  1. Why do you feel that there would be no difference in audio?
  2. After thinking more and more about it, I am going to go with the Oppo. The UMC-1 analog stage is excellent, which should make it a great match for the UMC-1, and other owners at the Emotiva forum tend to agree, though obviously, they tend to be very bias towards Emotiva products. With any luck, I won't feel the need to upgrade to the XMC-1 , unless the Tact Room Correction ends up being unmissable. Then I am screwed
  3. That looks like a beast and is built like a tank Bill. Nice find! I will definitely have to really consider if I want to pay the extra for the Oppo or just go with that Denon.
  4. The world of SACDs are looking more and more enticing to me every day. There are some extremely attractive looking SACDs out there that I would absolutely love to listen to, so I am now looking at SACD players and naturally, the Oppo BDP-95 is the first one I looked at. A year ago, I never would have imagined I would ever actually consider throwing down a grand on a blu-ray player, but I see Music Direct has free financing, making the Oppo extremely affordable for myself. I have never owned an Oppo product before, but I have only ever heard the very best things about their legendary customer service and amazing products so I want to jump on board. Also, I have a seemingly fairly buggy blu-ray player from Samsung now that is very cumbersome to use when using Netflix and Hulu, so having a better functioning blu-ray player would be the icing on the cake for me. So I have a few questions which could sway me decision or to keep looking... Has anyone paired the Oppo to a UMC-1 via the 7.1 analog out? Did it sound much better than HDMI for blu-rays? Is it possible to play an SACD/CD and navigate the tracks without turning the TV on? I have an old JVC player from the early 90's I love because it takes about a second to turn on, and literally within 3 seconds of pushing the button you can have any track on the CD playing without ever even having to worry about turning a TV on. And my favorite part is the thing closes like a guillotine. How important is it to have an SACD/CD player with more than 2 channel outs? A lot of the ones I am looking at, namely Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon is 5.1. A lot of the SACD players I am looking at only have 2 channel outs. I am leaning heavily towards the Oppo right now, but that is also due in large part to the fact that I don't yet know what a lot of good options for SACD players are. And the more I look, it seems the more affordable and better I would be with the BDP-95. Some of these Marantz players are running upwards of 5000, and still only 2 channel.
  5. When reflashing the firmware, make sure you are going into the UMC-1 setup menu before and after the flash and resettings defaults.
  6. I was hoping to get a comparison of the RW-10d actually. The comparison of the RT-10d helps, but I am surprised you think the RW-12d is better for movies than an RT-10d. Obviously the RT-12d is a better sub than the RT-10d and the RW-12d is better than the RW-10d, so I can only guess as to the performance of the RW-12d and the RT-10d as I have never owned or listened to either. But going from an RW-10d to an RT-12d, the difference was astoundingly good for both movies and music. I would have thought the RT-10d would still have been a better bet for movies than the RW-12d because of the sheer upgrade I heard going from the RW-10d to the RT-12d, but just not as much.
  7. How do these compare to the RW-10d? I used to own an RW-10d and was not hugely impressed, but I am thinking this might make a great gift for my brother who has an Onkyo HTIB with a garbage sub.
  8. This begs the question, does Outlaw have any hand in the development of any of their products? From the way the letter sounds, I am viewing Outlaw as just a reseller of a product fully developed and built in China. There are a few other things about that letter that has me very confused as well. Why send a sales manager to china? The connection between sales manager and speeding up the development process seems odd to me. Are sales managers usually very technically oriented? I am not trying to knock the Outlaw brand or the Chinese because I know they have some very good products, I am just curious as to if this type of thing is the norm. It really stinks that they lost a good product, but it sounds like they had so little control of the product, it really wasn't their product. Unfortunately the only real loser here is the consumer. It is good news they have another good looking prepro on the way. These things seem to be vastly more complicated than I could have imagined, seeing all these different companies struggle so much in the developmental process. I read earlier that Emotiva has spent more money on the development of their new XMC-1 processor than all of their previous products combined. So it's really surprising to me that these small ID companies are able to accomplish so much. For me, they will always be favored and looked at first over the big name brands such as Pioneer, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc...
  9. I have audio dropout sometimes on my right speaker after messing with a lot of settings, but that's really the only issue I have now since I updated the firmware. You might want to check your firmware though first before you send it back. If it isn't the latest, update it, and it should fix all your problems. Make sure to use the newest files from the UMC-1 page at emotiva.com and use the alternate method for flashing found in their forums. I believe it is stickied. They are supposed to have the newest firmware installed, but such was not the case with mine. I wouldn't dismiss the XMC though because of your problems with the UMC. From what the owner of Emotiva has said, they will not allow a product to be released in the market without it being somewhat bug free. If it's has as good as it's anticipated to be, it's going to be one hell of a prepro for the money, especially if you got an upgrade card.
  10. If your receiver has pre-outs, it just might be the last receiver you ever need, despite being a mid-level model.
  11. It might be easier to look at benchmarks that others have done for your model of receiver. The more channels you are driving at once, the lower it will be. Sometimes it could get down below to around half what it says. The RF-7s will sound very good with that kind of power, but there is always room for improvement. I know Youthman had a pretty good write up comparing them to the RF-83's, and he thought the RF-7's didn't sound as good as the 83's, but when he added better components, the RF-7's started to come alive and actually sounded better than the RF-83's. I think the moral of the story is the RF-7's will sound great with what you have, especially compared with what you had before, but there is still going to be a lot of room for improvement later on if you wish.
  12. The curtain was a very nice touch! Are the RW-12ds holding up well in that large of a room?
  13. There was a guy a little while ago that absolutely loved his Earthquake and apparently talked to the owner quite often, he might have some very good info for you. I'll see if I can find his name. What's the sub for? I can't imagine you are replacing your PB13 ultras. PM CRAZY4SOUND. I haven't seen him in a while so not sure if he is still around though.
  14. Clash was so bad, I didn't want to consider giving Wrath a chance. Guess I will have to check it out now.
  15. Now you need something just like this...

