Intermittent issues can be a real pain in the butt. 35 years as a maintenance technician taught me to just keep testing the suspect component until I was certain it was the culprit.

+1 on diagnosing intermitting problems. They are a lot more 'fun' than when something is obviously broken.

I swapped x overs and the problem tweeter stayed with the same speaker which indicates a bad tweeter. The reason why I was assuming it was a bad x over is because the non working tweeter passed the Ohm and battery tests.

If there is debris or something else could, sometimes, prohibit the vc movement, then it will Ohm good and play sometimes (appear to pass the battery test), and maybe why it worked when you played it doing what Dean said: by swapping the tweeter to the known working xover.  Can you open the tweeter and inspect for debris?

The enclosed cabinet boost I would say around 50% more low end in compare with non-mod

Location measured at center of speaker, 4.5ft away from corners and 10.5ft apart
Cost: one 4x8 plywood $70, one quart of Duratex from PartExpress (one layer, one side) $45, 20ft of window shield strip $20.

I used brad nailer 18 gauge.

Great job. Care to share what the cut dimensions are? I have some Khorns that I never listen to because the MCM1900 uses (hogs up lol) the ideal corners I have.

Not only is Chuck not a scammer, turns out he & I both worked for the same company in different offices. Small world!

The Cornwalls are now heading to East Tennessee where they will not be used as plant stands!

    Thanks again Chuck!

I have had Heresy, Quartet, Forte, Chorus II (x2), and CF-4 that got here with the obligatory water rings. I didn't mean anything personal by my remark.

    Congrats to you both.

Should go count all the turbos he killed on the Cummins-swapped F-100 on a drag-week event.

Meh. I was only predicting what I thought he might do, not surprised that he did. It doesn't take talent to spin something up past 100,000 rpm and then turn off the oil to the bearing.

Okay, I did LOL on the Cookie (Snow) Monster.

The same type of person would shut off a turbocharged motor at red line too.

Woofers and Teeters: I kind of suspected that you might be leading me that way.  Thanks, that was very gracious of you.

NP. Just making conversation. Scammers wouldn't mention Project One, let alone know about Playback. Welcome to the forum. I would love to have the speakers that you're buying.

There is a rule that you have to share pictures after you get them set up (and there will be harsh words posted if something is placed on top of the cabinets 😉).

Sure did, carried it out of the Playback store myself.

There was a Playback in a mall ~ 30 miles from where I lived and I was only 14 yo when you bought your Mark 600. Combining the distance and age, I wasn't in that store but a few times.

What speakers are you using now?

Thanks I appreciate it. I will post some pictures in the next days.

It's good of you to offer the parts here, rather than fleabay or other places. This place used to be a great go-to place to get help from knowledgeable members. As a way to pay back the help that was offered, I still list what I have to offer on this forum first. It wasn't long ago, there were people on here looking for what you're offering.

  10. Selling my Odyssey Khartago amp. This one is highly regarded and I can hear why. It has a high resolution and sounds great on everything I have hooked it to. The amp is in excellent condition with no flaws or scratches. It cost more when I bought it, but the prices have gone down some and are still $1,000 + ... my loss is your gain. $750 OBO.

    Specs:

    • 2 x 110 Watts RMS @ 8 Ohms
    • 2 Ohm load stable
    • Class A/AB
    • 2 – 400,000 Hz frequency range
    • 60,000µF memory
    • 40 amps current delivery
    • <0.04% THD (not audible)
    • >500 continuous damping factor
    • Input impedance 22K ohms
    • DC offset <1 mV
    • RCA inputs
    • 400 VA Plitron transformer

Just connected a set of Heresy IV's up to the Sansui. Amazing sound. Just wow... Had no idea what I was missing

Congrats. I have been a Sansui fan for a while. I have not had the 5000x or any of the older receivers except for the 9090db. I have had the G8700 and I still have the G8000 and it's a keeper. The CA/BA and older AU7700, AU7900, etc sound great too.

I would like to see if there is any interest.

The best thing to do is post a price and a few pictures. There are very few members here anymore. Be careful of the first-time posters trying to lead you away from here using emails or PMs.

  13. A guy walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check. He marched straight up to the counter and said,"Hi. You know...., I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job." The social worker behind the counter said, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a Chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter.

You'll drive his 2024 Mercedes-Benz CL and he will supply all of your clothes. "Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say, but you will also as part of your job description have to satisfy her sexual urges. The daughter is in her mid-20's and has a rather strong sex drive." The guy in wide-eyed amazement said, "You're bullshittin' me!"

The social worker said: "Yeah, well ... You started it".

Now wondering if the banana plug type connectors have any advantage in sound quality over the basic speaker wire.

No. Adding connections adds 'leaks' or potential problems/losses. If one can solder each end of the cable to the amp and the speaker would be best. But, I'm not recommending that.

Banana jacks are convenient and I use them, but they should be avoided.

  15. And to fill in a gap or two in this thread:
Howards has a driver now. When he posted, 'BubbleCub' claimed to have what he needed. To me, it looked like BubbleCub was a scammer, but I was locked up in the forum's slammer and couldn't do anything except watch the crime through the iron bars. Marvil was up and he asked BubbleCub for pictures. I PMed Howards and gave him a heads-up about responding to email deals. I have a few drivers here and sent one to Howards and he is to pay me back for the cost of shipping.

FF a day or two later, BubbleCub responded to 3 other Garage Sale WTB ads. He claimed to have everything that everyone needed: Quartet risers, a pair of CF3, and a K55 driver. I PM Travis with my thoughts and Travis tossed out the scammer.
