  1. So mainly just recapping or what? What's being restored? I am curious.

Mainly yes. All new electrolytic caps including the big main filter caps, relays, bias trimmers, some of the hot running pass transistors, and relay drivers. I also see allot of VD style diodes that will need replaced. They are 34 years old and all original. I have worked on about all the vintage amplifiers, but have never seen these before. Can't wait to plop them in the system for testing  ;)

  2. Awhile back a customer contacted me to see if I would take these things on for restoration. After being turned down by a couple other technicians, and the simple fact that he actually has these things, I said I would tackle them. I like the abuse.

These are Class A monsters making 100WPC @ 8 ohms. These things running will heat a small house.

They were in working condition upon receipt, all the way from Flushing Mi, and I am fixing to dig in. Wish me luck! I might even post some pics along the way.

  3. I take a somewhat different view in that to really appreciate what tubes can do in your system they need to be the last link in the signal chain before the speakers.  While feeding a SS amp with a tube device may alter its sound somewhat, you certainly will not get the full "tube experience."  As to knowing anyone who services tube equipment, there are loads of competent guys around, so don't let that influence your decision to get involved with them.  With Belles you have a wonderful opportunity to try tubes without spending a great deal!  It's really something you should try to experience if at all possible.

  4. There is a pretty easy fix for a better center image.

    Finish this statement please  :)

The hard thing to come to terms with is that the room is the most important part of the system. For a fraction of your system price Rodney, you could have a room built.

  5. No doubt your sinus issue could be at fault. Is it all tracks that you play or just some?

What I have found that works quite well is pulling one speaker out, the one you want the center image to go towards, like 1/2" at a time until it is right. Or you could push the other speaker back, the one you want the center image to go away from, and do the same thing.

  6. Yep. Upscale is great. I have had a couple issues with output tubes, and they don't question it at all, and just sent more out.

I have had better luck with Doug's though for output tubes in the context of reliability. That, and they have the output tubes I like.

  7. I like Prince.. Very talented, and very musical. When all the other morons were playing rap music, I got the gals dancing up to my ride bumpin Prince!
