  1. Do those cut down on the bass response? I think thats the problem I'm currently having with my room, and I am investigating some good bass traps.
  2. I'm about 3.5 hours west of Chicago in Iowa. I'll have to take some pictures of it for you.
  3. The only thing I didn't do was screw in the holes for the grill holders. Since I wasn't using the grill, this wasn't a priority, so I left them off. Thats the only differece between the front of the RC-7 and the "Super" RC-7
  4. I believe it does. The staggared array with the horn in the center really balances out the image. Much more like the RC 7, compard to just laying an RF7 on its side.
  5. So i experimented today with rear speakers. Holy cow what a difference...of course I'll have to come up a fixed shelf in order to mount them. I will soon have the pair of RS-7s for sale. The depth and sound compared to the RS-7s in that location are amazing. Of course I would never give up my RF-7s on the sides.
  6. Nope, the RB-35s and all second generation reference gear are gone. They just don't have a sound that flows well with an RF-7 fronts. My current front heights are RB-5s, which rock as front heights. However, I'm not sure about them as surrounds.
  7. I have two RC-7s at my disposal. I was going to sell them, but then an idea hit me tonight. What would your guys thoughts, opinons on using RC-7s are rear surrounds. At first i had a pair of RB-35s back there, but they didn't blend well at all. I was trying to hold out for a pair of RB-75s, instead I picked up a pair of RS-7s that I am using now. Since I can't seem to ever find a pair of RS-7s, what would be the disadvantage to running RC-7s back there?
  8. I have an extra RF7 that if someone wanted I could sell them, it isn't in the greatest shape, but I would let it go cheap. The new motorboard itself is farily easily to make if you know your way around the woodshop. Basically used the following tools on the motorboard, table saw, drill, hand saw, router. Then used wood goop to seal it back on. (Most of the RF-7 is glued...I wans't expecting this. The front is held on by what looks like hot wood glue, I had to heat it up and then use a chisel to remove it.)
  9. No crosover changes. Just a regular DeanG modified crossover. (Had to grab one out of the other RF-7 tower while Dean is building this one.
  10. Upgraded a bit: The imaging and depth blows away the RC-7.
  11. I have my two subs right in the middle, facing each other, with the one in the rear at 180 phase. They are gained maybe 1/4 of the way up, and still produce great bass, which I have measured at 115+ db. I have seen no drawbacks from placing the subs in the middle of the room.
  12. Yay! [] I'm serious, I never appreaceated the RC-7 DeanG until I swapped it out. However, soon I will have a custom RF-7 for sale, so I'll likely have to sell the RC-7
  13. If you RF-7s are not DeanG's then its possible that the RC-7 may seem less bright than the RF-7s. Also, when I get the RC-7 I would pull out the cross over and verify that it is a DeanG.
  14. I would be all over one of these if they offered 9.2 or 11.2. Maybe next generation...
  15. I will try it out. Got home tongiht and disconnected everything but the front heights...them seem to play material from the mains. Being such a small room, (12 feet across) i'm not sure the WD type speakers would help anything up front. It does the RF-7s a nice vertical image though.
  16. This might sound like an absurd Idea. I have three sets of RS-7s now at my disposal. I've been toying with the idea of setting a pair for front heights. I run the receiver in Dolby Pro Logic IIz via Audyssey 9.2. Currently I have RB-5 II speakers there for heights now. From my information I have found, the heights are designed to complment the surround information, if this was the case, there shouldn't be to much directed sound in those speakers. I am curious to anyones thoughts. Thanks.
  17. Given the experience with another member, good luck with finding replacements.
  18. Well knowing how the test with the RC-64 II went, I decided to move my RS-7s up to where my RS-62s were. Wow...I really believe Klipsch when they say the RS-7s were designed to be paired with the RF-7s. I placed the speakers slightly lower than the RS-62s, and...wow. The sound just rolls right off the front speakers and onto the surrounds. I have since picked up a second set of RS-7s for my rear surrounds. I'll have the RS-62s up for sale soon.
  19. Oh yah, its back already. I plugged it back in and was wowed on how much better it flowed compared to the RC-64 II. I'll be taking it back. I got it at a heck of a deal. 1280 after tax, but will be able to get a full refund on it.
  20. The Brick wall is really the foundation of the house. The previous owners just painted it, and since I don't want to spend too much money on the place. (Only 27 and might be moving if I get married), I didn't feel the need to stud and insulate the walls. I did run the Audyseey. It sounded much better, but you could still hear the difference in the speakers. Its just as if its a slightly different tone, and didn't sound near as lively, which I've become accustom to with the RF-7s.
  21. Also makes me wonder if the other use has ever heard an RC-7.
  22. Very well could be the difference between DeanG and Non-DeanG
  23. I would consider it a downgrade if I had it in my system. I'm sure it goes along just fine with the RF-7 IIs. Compared to the detail and brightness coming out of the RF-7s though, the RC-64 II just didn't do anything for me. It felt like the RF-7s were almost always coming out on top. I had to set the gain to 2 DB higher than level to where I thought the RC-64 II wasn't being over powered. At that point, you could really hear the differences between the three speakers.
  24. What a DOWNGRADE! After setting up properly level matching to the RF-7s, I turned on Star Trek Blu Ray. The sound coming out of the center channel was softer, not NEARLY as bright as the RC-7.I then noticed on several musical parts where the information is shared between all three channels, that the music on the RC-64 II sounded completely different, and almost as if it couldn't keep up with the RF-7s. Thinking this may have just been the Blu-Ray, I then switched to the Dark Knight DVD and the results were exactly the same. Very dissipointed at this point. I then switched to Rock Band 3, via the Playstation 3. This game puts music songs split between the front 3 channels in 5.1 mode. The music information on the RC-64 was clearly different than the music out of the RF-7s. I don't think there was anything wrong with my RC-64 II, i just think my DeanG modded equipment or perhaps the older RF-7's, RC-7s are just in a different league.
