  1. How would a Quartet work as a center with K-Horns? Also what would a pair in really nice shape bring today?
  2. If there is a bright side at least you have them home and able to work on them. I have had mine over 3 weeks now and they are still waiting their turn at the refinish shop..I also have the all solder cross overs with the monster wire. Not sure if they work or not I have new A-4500Hz to install once I get them home.If you want the old AK's there yours for the cost of shipping.
  3. In talking to the seller I found out I had out bid some one from France. Ask a few dealers and you will hear the same K-horns are going to EU and VietNam.
  4. There is no going back that's for sure.[] I just hope I'm going to love the mono blocks as well as the 60. I did get a response from the designer this AM I should be Ok? If I don't like them I will just put the pre amp on the TAD-60 that I was going to flip. I doubt I will ever sell it now. I'm glad you are enjoying the 60! Hibachi amps have much stronger bass response than the 60 with a fair amount of midrange tubeyness - especially when using a tube preamp to drive them to produce the best of solid state and tube power amps. Paul
  5. Larry I just E-Mailed the designer of the amp I picked up tonight and thought based on your post you would be interested in my take on this tube hype thing... Holy shit!! Paul, I have not listened to Klipsh speakers or any speakers with a tube amp in 36 years.. I found you because of a Craig's list ad for a TAD-60. I bought the Mono blocks as a leap of faith based on reviews on line. Today I brought home the TAD-60 and put a SACD to it with my LaSalas Paul I'm not kidding my wife went to bed early as I was setting it up so I'm now sitting by my self listing to to SACDs at a very low volume with a tear ruining down my cheek. I wanted to up my listing experience with the K-Horns when all the time I could have done it with an amp??. This is life changing stuff. Please tell me I'm going to enjoy the mono blocks as well...BLISSSSSSSSS!! --G--
  6. This time around the cheep amp is a TAD 60 with a Set of KT88EH tubes. Just picked it up today. Came with a set of speakers and some King Cobra interconnects, It was a steel off Craig's list. This will give me time to come up with a good deal on a McIntosh pre amp. This is a cool little intergrated amp.
  7. I have a rather large room that has my HT on two walls and I'm looking to set up a 2 channel on the other two. Speakers are K-Horns with a center. I'm going to try one of my LaSalas for now but will most likely look for a Heresy or for center duty. Size issue with the LaSala. The wall I would like to put them on is 25' I wondering is this to large? The other wall is 17' with one short corner that the K-Horn would just cover. Over all the room is about 35' X 30' Thoughts? Thanks for any input.
  8. Did you have it calibrated? I have the same set I think It kooks great, best blacks I have ever had in any thing I've owned but wonder if it can be improved?
  9. Nice comfy room, Is that a Samsung 63" Plasma?
  10. Hi Gil Are you the gentleman that was biding on the K-Horns at the sell it now store in Milwaukee last month? If so sorry about the sneak attack the last 10 sec. I really had to have the unfinished pair. Wile I can under stand the points made about the walnut I want to finish them to match my other furniture. Should know in two weeks if it was worth it.
  11. I am doing the same thing I did 36 years ago when I bought my LaScalas. Spend as much as you can on speakers and then a cheep amp and upgrade along the way. This time around I over spent on a unfinished pair of K-Horns. Going to the finsher next week. Then on Craig's list I found a TAD-60 Power Amplifier Push-Pull Class-A Design, UL or Triode Mode, Variable Feedback 1960's Quality - China/US Finished Design An Audiogon.com Favorite?? Dose any one know any thing about this amp? I'm picking it tomorrow to use wile I save for a tube Mac. pre amp? End goal is three mono blocks and a Mac. tube pre. K-Horns with a center. Budget unknown at this time the Mac is the big ticket I did find the mono blocks new for 1100.00 for all three. I went with price and reviews only fingers crossed. http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/amplifiers/tube-audio-design/TAD-125-Hibachi-mono-blocks/PRD_436770_1583crx.aspx Shopping list is, One Bell, Turntable, McIntoch Tube Pre amp, SACD and acoustic panels .