    RC 64

It seems low, but not really too far fetched. Is it b stock?
  17. Idea! It looks nice and would be cheap, not sure how comfortable it would actually be though. Home Theater Seating Express They usually have one or two good deals. Still doesn't seem very cheap though. You could always try Amazon too. Used would be nearly impossible to find two matching sets. Is 'matching' to you the same exact model, or looks similar and same color? I love the seats at the IMAX theaters, if you can find a row of those to bolt to your floor, I think you would be pretty happy. I also suggest you go 5 or 3 if you can. Unless you offset them to the side, if you go 4, you lose your perfect sweet spot right in the middle
  18. Wow, looks like they will eventually force me into their tiered data model. That's not cool because I use over 10gb a month and would increase my bill by 50$+ per month. I guess it's a good thing I just renewed my contract earlier this year, hopefully by the time I can upgrade again, they will offer another unlimited data plan or I will have to go with someone else.

    RC 64

I was very happy with an RC-62 over an RC-64. The upgrade was good, but I don't think it was really worth breaking the bank for. It all comes down to how you hear and perceive things. The type of movies also likely has a pretty big effect. If you are watching an action movie where there is a lot of stuff going from left to right on the screen, you would obviously want a more seamless sound-stage. I have no doubt that he would be better off going with an RC-64, the problem is he (the OP) was looking for advice on upgrading his center, and we talked him into getting a pair of RF-83's to go along with it. If the RF-83/RC-64's won't break the bank, I am not sure anyone could get a much better speaker for the money, any brand. I was merely just trying to come up with a possibly cheaper, decently viable solution. Either way though, I have no doubt that he will be extremely happy with his purchase when he does find what he's looking for.
  20. Thanks for the link! Works very good streaming from razr via HDMI. This will save me lots of trips to the bar.

    RC 64

I think a pair of RF-83's with an RC-64 center would likely be the last speaker you will ever need. I would also keep an eye out for a pair of RF-63's. Just a week or two ago, a member here found a pair for around 600 from acoustic sound designs I think? I don't remember the exact number, but it was a steal. They were going just a bit more expensive than the RF-62 II. The RF-63 would be very comparable to an RF-83, and for the much lower price, would probably be your better bet. The RC-62 would also do very well with the RF-63 as well saving you even more money. If you can afford a pair of RF-83's with an RC-64, I would go for it, but the RF-63 and RC-62 would get you near the performance for around half as much money. Putting the extra money you saved toward a better sub would most likely get you better performance had you gone with an RF-83 and RC-64 with a weaker sub. Either way though, I have all the confidence in the world that no matter which way you decide to go, you will be very happy. Edit due to late reply: That is also a very good idea! Those RF-82's would make amazing surrounds for the 83s.
  22. Even with Netflix + Hulu, there is a ton of money to be saved if you can do away with cable. It's definitely what I plan on doing. I got the old Verizon unlimited data plan as well, so it's even nicer being able to turn my phone into a mobile hotspot, I can do away with the cable company entirely. Not exactly sure what I am going to do when Football season starts though, I can't miss my beloved Michigan Wolverines.
  23. You almost had me convinced your icon center was in fact doing a great job with your rf-7s. The RC-64 I is a fantastic speaker, and from what I understand, the II is even better. I could only imagine it would have been a huge difference. I know you kind of bought your RF-7 II's on a whim, so I am very glad you are happy with your purchase!
  24. 4 PB13 ultras? Are we looking for a good sub setup or a very expensive form of birth control?
