  1. Thanks. My pictures show the Rosewood Klipschorns, but if you order a similar finish on your new Jubilees, they would also be very attractive.
  2. The big KPT speakers will be better with more space, so I am relocating the front K-horns to a different room.
  3. Was just recently telling a friend that the finishes in the picture above are temporary, while I decide what exotic veneer to use on the full set of speakers. Cutting four 15" inch holes in expensive sheets of rare wood is making me think carefully about grain pattern layout.
  4. Yes. If you want a subwoofer in your system, but for many people, the Heresy IIIs sound good by themselves.
  5. The picture frame on the right speaker makes the horn look smaller than the left one.
  6. After vertically aligning the voice coils, the tweeter was in a position to radiate onto the backside of the K-402, so I put a mat of ROXUL into a black pillow case, to absorb that angle of dispersion.
  7. I measure just one and then copy, because of the time involved, but thinking about it now, the auto-EQ systems measure each individual speaker and the results are different for each one.
  8. Thanks for your explanations. I now understand about specifically combining the driver roll-off with the PEQ slope, but I am reading the implication that a 6db/oct PEQ filter does not add phase shift, while the named 6db/oct filter slopes do cause phase shift. Is that correct?
  9. Klipsch are my favorite mood-expressing speakers. The newest ones are bigger, bolder and doing a great job with the good-mood effect.
  10. Can you describe these again for us readers (or just me) who missed any previous details.
  11. Thanks. The picture frame does give it a nice finished look. I veneered a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood, sawed it into 2" wide strips, cut the ends with a miter saw, then glued and clamped it together. I attached 4 neo magnets to the frame and used 4 wide head, low profile bolts for the horn flange mounting brackets. The magnetic attachment allows easy removal for possible color changes, or to listen for any acoustic interference.
  12. I bought the vinyl wrap from Amazon. The VViVid brand, it is 4 feet wide and available in different lengths. Used 9 linear feet on the pair of K-402 horns. I suggest ordering samples, because some of the wood grain vinyl colors are unusual. This was my first vinyl wrap experience, so I watched youtube videos, bought an installation tool kit and a 50 foot roll of "knifeless tape", the thin green line in the corners of the horn in my picture below. It is taped down where you want to make a cut, and the vinyl is layed and squeegeed. Then you pull the thin filament string of the knifeless tape up, which cuts through the vinyl. You do this for each layer, allowing a very slight overlap on the second layer to avoid leaving a gap. If you are you asking about the "picture frame", I will describe it in the next post.
  13. I applied self adhesive wood grain vinyl wrap to the 402 horn. The curves of the horn make it very difficult to use the wood veneer I desired. I had thought about this for years, while reading the forum and being hypnotized into wanting K-402s. I do want to acknowledge that @richieb had recently posted about having his horns vinyl wrapped, weeks before I bought mine.
  14. Worked on the mid/tweeter mounting brackets today. Compensating for the size of the woofer dust caps, I am happy with these new voice coil alignment measurements.
  15. While the horn was removed, I made a new mounting bracket for the tweeter to physically align with the mid-range driver. Here are the measurements in inches from my ears to the tweeter bug screen (top number), squawker bug screen (middle number), and a woofer cone dust cap (bottom number).
  16. Four magnets on the removable picture frame attract to four bolts on the perimeter of the K-402 horn.
  17. I really liked when the Brazilian Rosewood Klipschorn grain patterns were in the main spotlight, but it is fun to have another new project with a great sounding pair of Klipsch speakers.
  18. Thanks. I also have other types hanging around so I don't appear to have a single brand bias, and to compare that good horns are neutral sounding.
  19. The Klipschorns are much better looking. The KPT 415, K-402 and K-510 combo is very natural sounding when I listen to recordings of acoustic instruments. When playing heavy beat music, these speakers remind me of the powerful sound in dance clubs with huge sound systems. Listening to movie soundtracks, they sound like a huge IMAX system. The KPTs will be my main stereo speakers now, but I still love the Klipschorns and will continue listening to them in other applications.
  20. More work needed on the room, but the KPT speakers are doing an excellent job with the tunes.
  21. Thanks. I applied Mahogany to these cabinets, because it matches the color theme of the room at this time. The Walnut I bought the other day is for a future project.
