  1. OK so when I read about mixers these function as preamps too? How is the fidelity compared to these dedicated purpose only preamps?
  2. I pay real attention to people that have two aspects. One they have technical backgrounds and two they like quality music. Then I go out and buy Monoprice 12g by the 100' roll. The dude that does reviews for profit or equipment I read like Science Fiction as entertainment. This review mentioned at the start by the OP is a perfect example to me of a someone who has deliberately cultivated a persona and word jargon du jour for profit and or to impress others hoping they will not have the ability to look past the erudite facade.
  3. Hmm, you actually said this or did your doppelganger?
  4. Your neighborhood entertainment center just gets bigger and bigger. You need a set of Super MWM's to go with those 402's. Try blowing anything up lately?
  5. It's easy to do. That last 5% or less of potential improvement costs way to much for me. Those 1132's are good enough for me and I have extras of those.
  6. My MCM1900's are maybe 10" apart corner to corner and when I am just listening and not working and listening I sit maybe 12 feet away. So as far as I am concerned a room 22' x 20' is large enough. I had them 6' apart when I first had them and the extra 4' really made a huge difference. The thing most people who have never heard these think is they are to big and have to be played loud to sound good. Truth is they sound amazing at low volumes too and do so in more rooms in houses than you might think.
  7. I have a question for you. To preserve your music at it's highest level why are you not recording the first time play of the record and using that file from then on? Maybe the degradation is much slower with the newer gear but it still has to be there. I am asking strictly in regards to the quality of the music and not the fun you have with how you play it and what you play it on.
  8. OK that I can buy into. This is just not important to me but if you like doing it for yourself that is all part of it. Finding high quality recordings is a challenge but it was that way to with records if i remember right. Only a select few were top quality and they were extra and not common back in the days when they were king.
  9. Yup great cables DO make a difference. I really like the way my 100' roll of Monoprice 12g sounds. I have noticed that things are far crisper now and the definition has become super well defined. You can tell what side of the fret the Bass player has his fingers on and I had never realized how many subtle but noticeable sounds I had been missing. I whip off another twenty feet of this stuff when I need it and the resultant immersive audio experience just blows me away.
  10. I can assure you I have sunk even lower than that. I use a Roncomatic Computer Folder for my instapop popcorn maker. Seriously I don't need anything other than listening to my music and the idea that I am missing a vinyl tea ceremony is kind of strange.
  11. Just wow. I did not realize I had been missing this very important aspect of listening to music. I feel this terrible void now that must be filled with tactile sensations.
  12. Cash funnels to someones bank account.
  13. Does anyone have any recommendations here? I would like to keep all the electronics mounted in my rack and be able to safely transport them if needed. I have an Integra 50.4 which will work for a preamp. I have no idea how well it will do so and I am not thrilled about the audio output from it. I have the Crowns right below the Integra and the Integra stays off for95% of the time. Seems a waste to use that big box just for a preamp even though it is a bird in the hand.
  14. Thanks for the offer but I will pass on it. Have any rack mount preamp recommendations? I have an Integra 50.4 I can use but it is huge and I am not all that crazy about how it sounds as an amp. Maybe the preamp part is better.
  15. Morning show is presented by ODS123. He is falling down on the job though.
  16. OK so I go and read that article. That guy is nutso and needs some $250 beeswax impregnated fuses to go with his I can HEAR the difference $4,000 speaker cables.
  17. That hard drive can sure hold a lot of albums and it is the way I choose to go. Plus mix and match and playlists for the day.
  18. + 100 times. I am done after this S-MWM build and will be looking for better files to play. The experimenting is over.
  19. Hi Mr Time Enforcer. You know you blew it when you could not make it down here and that gave me time to do all kinds of other things instead. Yeah I am making small piles of sawdust. Using that 1" baltic is a PITA though as my forklift is out for repairs that are taking too long and it is hard to move these on my own. Supposed to have work resume on the forklift this coming Wednesday. Does Tweeter dust count? I am going to put removable handles on the outside of these as it is a two man job to pick them up. Figure around 280 to 300 pounds per. So who is Mr. procrastinator #1?
  20. That's right. I can admire what someone else has but what I will have is good enough for me and better than what 95% of the "audiophiles" will ever hear anyway.
  21. True. I have people come here when I have more than one type of speaker for sale and they ask me what I like best. I always have an answer and we always listen to them all because sometimes they prefer the ones I don't like as much. I wish they were making a new version of the Chorus because for my taste they beat the Fortes and Cornwalls.