  12. Where are you going to put the center? At some point you also need to live with the stuff. I spent some time looking at TV stands and your not going to find any thing to hold a RC-64 I did end up buying this set and a RC-62 I'm using LaSalas and KSP-400 subs up front and I'm happy with the results. http://www.furnitech.com/ Had I have it to do over again I think I would have had some thing custom built. I found this member after I bought the 62 Damm I like this set up!! http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1314936
  13. Looking around E-bay when you say 3 mono blocks and a preamp with a center out. (preferable tubes!) The Marantz MA 500 & 700 are solid state? So you’re just recommending a tube Pre-Amp? They are affordable buy all six, can they be bridged? http://cgi.ebay.com/Marantz-MA-500-Power-Amplifier-mono-block-/250799065806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a64ca0ace
  14. I’m only going to try the LaScala if I like it the plan would be buy one new Cornwell or pair of Heresy’s in unfinished birch so they can be finished to match the K-Horns that also are unfinished at this time. I will look to the used market first but can’t image I get lucky twice. Of course that is IF and that’s a big IF I like the 400’s for HT I’m only using the subs at this time. I did the Crites cross and tweeter up grade on the LaScalas last month and liked the result so I have on order the same for the K-Horns. If I go with something like the C28 and three mono blocks do all three need service or just the C28? Any idea on a ball park it upgrade old tube gear? I can live with the time factor good hell I have had them over a week now and there just sitting talking to Santa waiting for their date with the refinisher latter this month. Thanks for the input it’s about what I thought I would hear. Sure would be nice to do both the Mac and Denon but then I would need to give up the Simpson pinball, some lines cannot be crossed…LOL
  15. A few newbe questions on two channel with a center. I have a budget of 5-6K My problem is do I update my HT receiver to a new Denon and use my old Denon ARV 5800 for the 2 channel or buy some vintage McIntosh for the 2 channel project. What I have to work with KSP-400's, LaScalas K-horns, Mirage Sub, Sony SACD and the ARV5800 I don’t have any vinyl to speak of anymore and pretty much only play cd’s SACD’s and DVD’sWhat I’m lookin at Mcintosh MC 2255 and a C28 or a Denon ARV-5308cia If I go with the 5800 and the K-Horns I would like to try using a LaScala as a center. How would this be wired? If I go with the C28 it has a center out what I don’t know is does it require its own amp or is there a built in center amp in the c28? The MC 2255 is only two channel. TIA for any input.
  16. do you have it hooked to a plotter? The laser is nothing more than a printer, I print from Corel draw. Don't think you will see them at HD any time soon. You can find a small table top Versa laser with a 12X16" table used for 2000-4000 it's about 10K new with a 30W tube. Mine are a bit bigger at 23 X 32” I was just thinking if I do the same to my K-horns there room to put a photo of Paul on them. Can you imagine that dialog on E-bay in 20 years after I'm gone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9APQffUViA
  17. Yes LaScalas I bought new in 1975 They neeeeeeeeeeeeeded it.
  18. WOW!! hey Bob nice job, got the crossovers installed along with you tweeters. watching Blondie live - Boom Boom in the Zoom Zoom Room in both 2ch and 5 ch stereo. Blondie and the sax solo never sounded better. Nice Job. RBW
  19. Ya but I did not clean them out well however, small bits of blue masking tape in the letters. Like any one is ever going to see them.. To bad I don't live down the street from Bob I think I could talk him into doing the marking. Not only dose it look nice it smells great!
  20. Just got my Crites crossovers in this week but before the install I found the need to upgrade the upgrade. The P-touch sticker seemed cheep and having a few CO2 lasers in my tool box I gave them some heat this AM. ceder sure smells good burning. First shot is the laser engraving second is the results. good hell I have to much time on my hands!
