Depends on what’s under the custom cabinetry.  It’s probably fair if they are functioning decorators in a tuxedo.  If kits with a God knows what for components, then I’d be “a bit nervous” too.

Luckily my buddy is pretty savvy in audio and I doubt he'd miss a knockoff... But I'll be a lot happier when i see a pic of that PWK logo on some drivers.

  2. I'm picking these up this weekend from a friend.  He is second owner... original owner bought them in 1968 and they stayed in the same room for their entire lives until my friend picked them up a couple of years ago..

The trim on them looks interesting - are these a different version than a standard Klipschorn?

Enclose the backs and toe them out.  Very simple, 1 sheet of plywood and you will likely get all but the last 5-10 cycles on the response depending on room.  No screws need to be shot in cabs either.

That’s what I had planned actually..  too good of a deal to pass on... I’m a huge lascala fan, so this will still give better bass than I’m used to.

  4. I have the possibility of picking up a set of vintage K-Horns and wanted to see if I'm completely nuts, or if this can work.

The only wall available to set these up on is shown below - with the K-Horns sketched in... (Trying to lay out our living room).

Basically, they would have about 32" between them... :P

I've always wanted K-Horns and this may be my only chance to get a set - so I'm willing to compromise...

Hey Escher. I know it isn't much but I have an rc-35 i will send you to help rebuild your set up. No one should be without their Klipsch! Just PM me your mailing address. Jon.

Wow... That is an amazing offer!  Thank you so much!

Lets hold off a bit right now though - the house is condemned and I'm in a Hotel for the next few weeks until we can get into a lease home...  So it would just get stored until I get back in a house again.  Again - Thank you!

Ya that may be fine structurally, [which is most important] but it makes a mess as you've experienced. Hope all goes well, you'll be alright.

Ohhhh its not fine structurally.... :P

Its condemned currently - Main structural beam front to back on the side is split clean in two.  House shifted 3-4 inches off the foundation on that side.  Its a quad level, so the other half of the house is fine... just some stress cracks in the drywall upstairs that need to be repaired.

Next week they tear the bad half down to studs and start shoring things up.

Sorry this happened and glad that all are OK. My suggestion is to contact a Klipsch dealer @MetropolisLakeOutfitters comes to mind and get a written statement from them about current replacement models and costs. Explain to Corey what took place and he might be able to provide some paperwork for the insurance folks.

Question for the lawyer folk: if I spend X$ in 1980 for new and then in 2018 that X$ is equal to XXX$ (inflation) do I get that to spend for replacement? Depends on policy but in general if I have coverage for replacement cost?

Thanks!  I just sent him a message... I'll keep everyone updated as to how things progress...

  8. Thanks folks - yeah - its insane.  We were incredibly lucky.  The guy was arrested after fleeing the scene.  He had a BAC of 0.18, so over the top for Michigan (0.17 is considered "Super Drunk" here)... He's gonna have a bad time of it, especially after my insurance folks get ahold of him.

I've been out of the scene regarding Klipsch's theater line since I got these a few years back, so I wasn't even aware of the Reference Premiere line.  I'll send the info along to my adjuster.  Thank you all!

  9. Hi folks,

Well - A drunk driver crashed through my living room and killed my home theater setup (RF3's, Rc3 and Rs3's)...  My insurance company will replace the system, but obviously, since these were vintage, there is no perfect equivalent.  They said they will pay for "Current like make and model" of speakers... so - What would that be?  I assume R28F, 25C and 14s?  (I didn't have a sub)

A couple pics attached for the morbidly curious.. :P Thank God everyone was okay...  We are going to be out of the house for over two months as its condemned and has structural damage.

My vintage Heresy's were up off the floor in the den and were unscathed thank God....  Lots of water damage as the car took out the bathroom, livingroom and kitchen.

    - Chris

  10. ...and back to the TFM-25..

I pulled apart one of my Lepai tripath amps to see about changing the binding posts and noticed the output inductor was blackened and smoking hot.... Same happened when I plugged in the other one to test...  Not sure what is going on there.... so until I can diagnose it, they are out of service... funny thing was, they were sounding amazing...

