  1. The NOS Valves gear is no joke. I have heard many amps and preamps, and these leave nothing to want really. They are that damn good. A few people really hate on Craig and his products, but to experience them personally is really something. I had a friend hear my system recently, someone that sets up turntables all over the world in world class systems, and he told me that my system is the most emotional sounding system he has ever experienced. I completely agree.

If you want some primo tubes to put in this gear, let me know, and I can hook you up. Nice write up. Enjoy!!

  2. Pinging?? Usually fuel related if this is indeed what you are hearing. Put some real no ethanol higher octane gas in it and see what happens. You might just be getting bad gas from somewhere.

  3.

    I'll start. Translations in red:

More dynamic at the macro level and about the same as you scale down to the micro level. Lacks contrast

Imaging is similar in density and edge definition (i.e. very good) but with a little less layering. Flat images

A nice sense of natural flesh and blood solidity comes through. Body

The acoustic around the images is less charged by the music. Vibrancy

The texture (grain size of noise) is a bit larger and more noticeable and in the plane of the music but only rarely intrusive. No clue

There is a nice sense of air and space Ambient information

Gives less of a 'they are here' perspective and more of a 'you are there' sense to the music Artist's are not in the room with you

A little less continuous -- a little larger grained -- but still very liquid and flowing and still making the music come across as connected from moment to moment to be musically compelling. Decent flow of music

    Shorter translation - Sucks!

Right, sucks is what comes to mind, but lets not be too predictable Mallette!

  4. Dallas is pert near Oklahoma. Actually Dallas can go join Oklahoma and improve Texas at the same time.  Go get'em!  Easy road trip paul!

Dallas and OKC are like twins anymore, and Tulsa is not far behind. I wouldn't live in any of these places again.

Now Austin.... I wouldn't mind living in "some" parts of that town.

  6. LOL! It is tougher to describe something you cannot see or touch, but I get what you are saying. There is a "lingo" that some have created to describe sounds.

How bout we play a game here.... Copy the above review that eth2 posted, and try translating each phrase into your own words. Should be fun to see what people come up with.

  7. That is a lot of amp!  Getting a little more than 100wpc now?  ;)

Right at 130wpc at rated distortion. Not too shabby! I'll clip them here in a bit.... Still fine tuning the bias. These things run HOT! sitting 8ft away on the computer, and I can feel them. Jeez.....

  8. They are complex for sure. Allot of trick stages in these things, and allot of FET's. Should sound pretty good. I don't have super high hopes for them though, because there is so much circuitry in them. IME, this usually gets you further from the music in favor of better specs, so the amp will do some things superbly, and other things not so much, but we'll see. Like all amps though, there is a speaker that will work wonders with them.
