  1. Crites just came in:

Taking a breath before the install.

Scotch, Guinness, Cigar, and where in the hell did I put my solder gun?

At the moment im elated at the looks of these units, and the smell of cedar to go along with it.

If these work out as expected, I will be offering the old ones here that seem to still work fine.

And no ,the terminal plates don't come with them. just the crossover boards. These are 'Type AL'

Asking price will be the cost of my current scotch + shipping that makes it a 'C' note.

PM or email me if interested, meanwile, time for the install..........

Funny, don't know how to post a pic here so ill just put them on my Gallery.

  2. Today I promised myself I would bring up Craigs list covering everything from Frisco to Reno, (im in the middle), if I see a deal, I WILL post it on the forum.

Since my slant is toward Tubes and Klipsch, that is what I will post.

  3. I don't use my two channel system nearly as much as I do the solid state system. Today I was listening to it and after about 20 minutes the music started to really draw me into it. It may have something to do with the tubes warming up or the 2 channel system is a 4 way system compared to the SS which is a 2 way system using subs.

Don't get me wrong I like the SS system and the bass form the big subwoofers. I guess I need to do some more listening to try an put my finger on the difference. The one thing that is apparent is the bass from the two systems. Not more, since the Mc speakers have 12 in. woofer and 8 in. mid bass driver, but the Mc speakers are heavily damped and have an orchestral hall quality. The RF 7 system has a more defined bass quality.

I see your running a Yaqin, aint nothing better than tube period. iv been running imports for 10+ years.

  4. I am currently using a Marantz 2265 as a preamp with a Haffler DH-200 Amp. Am I missing anything by not having a true preamp? I never listen to the radio so the tuner portion of the Marantz never gets used. What is the importance of a dedicated pre-amp?

I chose to run preamps on both the wife and my system, mainly to have full adjust of Bass & Treble, also P/C Driven.

  5. I have 3 late 1970s vintage La Scalas that I am going to do some mods on.

I just ordered all the parts to complete the mods and this is what I am planning to do.

1: Cut the top box off of the La Scalas

2: Reskin the speaker bass bins with an additional layer of 1/2" Birch Plywood

3: Make a new motor board for my new horns

4: Cut out a hole for my Faital LTH142 horns

5: Install my new Faital HF140 drivers

6: Install my new Bob Crites type A crossovers

Something like this for the upper box...

What do you think? I would have loved to go with the Jubes but this is a budget upgrade.

Exactly the project I will be doing in the future, well done and a dam nice hone install.

  6. Ha, great subject. what are the odds of this ?

Looking for the wifes Klipsch on Ebay, scored for $400 Chorus, road trip to Eugene Oregon.

Looking for the mancave Klipsch on Ebay, scored for $1100 La Scala industrial splits, road trip, Bandon Oregon.

Im outside sacramento Calif, I simply ask the wife if she would like a road trip and she's down for that, does not even care why we are going.

She knows if im willing to make a three day trip it's got to be a killer deal. good wife.

  7. My Dodge one ton Dually will FINELY be paid off by april. that frees up five bones a month.

Come summer the wife gets her last 'new' car, Lexus is the only way im going.

  8. After seeing these photos, im going to need a theater room in the next house. believe it or not im in a 5 bedroom right now but without redoing the floor plan there just is not much we can do. the wife is happy with her Class A Mono Blocks in the living room, and since installing those, iv not even put the 7.1 back into service.

  9. Interesting thought you have there, I never really thought about what 'other' people think of my system.

Built it for me, and always improving.

When one of my bud's comes into the Cave, I simply ask them what their favorite tune is, once cranked they are indeed spoiled.

    1. When I got into tube amps pretty much yours reminded me of my early days.

    2. Best advice that I paid for , for years, scrap the amp, Ebay search, "Class A tube" and shop.

Imported stuff is kickazz these days, and they back them up. 70 watts in my Mancave and the neighbors are at my door if I crank 10 watts from the LaScallas.

Trust me, you time and your ears will thank you in the long run, out with the old in with the new.
