  1. Just curious, why not go to Tweeter? A good sub is paramount in a home theater. It can completely change the experience. Bass is the hardest thing for speakers to reproduce, so spending some money on your sub kind of makes sense. I say pony up for the SUB12...the KSW series are one not boomers.
  2. It's actually closer to 4" p-p(using TC Sounds LMT motor).
  3. Right now I have two small 5 ch Parasounds...but so far I'm leaning towards this: http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=processors&product=18.1 I know about how finicky dipole speakers can be and I think I can properly place them. I've also always thought that ML's lack dynamics until I've heard the latest panel in the Vantage's, what I'm getting is going to have the same panel as the Vantage I heard but a passive woofer vs a powered woofer(I got the bass covered). If I didn't do an A/B test I wouldn't have believed it. Even if you can't afford them, I recommend everyone take a listen to the ML Vantage. I heard the Clarity's right next to my KLF20's and the Vantages and the Clarity's sufferred terribly from dynamic compression. Kenratboy, Have you heard anything with the new panel...the Vantage or Summit?
  4. Congrats on your purchase. I just hope you aren't making the same mistake Bruins made when he sold his Klipsch and bought Rockets only to have to sell them and buy Klipsch again. Anyway, good luck. I'm not going to be in that situation because the Klipsch are moving to the bedroom.
  5. Here's what I bought: Fronts: http://www.martinloganowners.com/~tdacquis/forum/showthread.php?t=1838 Center: http://www.martinloganowners.com/~tdacquis/forum/showthread.php?t=96
  6. As big a Klipsch fan as I am I just preordered some Martin Logans fronts and bought the center. How could I do this...well it was a deal that I just couldn't pass up. I work for Tweeter and I got the soon to be released Vistas(MSRP of $3695) and the CinemaI center(MSRP $1795) for an incredible price. This all came about because I was getting the upgrade bug and decided to lug my KLF20's into work to do some comparisons. The 1st comparison I did was next to the new Martin Logan Vantage(one step up from what I got, mine's not released yet) my Klipsch sounded like garbage to put it simply. I could definitely tell the cabinet needed some more bracing during the comparison and doubted owning Klipsch. Both sounded dynamic but the Vantages really brought out the fact that there is a cabinet resonance in the Klipsch. I realised I needed to put things in perspective because the Vantages sell for $5k. FYI, this was being driven of a Krell CD player and Krell integrated amp. After realising that I was doing an unfair comparison I moved my Klipsch to the main speaker listening room where we have Polk's mid and high end, Sapphire, Martin Logan's lower priced offerings, and Focal's Cobalt and Profile series. After comparing to pretty much everything in that room I couldn't be prouder to own my Legends. They blew away the Polk LSi, Sapphire, and the lower priced ML's sounded very compressed compared to the KLF20's. I then compared them to the $4k Focal Profile towers and to my surprise, I(and 2 other associates) thought the Klipsch sounded fuller with roughly equal amounts of detail. I was initially thinking the Focal's were going to be a much better speaker. At higher volumes the Focals started to compress, the Klipsch have their limits too but it was at a much higher level than anything else in that room. I now couldn't be happier with my Klipsch, especially since I had to go to a $5k speaker before I got what I thought was a better speaker. So there's my confession.
  7. If your Ultra is having trouble w/40Hz and above, I doubt it's the woofer. You're probably running into room problems. While I've only briefly heard the RSW15, IMO the TV12 can hang with what Martin Logan and Velo has to offer. It might have been the most effortless 12" driver I've ever heard. Frankie
  8. "Slot loaded tends to reduce port noise a little more than a round one." I've always been under the impression round ports reduce port noise more than a slot loaded port. I have no way to really verify either way though. Just curious where you came up with this?
  9. I just set mine up yesterday, this thing is really awesome. I didn't have much time, but in all of 5 min I'm at +/- 4dB. I still can't believe I ever used to use excel and my SPL meter while adjusting my BFD(it took forever!!!). Initially I was frustrated, but I later found I had a defective mic. By sheer luck I happen to own the Behringer ECM8000 mic which seems to be the exact same mic. I can now get rid of my BFD and my SVS black box now that I have the subsonic filter in the Velo piece. Besides the low bass sounding better, all other notes seems to carry just the right amount of weight. BTW, there is suppossed to be a software update that will allow adjustments down to 5Hz coming in February.
  10. Some info about the new Klipsch subs: http://www.audioholics.com/news/editorials/KlipschReference.php
  11. My trick to get rid of people is to turn into an extremely high pressure sales guy and constantly try to close them hard. If they're not serious, they'll ask for a card or say something like "I have to check with my wife".
  12. "oh, and as far as me "considering buying the sub", how the hell would i know if i didnt give it a decent listen? what if i was a audio geek/tech like i am now but had never heard of klipsch or been on boards that talked about klipsch and the rsw? because i have been on here so long i could buy numerous subs based on peoples posts and generally speaking end up with a good product. but if you have never heard of a product, much less actually LISTENED to it, how can i say if im even interested in it? is there something wrong with a "thorough" demo?" There's nothing wrong with a thorough demo and the sales guy's attitude might not have been appropriate, but you yourself said in your first post you'd been in there numerous times to listen to the sub and you'd probably not buy it because you'd rather build something yourself. You, just like the sales guy figured out, knew you weren't going to buy anything so he lost enthusiasm. I sell mid-fi gear myself and it's hard stay enthusiastic when I know someone is wasting my time. While I'm never rude to my customers, I admit I stop being helpful so they just leave. It shouldn't come as a shock, the salesperson's best interest is probably lining his wallet with green. Now I've learned that if I push people into products that benefit me more than the customer, it usually bites me in the *** in the form of a return. Frank
  13. One little note for you guys looking for a good deal on a sub. Tweeter is selling the Mirage OMNIS12 for $399 this weekend. This is almost an exact copy of the Energy S12.3 which has been Nousained and is only 7 down from the top...not bad for a $399 sub. It's the same price in the store or on the website: http://www.tweeter.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2018471&cp=&keywords=mirage+subwoofer&searchId=10417828910&parentPage=search If you buy it on the website, you can still return it in the store as well. Regards, Frank
  14. Yeah, I was deleting my email account from cox and didnt' realize that my webspace account went along with it.
  15. It's been a while, but the list is up to date.
  16. Most of it still for sale. Will consider trades for the lower priced stuff. MAKE AN OFFER...you never know until you try.
  17. I have a Parasound HCA-855a that I'd let go for $450. I've used it with KSF8.5's, RF-3II's, KLF-20's and 30's, all sounded superb. Most everyone agrees that Pararsound and Klipsch make for a good combo. With the high efficiency of Klipsch you don't need power. This amp would probably be the equivalent of a reciever thats in the 120-130w/ch range.
  18. Instead of reformatting for different BB's I thought I'd just post links: fabulousfrankie@hotmail.com B&W Nautilus 804 (DC/MD/VA pick up) (Is this a sin to post here?) 19. It's a damn fine subwoofer. The pictures don't do it justice. What they mean with the cancellation is since one woofer is firing to the front and the other to the rear, this cancels out all mechanical forces(vibrations) from the enclosure.
