure the S5s is a perfect match. Did I make a bad decision? Keith
  5. Regarding surrounds, I am using the ss-1s for surrounds. I matched them to a KSF c-5 center and KSF 10.5 L and R. I am happy with them. But the question I have - Would I be able to notice a difference in the lower frequency response by upgrading the the RS3s? - I live in a condo and have no sub (unfortunately!) therefore, I run the bass signals to the main speakers. I also set the rears to small (Bass management) so that everything around 80hertz and below gets sent to the mains (sub if I had one). My conclusion was to stick with the ss-1s. Any suggestions and or comments which may support or redirect my decision will be appreciated. Thanks Keith
  6. In regards to the KSF models, I have the KSF 10.5s and they are excellent speakers. They have the dual 8 inch woofers where as the KSF 8.5s just have a single 8 inch woofer. I would assume that the 8.5s would be great too. The 8.5s have a silk tweeter (if I am not mistaken) which makes it sound clear and not as bright as the synergy sf-1 wich has an aluminum tweeter (if I am not mistaken) which some reviewers think are too bright for music (Sound and Vision Magazine september 2001 issue - Soundandvisionmag.com Textc> Textc>). I don't think you would go wrong with the 8.5s if you can get them for a good price. Regarding the surrounds, I have been told to "stay within the family" synergy with synergy and reference with reference. Perhaps the SS-1s would do the trick for you. I have the SS-1s which I matched with my 10.5s and they seem to work fine (even with the aluminum tweeter). Some charts even suggest matching the 8.5s with the SS-1s. If you can get your hands on a KSF C5 center channel you will be comletely impressed. They are hard to find but if you can pick up a used one on e-bay or something go for it. I have had the c-1 center and upgraded to the c-5 which truley blows it away with more bass and clarity. The c-5 center is also a perfect match for the 8.5s. Keith
  7. thanks for your comments. I have a Yamaha reciever and I will contact them as to the lower frequency cut off. Thanks again.
  8. Can anyone tell me how this works? I am wondering because I have the ss-1's for surrounds and they are rated as going as low as 60 hrtz. If I sewt these rears to "small" ( 5.25 inch woofer) what is the approximate frequency cut of when utilizing bass management and sending these signals to the sub? thanks for your feedback. L/R KSF 10.5's C KSF C5 Surrounds SS-1's
  9. I have a pair of the 10.5s with the matching c-5 center. I am having trouble finding the matching surrounds will the ss1s be adequate? will the new indoor/outdoor speakers work as good surrounds? Thanks This message has been edited by kmijeski on 09-04-2001 at 01:55 PM
  10. I have done some reading up on this myself because I am looking to purchase a new TV within a year or two anyway. I am waiting to see what progress comes about with the HDTV and the standardization of digital in set recievers/tuners. Anyway. I prefer the wega due to the clearer picture since it is actually a tube set rather than projection. The drawback is they are now only as large as 36 inches in diameter 4:3 aspect ratio. Sony is supposed to be coming out with a 40 inch (?) 16:9 aspect ratio tube set. This is what I would like. It would offer greater size and clarity. The only drw back to the tube sets is the limitation in sixe and the weight of the set (very heavy). Compared to projection sets. - Check ou magaxines like Audio/Video review who has printed an artical on just this issue like back in May of this year. Keith
  11. IF you have recently purchased these, or have had them for some time, The woofers may need replaced. - These speakers only go down to like 60 hertz anyway - They are not known for their bass response. I agree that the treble is very pronounced. These I guess it is the horn loaded tweeters. no way to fix that. Keith
  12. Regarding THX certidied, I recently spoke with a respected audio dealer - Watkins Stereo ( some older guys may remember these speakers - they sold patents to infinity and were a stong competitor to Klipsch. Anyway, His opinion is that it is a money making ploy for the THX people. It has no extra benefits, It os like an endorsement - which THX charges the reciever producer to put the THX symbol on the equipment, which is passed on to you. Keith
  13. Keith, Thanks for the advice. Let me know if you find any. I have fronts 10.5s center ksc c-1 (wanting to upgrade to the c-5) inexpensive rears (wanting to upgrade) Reciever - Yamaha 5150 DVD player Sony 560 CD Yamaha 5 cd changer Tape Deck - Yamaha - hi end Dual Tape Deck Yamaha - moderate VCR Sony hi fi Equalizer - Teac 10 band (Never use) - only for the extra tape monitor feature 27 inch Sony trinitron (upgrade when HDTV has standard in set reciever/tuner).
  14. When considering all discussed above, Is it wise to get a rear surround like the SS-.5s with only a 4 inch woofer or go for the SS-1 with a 5.25 inch woofer or the KSF-S5 with a 6.5 inch woofer for bettter bass response? Should these be tambre matched with the front speakers - or does that matter all that much? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks, Keith
  15. I was just wondering how important this truly is. Pro Logic apparantly sends only a limited signal (not 20 to 20,000 hertz) to the rears. With Dolby Digital and DTS they are sent the full range. Beyond good quality highs, what type of low frequency response should we expect in a rear speaker. What kind of low frequency response do we need? - Just looking for more knowledge than I have. Thanks Keith
  16. Keith, Keith here. Have you listened to the ksc-c1. If so how does it compare to the c-5. are they similar at all?
  17. Doug, Thanks for the Suggestion. Also who was that e-mailed me with the C-5 Center channel? Keith This message has been edited by kmijeski on 07-02-2001 at 08:40 PM
  18. Just curious to know if anyone has compared these two sets of speakers. What are the differences and similiarities. Can the RC-3 be used as a center channel for the 10.5s? I am looking to upgrade my center channel ksc c1. Thanks This message has been edited by kmijeski on 07-02-2001 at 03:56 PM
  19. Please let me know what the deal is with Yamaha products. I purchased a Yamaha 5150 over a year ago and I seem to be happy with it. I am running the Klipsch 10.5 with them. They have a similar configuration of the RF-3s. I am happy with the sound with my home theater and two channel audio. But is there something I am missing? Another thing - where can I get "classic" speaker matches - I am looking for a center channel for my 10.5s. any suggestions?
