Yeah, this has been discussed for a couple weeks... they are local to me.

I assumed it had but didn’t see anything after a quick search so thought I would go ahead and post.

I have no application for this really but thinking about grabbing one just to try it out in a couple of different rooms. If not blown away I will return it.

  2. Been searching for new cans for quite some time. Just received these today and I think they are keepers. The design, comfort, and performance are all excellent so far. Not a bad price either at $149 ($399 retail) new on Amazon currently!

Thanks Johnny -  I agree completely with what you are saying - the only issue I have is the rear speakers as I didn't like the 10's and would prefer 12's with the stands

The XB-10s work with the stands as well as the XFS come with bottom mounts to accommodate either speaker? the 12s and 10s are the same speaker with just the cosmetic difference of a flat bottom of the 10s and an angled bottom of the 12s. On the stands you can't tell them apart.

JohnnyDrama - If you would have had the subwoofer and XL-23 I would have been very interested.   It is just tough trying to piece things together

Going to be difficult to find that set in great to good condition from a seller who is willing and capable to ship. I monitor the Icon X line across the country on eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist and have for several years now. They just don't come up very often.

You're going to cross the finish much sooner by piecing it together. There are a couple XW-300Ds on eBay now, coupled with my set only leaves you needing the XL-23. As soon as one comes available you can grab it. In the meantime you can utilize the XF-48s with a Phantom center channel.

    Just my opinion.

They are still available. The OP has contacted me on eBay where the items are listed now. However, the center XL-23 is already sold and the other speaker models don't appear to be exactly what he is looking for.

    Thanks for the help!

I think Bill Fitzmaurice's Tuba HT  Low Profile is the best performance/value ratio in HT subwoofers. You can have one built if you don't have the sawdust chops. Unless you can afford 4-8 of these along with the electric bill on the power amps, you won't get low distortion of big horns any other way.

My statement was made as a general majority consensus for products that are readily available/mass produced and people are familiar with. It did not include any DIY options.

Therefore, I stand behind my original statement about SVS Subwoofers.

And not cheap. Get one of them 15" ers and let us know how it is:)

Cheap is subjective, I think they are pretty cheap when compared to SVS comparable models. Which is saying quite a bit considering SVS is widely considered the best performance/value ratio in home theater subwoofers.

Those 530's don't match your 590's so you should sell them to me!

I will probably sell them. They are kind of overkill as surrounds IMO for the size/layout of my room. My only concern would be shipping as I do not have original boxes.

  9. One item worth mentioning I thought was the quality of the replacement driver I put into this 530 from JBL. I happen to have a pair of 5.25" Klipsch Reference drivers as well right now for comparison. The JBL driver is significantly heavier, has a larger magnet, and has a cast aluminum structure as opposed to the molded plastic of the Klipsch.

One with think this would translate into better performance.

  10. Picked up the 530s over the weekend. Utilizing as L/R Surrounds now. Plan to do some 2-channel listening with them as well at some point. These had some issues, one of the drivers needed replaced and the cabinets have several nicks and scuffs. That said I'm completely satisfied with what I paid for them plus the cost of a new driver from JBL.

I'm pretty sure the studio 290 is the replacement. I think JBL is really slimming down their consumer offerings besides synthesis.

Yea consumer audio obviously isn't JBL's primary focus.  Don't blame them quite honestly, super competitive, low margin business. I'm sure they do quite well in the large venue realm being the largest speaker manufacturer in the world.
