  1. Glad you asked Dew. Good responses all - I'm researching now myself - this is good feedback! ellisr - good to know you can get that bright, that big, on low power mode - bulb life is a huge deal!
  2. Disregard - works! ...Brilliantly!
  3. I have an Elite VSX 53 receiver and I just purchased the wireless adaptor to try to use my ipad for their IControlAV2 app. I had read numerous reviews prior to wading into these waters that the setup is cumbersome at best, and unusable at worst. I have only had a couple of brief moments to tinker with this and hope to work at it more this evening after work, but have any of you with Pioneer/Elite receivers used this feature (or even just getting your receiver online) and do you have a better 'how to' process than the manual? I'm relatively "techy" but this does not seem straight forward out of the box. I haven't given up hope by any stretch, but I have that "this is going to take a couple of hours" vibe coming on and was hoping it will be a little easier to set up.
  4. Never a good thing to get something like an amp that looks like it came from a packaging parody video! Hope the return goes smoothly!
  5. Wake I may have missed it reading through your thread, but did you do anything special to stretch that tight? The silver is on the viewing side/white behind? Was it a royal pain or did it go pretty smoothly? I have little doubt, when the time comes - that will be the route to go.
  6. Welcome! That's a nice upgrade already! I learn a lot here too, I'm sure you'll find great value here as well!
  7. You have the ultra 2 and you've been to places with WAY nicer systems?! I'd like to run in your circles! :-)
  8. Good to know - will have to experiment.
  9. Scrap - thanks for that feedback! I like the idea of AT primarily for the center channel. I can't help but think this vinyl will be a compromise sound wise even for the 64ii. I may just have to resort to a fixed on wall and put the center below it. At 120"ish I worry the center will sound "off" being below the screen but AT certainly produces some audio and visual trade offs as well... For me I can't build my center into the wall so I'm looking at coming in probably 2 1/2ft or so to accommodate... Decisions, trade offs... Hmmm. I have time though - this is very helpful feedback for me - thanks to all of you!
  10. From six feet up. Camera and eye are different but I think it's worth a shot to try from 12-15 ft back. Vinyl may be a bear to try to work with, I don't know.
  11. It's quite porous, here's my attempt at a close up. I figure it's a relatively low cost experiment if it fails. It is vinyl.
  12. If I'd used a chainsaw - you'd be able to see my smile from Russia! The rest of those screens are going down with the bulldozer when they demo it. Hopefully some other folks will take advantage! They are pretty healthy perforations - I will be curious to see if it will even be usable in HT or too distracting. May have to go with Wake's Spandex screen idea.
  13. Sorry anyone help me with photo rotation?
  14. I also have to say that was a surprising amount of fun climbing a ladder and running a box knife through a screen in a theater I've seen a lot of movies in - I feel like it's now my own little piece of local history. Here's some of the jbls their boss man was taking home - there were quite a few more but paper woofers... Idk. The specs didn't look that great and I was never moved by the sound there.
  15. I wondered when you might have gone by - I thought I'd look for some curtain but I wasn't impressed with what they had. I did look in the projector room the only projectors they had we're reel to reel behemoths and three Dukane image pro 8910W xga projectors. No hdmi I'm guessing that's what they ran the premovie ads on. Buuuuuttttt - I DID cut off a section of screen - enough for a 140" AT screen! :-) I owe you lunch since you're local! Brought it home, wiped it down and will re roll as I'm a few months from going here but for $25.00 I don't think I can go wrong! Thanks for the heads up!
  16. I called him too to see about the curtains - he said make an offer... so... I may have to see about running out there and inspecting them. Great post! Nice to meet fellow Alaskans on this forum! He also said "if you're doing and HT - you might be interested in a screen..." Welllll that'd be a project - they're huge! He said I'd have to cut out a section and the tension system... don't know if that's worth it - but if he'd let us cut a few yards of material - we could build our own frames.... hmmm - the wheel sare spinning! He did say he has a few projectors (& lots of bulbs!) but didn't know the brands or the connections. He thought they'd fit on a table and possibly usable in HT - thinks they're pre-HDMI. I have no idea, but maybe some steals to be had!
  17. holtrp - I'm in the Valley! I didn't know about this! I'm curious to see/hear what you find as well - please let me know if they have anything you may not want - I would be very interested in some curtains too. I may give him a call too. Thanks for the post! We're holding down the fort with 55mph winds today. Great HT weather!
  18. I agree with Johnny and congrats on the purchase!
  19. + 1 (I think it would be superior to the tv, but without a sub - you lose any wow factor) IMHO
  20. +1 - beware the upgradeitis! Beware!! Your set up should rock your world for a first time HT! Congrats and enjoy every minute!
  21. I can only tell you I have demoed the SB 3 at our local dealer and was VERY impressed. That said however, I really can't answer your questions regarding comparisons, $150 better or not, etc. I haven't listened to the SB1. I have an Rf7 ii system at my house and I still found the soundbar to be remarkable at high and "normal" volumes. Very immersive for what it is. If you're going with a soundbar, I think you would be very happy with the 3. The 1 may suit your needs perfectly, but we tend to consistently run with the "bigger is better" theme in the home theater dept of this forum! Just looking at specs - lower lows (28Hz vs 33Hz) on the 3 and more power (300w peak vs 250w peak) will probably be nice to have. You can always turn it down, but if it isn't there you can't turn it up and get it. Dimensions H and D are about equal the 3 is 4" longer so make sure you have space. Good luck with the quest!
  22. Wonder how many speakers that will require? Not that anyone knows; to be safe, I'm buying all the Quality Klipsch I can find at reasonable, to me, prices. We'll all be in spousal negotiation mode when we find out we "only need" three or four pair of speakers along our ceilings and 'then' it will be just right...