So I'm back to the TFM-25.  I added a -8dB gain in my DEQ to compensate for the extra power and now the volume pot is about in the same place so no balance issues.

When people ask why I have a DEQ - this is why.... its like a swiss army knife with all that it will do.

  11. Just tested the system out with the Carver C1 and TFM-25.... The 25 is just too darn powerful...  The C1 volume pot is not very good at low volume (balance is off at less than 1/8)... and with the TFM-25 you can barely have it on at all with the Heresy's...

So I kept the C1 and pulled an old Lepai LP2020a+ that I modded to the hilt (youtube vid here (includes LaScala Porn)--> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTZJeVKlh3w&t=39s ) and we are rockin'!! A bit less hiss than the TFM-25, and much lower power so I can turn the volume up about 1/4 now....

I also swapped in my DEQ2496 and will be playing with tuning curves as well... For now I just a param EQ set for below 50Hz and Above 17 Khz to match the rolloff on the Heresy...

I forgot how perfect these little tripath amps are with our Klipsch... sweeeet....

You should do the BillD mods to that C-1.  It turns it into a stellar performer that's dead quiet and has an awesome Phono 1 section (2 isn't touched). I ran it and my M-1.0t MkII Opt 002 (460 wpc) and there was no noise on my CF-3's. Not sure about the Cornwalls, though. The VTA ST-70 is running now.

I had read up on those mods a few years ago and was burned out at the time from recapping both units.. but I definitely should go back now and have another look - thanks for the reminder!

I see a Carver amp.  Which model is it?

TFM 25 with a c1 preamp.... I've recapped both and had to fix a few bubbled traces in the amp, but both are perfect now...  Debating on using the carver with the Heresey's as its a magnetic field amp and may be noisy with high efficiency horns.... Works great with my Maggies though...

Truth be told - My former "den" has been co-opted as a homeschooling workroom for my wife, so my system is getting taken down and I'm debating what to do...  I think the Heresey's will be my main speakers moving forward and the Maggies will either go into storage or be sold.  We just don't have enough room for all the audio hobbies!

  14. Widened and deepened the desk and added side braces - all good now!

Of course I came down with a wicked sinus infection and now can't hear and feel like I got hit with a truck - looks like I'll be in bed for a day or so..  at least they will be there when I feel better...

Of course you're nuts.  Where's the subwoofer?

Klipsch CF-4 version 1.  Center DIY 15" w/SEOS 12 waveguide.  DIY Reference 15 sealed sub w/500 watt Yung plate amp.  This setup produces the most realistic sounding grand piano you've ever heard, it's chest pounding and the sound is stunning.

Sherborne SR-120 AVR, may it rest in peace.  I just got it back yesterday from the local electronics tech and he can't figure out why there's no sound.  It's now a 75 pound paper weight.

Definitely not nuts but definitely not ideal.  When you're that close to the speakers you'll never hear the 3 drivers properly blended together.  You'll hear whatever driver your ear is closest to.

You'd be amazed - but I don't sit directly in front, I'm back a about 3 feet... I don't really notice individual drivers until I'm literally right on top of them... they seem to blend in a *very* short distance.... like 12-18 inches or so...

That being said, I'm going to pull the desk out another 6 inches or so this evening and push them a bit more back.  I'm picking up some 1X12's and bracing to make a proper platform..

Listen to them as they are, then in a week or 2 replace the capacitors in the crossovers and experience an even better sound. The capacitors are cheap from PE. Just get 4 of these bad boys: http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-pmpc-20-20uf-250v-precision-audio-capacitor--027-214

That's in the plan for sure.... May just go with Crites.... but they sure do sound good they way they are.  40 years of break-in does a lot of smoothing out.

Glad to hear all the affirmative responses - we are all cut from the same cloth it would appear!

I popped the back off on of them last night... interior pic...

  17. So - I hadn't planned on getting these... but I had to... $250 at a pawn shop an hour away.  Perfect sonically - cabinets have some bumps and bruises.  Heresy I, 1976 vintage... K22 woofers..

Sound so sweet... but I really dont have a place for them.. I was using some RB-61's for my computer desk which were big.... lol!!  I did this on a whim just to see what it would be like - and it actually sounds very good...   Am I nuts?
