This is a thread veer/side story:
I read an interview with Rupert Neve, whose company makes/made high end audio consoles. He had a big name engineer who called him about a problem with one of his big mixers. There was a noise at about 40Khz. He could hear it... they tracked it down to a bad solder joint on a channel.
I am actually glad my hearing isn't that good.

Lastly, what's the best way to get into the cabinet? There are no visible screws.
I think the only way in is to remove the woofer for access. Then figure out how to get bracing through the opening.

Those look really nice. Bob C. used to sell those caps. They are probably a good fit for those.

I know u're smarter than you act... but go to:
videolan.org
Download VLC, you can convert in batch.
It's a great program and it's FREE.

Aren't those schematics for the stereo version?
I'm sorry, I uploaded the wrong ones I'll dig in my files some more, unless you already have the schematics.

Those caps have been replaced, as Klipsch didn't use the Sonicaps.
When you are hearing the distortion, I would check around the upper back to try and isolate where the distortion is coming from, i.e., something loose, wires rattling together. Easy things to notice.
Even make sure the k55 is screwed on tight.
Welcome to the forums!

Community is in-person. It’s a canard to think online is really community. But it’s great for information sharing. If I ever meet any of you and remember your fake handle online then I might show some regard and defer. However my oldest friends know I say the darnedest things and they like me for it. Let’s not try to control each other. That’s the beginning of real community. Cheers.
Actually, a lot of us ARE community. Traveled across country to meet one another, helped one another, helped move equipment and supported one another when ill.
So some of us are old timers who have been on here for years and have good friends here. We know each others families, whose living and who is passing away.
Cheers

but the OP is unhappy precisely because of the choice to go 3rd party.
No argument there.

Whatever the mod guys do it reduces sensitivity and thus dynamics.
I know that isn't true across the board.

I believe they have at least one one the 1502 subs that got built. DTEL has one. That means there are only two others sitting somewhere.
I bet it was fun getting it up the stairs.

BTW EVERYONE has blown a K77 tweeter, if not they haven't lived
I never blew any. I sold the pair I had before I had a chance.

Mine came with full front grills installed at the factory.
I like being able to see the bass horn. It makes it visually appealing and interesting.

Im thinking this could be in the realm of the stereo bass arguments you will see everywhere. For example, one site says “As a general rule of thumb, it’s considered common practice to sum anything below 200hz to mono.”
I thought the bass was summed to mono for vinyl production/release, so the stylus wouldn't jump out of the groove from the extreme movement.
I know everyone wants to let go of this, perhaps a new thread could be started for THIS topic.

I was downloading some Windows Server updates and was still able to register 78.6 mbs down and 94.06 mbs up, between Chattanooga and Tucker, GA. That's with ATT fiber.
-
Our local power company has the best rates here in Chattanooga. I'm using ATT fiber (gigabit). About the same price as the power company, EPB. Was looking at their website tonight, and they are aiming pretty high. WE are a north-south and east-west location. I certainly don't need these speeds, or empty my wallet, but you would certainly have bragging rights.

I forgot to mention, my LS were early '80s as well, with AL crossovers. Klipsch had brown and black grills made with
- #17 = Duracrest, black, poly-olefin, stranded, coarse weave (Heritage only)
- #18 = Duracrest, brown, poly-olefin, stranded, coarse weave (Heritage only)

Anyway, what is that little speaker next to the LS? I ask because I have Quad/5.1 set up that I now need to figure out how to incorporate.
Those are my Heresy IIs. They are about the same size as my JBL 4311s (think JBL L100 Century with the bright foam grills).
I thought mine were stapled too. The velcro held them tightly.
10 minutes ago, Mycuff said:Well pretty sure mine are stapled, but wish they were black and removable.

the Dealer installed grilles were stapled , the optional grilles were made in Hope ,Arkansas here's a 2002 thread that confirms that the grilles were stapled
Those were stapled...mine were not... really. I was the third owner (at least). So, you could order them WITH grilles, held on with velcro. I don't see a problem here.

anyone can make their own grilles with velcro and install trim , it's not that hard to do
They were factory grills, really. I'm sure the crew in Hope could make them quite easily.

When I got mine, I backed my Subaru Forester up to the door... used two 2x4s from the back of the car, reaching into the house. I had an old heavy wool blanket I put on the 2x4s, and slid them into the doorway. I did them end over end into the living room. Nary a scratch on them. Did it again with another pair later. Just take your time a think it through. I weigh all of 135-140...
