My Cornwalls are exhibiting muffled sound at times until I crank up the volume and then they "kick in" and I turn it back down. I imagine it's oxidized connections or something as the tweeters work fine otherwise. I'd just like to have them checked out and whatever is causing the tweets to not kick-in be fixed. I also picked up the two Heresy's a few years ago and they need to be looked at and given a little tender loving care. :-)

Are there Klipsch service centers anywhere in the US? I'm in New Jersey. I have several different Klipsch speakers and I'm wondering if there's some place I can take them to have them serviced. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. I swapped the squawkers between cabinets and the problem followed the squawker. I guess I'll be sending the K-53-K out for repair. The guy at simplyspeakers.com told me with the tweeters they were either good or if they were messed up they just wouldn't play at all. I guess this isn't the case with the squawkers because this one would play ok, then distort a bit, cut out and cut back in. Anyway, guess I'll pack it up and send it out. I just picked up a couple Heresy's off eBay to add to my home theater setup which is fronted by a pair of Cornwall 1's. I got a matched pair of HBR's and the cabinets have seen some wear so I'm going to either have someone refinish them or *try* to do it myself. I'm leaning towards having someone do it. Looking to have them match my black Lacquer Corns. If anybody has suggestions, I'd be interested. Besides the cabinet refinishing, I found out when I received them that one K-77 tweeter was blow. Could hear that right away. I pulled the K-77 out of the cabinet and sent it off to www.simplyspeakers.com for a diaphram replacement. $48.00 shipped. Seemed pretty reasonable to me and it came back working perfectly. Now, on to my next delemma. Seems that I have an intermittant issue with one of my K-53-K squawkers. Not sure if it's the diaphram or a connection issue. I don't know WHAT it could be but I know what it sounds like. It basically seems to crackle a little then cut out..then comes back and it sounds good. But it keeps doing it. Only one of them does it. I tried disconnecting all the terminal connections from the network and then retightening them down. Doesn't seem to help. Could it just be a diaphram going or what? If I need to replace them, should I replace them with the K-55-V's or K-55 somethings to better match the corns? Also, while I'm jabbering about the speakers, I played them a bit and I had the back unscrewed for the one exhibiting the squawker problems. What I noticed is if I have the back cabinet open a bit like 2" angled, the bass seems much more pronounced. Has anyone ever ported these cabinets like the Corns? Or is that blasphemy? I could easily hear the difference in bass response between the open one and the closed one. Figured somebody here has played with this and can provide knowledgeable information on why it wasn't designed in and why the sealed cabinet is better. Anyway, enough rambling for now.. Heresy's mounted on the walls would be fine. Just gotta fine good strong mounts and anchor them into studs. I'm in the same boat.. I have some Heritage stuff and some newer stuff. Cornwall 1's as fronts. KLF-C7 as center, RS-3's as rears. I just picked up a pair of Heresy's off eBay. First thing off the bat was one tweeter was blown. Sent it out to www.simplyspeakers.com for a diaphram replacement. $48.00 shipped. Now I'm finding one of the K-53-K mids is cutting in and out.. can't quite figure out what it is as I checked all the connections. I loosened and re-tightened all the screw connections. I didn't try melting the solder contacts. Would this be an indication of the diaphram going or is it either sound or no sound? At any rate, I was planning on using this set of Heresy's as front/rear centers. The problem with all the Heritage stuff is it's huge. There are several ways to go cheaper and smaller to match your Corns. None of them are the optimal solution for sound but may be better for your asthetics (or your wife's). I purchased my Cornwalls new back in the day and I've just kept them because I can't find anything that sounds as good that I would be able to replace them with. Not that I want to replace them. So, I tried to find low-cost solutions to creating my HT setup. While the speakers don't all timbre match as they should, they are *relatively* close. I'm working on replacing some of the speakers with more appropriate ones and I'll do that as I can. My point is that you can purchase cheaper/smaller speakers to round out your HT system, maintain reasonable kick-assedness, save money and keep out of divorce court. But like many things in marrage, it requires compromise. You will compromise your sound a bit, you wife will have to compromise her need for crappy ceiling mount speakers. Nothing mounted in the ceiling or walls is going to come close to your Cornwalls from my experience. It's a AudioSource SW-15 with a 200 watt amp. Was very inexpensive because it was a floor unit. The rest are Klipsch line speakers and are typically available on eBay. Anybody that ever hears my system gasps in astonishment. While it's not perfect, it certainly gets the job done and didn't cost me my marrage. Good luck.

I mean.. when I pop in a DVD and crank it up to between 1 - 5 watts, whoooo.. things are shakin! But we all know or we're figuring out that it's very damn hard to match Heritage speakers for HT and Klipsch really doesn't give us any choices in it's current crop of speakers. The KLF-C7 is a kludge and not the best one at that. An Academy is probably only minimally better if at all.. I don't really know. Hereseys might be a pretty good bet. More Cornwalls or a couple K-horns and using the Corn's in between (front/rear centers) would probably be really good but c'mon.. I'd need a huge space. Like I said.. HDR, I'd like a pair of Cornwall cabinets that look just like your Heresy. How about it? hehehe Is there something that can be done to my cornwalls shown in my signature? They are 1979 and the black grills are held on with round pieces of velcro.. original. The speakers have a slight overhang in the front which the grills fit into and are then flush. Unfortunately, there's no easy answer. You can look at what I've got in my link below in my signature. This works well. It's not the best but the best requires a HUGE room and super strong mounts for flying all your Cornwalls around the room! I'm currently looking for Academy speakers. They seem impossible to find. I never see them posted on Ebay. I got tired of trying to find some so I got the KLF-C7. It's not a perfect match for the Cornwalls but it's pretty darn good. If I can find Academy's to replace it, I might have to get another for the rear cause I'm not too keen on flying a Heresy over my RPTV or putting a Heresy on top of it. Like I said, there's no easy answer.
