  1. If I were to buy a new TV today I would definitely go with a HDTV ready unit. It is a shame I bought a new 55" Hitachi Ultravision about three years ago. Oh well!!!
  2. I am getting ready to sell my Parasound AVC1800 and upgrade to something a little more high end. (will it never end?) PM me if you are interested. Price will be very reasonable. Check it out at Parasound.com This message has been edited by aab3rd on 01-05-2002 at 11:57 PM
  3. Welcome back avman. Also Keith is correct as well. OR, you could buy my Parasound CSE 6.1 Center Surround Expander since I am going to upgrade to something else and sell my Parasound AVC1800. PM me if you are interested. Check it out at Parasound.com This message has been edited by aab3rd on 01-05-2002 at 11:39 PM
  4. Option A: can be 6.1 or 7.1--6.1 with both rear speakers as mono in a matrix EX/ES encoded disk.--7.1 in a discrete encoded disk. Option C: is 6.1 either mono matrixed or discrete. Option B: not really the best set up unless somehow running 5.1 with four side surround speakers. There is verry little out there (none that I know of) with 6.1 discrete(i.e. DTS ES discrete) encoding. There is NONE I know of with 7.1 discrete decoding. 5. Thanks! The search continues.
  6. Without just rewiring my front L & R speakers, what are the opinions of biamping with the same amp. What I am talking about is using my Marantz MM9000 5 channel amp to biamp my front L & R and one chanel for the center. I would then buy a three ch amp for rears and use my Marantz MA6100 for a SVS sub. BTW the MA6100 is used for rear center now. Will this possibly provide a better(less bright) sound yet still retain the detail of the KLF-20s. I thought this might be easer to set up as far as lows and highs levels for these speakers.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I already have the KLFs biwired and after testing the CFs vs. the KLFs I tested without biwire and with. To be honest I did not hear much if any difference when biwired. BTW I use Monster 12 ga on bottom and AQ 4 strand (forgot model number) on top. Luckely the MM9000 has adjustable input level control for each chanel so I could adjust that way and then adjust the overall level with my preamp. Also, if not the Wave 8s, then what might be a good, inexpensive amp and what kind of power rating should I look for in this instance. I.e. I would suspect that a 2a3 would probably be to small in conjunction with a 150 watt SS. Then again mabe not. This message has been edited by aab3rd on 12-31-2001 at 06:10 PM
  8. Reading the discription, they are oak cabinets.
  9. If you are talking about these... http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1316695754 , I was wondering about that myself. I am not buying anything but I was curious as well.
  10. I believe that it is because AVIA has their input signals turn down for less distortion (or something like that).
  11. Please check out my question in the Home Theater Forum section for biamping with tubes on top and SS on bottom of KLF-20s Thanks, aab P. S. Please tell an idiot how to copy from one forum to another. This message has been edited by aab3rd on 12-31-2001 at 03:13 PM

    biamping

Hi all, Tweaking (or thinking of) is never ending. Yesterday I moved my pair of CF-1 up to my HT room to see how they compared to my KLF-20s. After testing I decided that I liked the KLFs better. They were more detailed than the CFs, but I also realized that they were also quite a bit brighter than the CFs. Now to the question. I was thinking that if I biamped the KLFs using tube amps like the ASL Wave 8s for the top end and my Marantz MM9000 for the bottom I might get a more mellow sound yet retain the detail that I like. Am I way off base here? What are the problems with biamping in general and also biamping using SS and tubes together? Please help me. The first cure for addiction is realizing that you have one.
  14. First off seven feet should not be a problem at all, and I would not angle them down since they provide a difused soundstage. As far as mounting them, I am not familiar with the back of these speakers, but if they are like my KSP-S6s and KSF-S5s they have keyways for screws that will accept #12 wood screws. I have them(the screws) mounted into plastic anchors into plaster. If going into sheetrock I might use a toggle bolt. Another option would be to try to get the screws into studs. My KSPs are rock solid on the wall. Best placement would be just to the left and right of your primary listening position. Happy hanging.
  15. roadk Check under products/classic/kg4 for frequency range and see how low the speakers will go then start setting the sub a little above that and adjust from there.
  16. I let my pre amp power on my amp via DC trigger. Less buttons to push and there is a delay so as not to hurt the speakers. This message has been edited by aab3rd on 12-31-2001 at 01:50 PM
  17. I second what ross says. Buy the best you can now and you will not regret it later. Jake, from what you are saying about your listening preferences you would be much happier with the 5.5s.
  18. What you are doing sounds like a good idea. The only thing I would not do (from reading on this site) is put the tube amp on top of the speaker. You need to sit it on something that will not vibrate.
  19. Follow up on the Bryston Speaker selector switch. Email from Bryston said that their speaker switch will not work in reverse i.e. 2 amps to on pair of speakers.
  20. Will a 2A3 provide enough power for a speaker rated at 96db in a room that is almost 400 sqft(3400 cubic ft). My listening volume does not exceed 85db.
  21. I have found a few items that might do this. Niles DPS-1.......can only handle up to 14ga wire http://nilesaudio.com Audioplex AB-T.....spring clip connections http://audioplex.com Bryston speaker switcher...five way binding posts http://www.bryston.ca Will a speaker selector work in reverse? If so this bryston would be best. This message has been edited by aab3rd on 12-22-2001 at 03:53 PM
  22. Along these same lines, I am wondering how you can hook a tube amp and a SS amp to the same speakers. This is what I want to do. I have a Parasound pre/pro/tuner and a Marantz MM9000 SS amp. I want to get a Tube amp to power my speakers for music and use the Marantz for HT with the SAME speakers (klf 20s). Can both amps be hooked up to the same speakers? Should I get an integrated tube amp and run the CD player through it for music? What is the best way to accomplish this?
  23. What are the thoughts on the Dynaco ST70? Some of these go on e-bay in the price range I am talking about.
  24. I am not BIG into music but I have thought about buying a tube amp to power my CF-1s for a music only room. I do not want to spend a lot of money at first until I see how I like it. What are some good recomendations for tube amps around $400 or less (with less being much better). The CF-1s are rated at 96dB so they are not SUPER efficient. Also what should I be looking for as far as such items as pentode/triode, different input/output tubes, or any other tube terms which I am unfamiliar. I admit I am a super-novice at this and I know nothing, but the thought of glowing tubes interests me. By the way, I did not mention that it could be either a intigrated or straight amp. aab
