Looks can be deceiving of course.

Others may say more. Not your but the sellers  concern could be patent issue.. in my limited opinion.

    IAC ... good fortune.

20 years and that is up just like it is for the 402. Now with mumps Klipsch is protected even though other companies have done the same basic thing before. I wonder if these new ones are as seriously brittle as the OEM 510's are.

If we are going to do this, how about $80 per month for an apartment in the S.F. bay area in 1969?  I was making $346/month.  What happened?

The stuff passed by Congress in 1913 is what happened. Just takes time to make it all work real well for the guys on top.

This is true, but not by as much as say as several 15 inchers mounted as direct radiators would have! It is woofer X-Mas that causes distortion...

    Roger

Have to disagree with this. One 15" woofer in my S-MWM's is WAY more than the 904 bass bins I have in my shop right now. Side by side comparison and the 904's lose and not by just a little. Now 4-15" woofers might get there but the sound is muddier and yes I have some 415 bass bins here that I have compared them to. I think the 415's would have greater db output perhaps but I will never know since I am not turning either all the way up.

Your kidding?  A cabinet with two 15"s instead of one and much larger internal volume wins?   Who'dathunkit?  And the smallest HF horn is the 510. I woild say..... Yeah I woild think so.

Actually a correctly built cabinet with one 15" woofer will beat these things silly and go  down below 30hz full output doing it.

My first year with Chrysler (1972) I was making $9 something an hour. People in Detroit were buying new cars, had nice houses and were taking vacations and saving for their kids college on that hourly wage and the wife did not have to work.

I agree. Twin 15's is better than One 21. Two motors in tandem, the only thing better is a Quad of 15's, or a BIG Horn!!!

Hi Claude, There is a reason that same basic bass bin has been around for 30 years.

Interesting, I didn't know the KPT 396 existed.   Highly doubt it would be much cheaper than the ki 396 II, but you never know until you ask I suppose.  Man, if I had the xilica at the time I had the 396s, I may never have gotten rid of them.   They really need eq boost in the high frequencies at lower volumes and the grilles off.

    Earlier version.

never been to Tennessee, but my pops was born there.

my lungs determine where I live ... my Asthma can't tolerate heat & humidity and my lungs get very angry at me when I put them in those conditions.

I lived most of my life in the greater Los Angeles area and while some of those negatives mentioned are true, they aren't things that are encountered daily (well, traffic maybe).

Housing cost is the biggest issue -- all that other stuff is pretty much avoidable.

Knew a guy who moved from here because of lung problems. They ended up in New Mexico at higher elevations and last I hear they like the mild climate and lack of humidity. Rural of course.

And then there are quite a few locations that are uniquely beautiful.

There is real natural beauty out there. Cross country skiing in Sequoia and the Redwoods and the desert around Ridgecrest going up into the mountains. I have fond memories of that.

Funny you said that as today I was at my daughters house in Nashville discussing things and that topic came up. I do not ever want to leave here and wont while I am living is my hope. Spring is starting here and every day is new and different visually. Oh and the new stuff is not the latest graffiti!!

I live a few miles out of a tiny old timber town nestled up in the woods miles from the nearest two lane state highway,of course there are a few bad apples in any town but for the most part it's loggers and ranchers and other salt of the earth folks out here.

Only about 1500 people in the town limits and the rest of us on acreage with the national forest just east of town a bit.

No bum camps, you won't find needles and other waste from druggie bum camps out here,it will not be tolerated.

We are a little red zone in a blue state, our little town voted it'self a second amendment sanctuary city if that tells you anything.

Damn near everyone is armed,we all know the local sheriff deputy and anyone not from here sticks out like a sore thumb and will have eyes on them,

That's not to say it's an unfriendly town just that we look out for one another and it's not a good place to mess around if you're riffraff.

My kids grew up having campfires in the woods not hanging out on the streets and now in their 30's going jeeping in the snow and having get-togethers  with their friends in the woods is still their thing.

I know what you mean. I did not lock my shop up until about seven years ago when just to many new people moved into the area and we started having a few breakins in the area. My immediate neighbors regarded me as the newcomer for some time but after 30 years here this is no longer so. Hunt from my front deck or shoot Tannerite and no one says a thing. Dead end road and if you are back here and we don't recognize the car we watch.

Zappa was also from California...a true voice for real freedom if there ever was one.

I still play "I'm The Slime" from him on occasion and you are so right. It is the perfect summation of PC mindset indoctrination efforts by the public education system and DNC syncophants  like CNN ABC MSBSNBC. Truly way ahead of his time with this song. I was thinking about this thread yesterday and contemplating the concept of the frog in a pan of water with the heat slowly rising does not leave and is cooked. Drop that same frog in a pan of hot water and he does his best to leap out.

    I am gross and perverted
    I'm obsessed 'n deranged
    I have existed for years
    But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
    And Industry too
For I am destined to rule
    And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
    But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
    Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozing out
    From your TV set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't go for help, no one will heed you
    Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

"That's right, folks.. Don't touch that dial!"

Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livingroom floor
I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, look at me go

You're just lucky you were indoctrinated by good PC teachers.

Well there are those who know what works based on what societies thrived and flourished and grew throughout history and those that that failed and can tell you why. That is presenting evidence with case studies VS indoctrination which states this thing that has never been proven to work is better. One side teaches critical examination of the evidence and think for yourself and the other side teaches do not look behind the curtain and do what we tell you to do. There is a serious difference between being taught and being tricked.

And you know that their little lives can become such a mess....

But of course, only the contrary thinker is the indoctrinated one.

Great straw man comment. But yes when the contrarian thinks the Venezuala model which has never worked is OK he is indoctrinated. I don't understand why these guys think this time around it will work when it never has. About contrarians. Since conservatives are the real minority out there now are they A, enlightened or B, indoctrinated.

I actually think you're onto something with your placement. If those MWM's were straight up instead of slanted back (maybe legs on the back to prop them up) you could mount the horns to the middle flats and have a pair of 3-way CF's on steroids!

That mid section is only 18" across so you can't fit big horns in there.

  15. Recap those crossovers and use a 68uf Audyn poly cap from Parts Express for the woofer circuit, not the electrolytic ones. Every Chorus I get is recapped and yes all those old mylar caps are no good.  Best cheap most dollar effective Chorus upgrade is recapping.

Also, if you have any kids consider that California will distort and quite likely redirect their lives in some unpleasant ways. Try to not let the Southern California ‘bling’ sparkle up your expectations.

They will take your children from you and make them into strange things. The indoctrination is severe out there unless you can find a good private school which is of course more $$$$$. Good you mention this  Bosco and I had thought about doing the same. My two brothers went to UM in Ann Arbor just when the femin----s got rolling. One brother escaped with his mind intact and the other Dad said he did not know after six months. This aberration in my one brother stayed with him all his life and while Dad had much to discuss with my one brother and I the nutso one was so far out there that there was no reasoning. We could talk and debate and be civil about it but nutso would immediately be angry as vitriol poured forth with scorn and sadly he was molded by bad PC teachers and never recovered.

Ann Arbor was bad for it's day and I cant imagine what schools are like out there in CA this day and time.
