  1. After reading what you have written I think I am going to be one of "those" that will disagree with you. Paul's principles have done well for this company and as long as I am still with klipsch, I will continue down that path. At least in the commercial side......
  2. Hmmmm. The forte III uses a. 3" voice coil, blah blah blah.....
  3. The mumps? Well, The consumer side and commercial side are different these days when it comes to horn design. As far as being voiced like the 396 , don't know. I think I vaguely remember what the klipsch sound is....
  4. Doc just bite the bullet and get some ki396s. If you don't like them I will take them off your hands. I will make you am offer you can't refuse.
  5. Mostly heritage and extended heritage although I like Gil's description.....neo heritage.
  6. I don't know these speakers at all. Do they have a horn in them? Just curious.
  7. Doc. The engineer working on this is Chris. And although Chris and I disagree on some things, he does a great job on the getting the speaker to be a reproducer.....if they let him. Lol!
  8. you should have already gotten it.....man!! and i'm the chief bonehead....
  9. ultimately, the speaker should reproduce the input signal as faithfully as possible; not produce. we are not tuning guitars and drums here. so tone or voicing or whatever should be to ref signals. at least that what paul thought....unless his lessons and objectives are obsolete......
  10. paul always encouraged me and wanted independent thought from me. he almost always answered my questions with questions. paul also used the saying "standing on the shoulders of giants". i have been inspired by paul and others but it is just kinda of a very personal thing when it comes to his speakers even though acoustics is just a small part of what i learned from paul. i wrote once that i have learned alot of things from paul.....some of it was speakers. lets just say that maybe someday, i will play with them.... when i feel that i have 'earned it'. i have some stuff cooking that is totally "paul w klipsch inspired". we will see.....and no i will not talk about it grasshopper.
  11. Grasshopper. I expect more from you as you have attended a few jubefest. Paul did not have an emotional attachment. I have an emotional attachment to paul. I understand what you are saying but right now, I just won't. I hope you find a mentor and friend like I did in paul and then maybe some day you will understand.
  12. Dude. I give up. You don't get it. Later.
  13. I listen at various levels and distances. I think you might like how the fortes handle this.
  14. it was before my time. when i got to klipsch, they were already using tweeters that were not k-77 for the heresy ii and cornwall ii. in the process of looking for more efficient tweeters over the years, we redesigned the phase plug and had designed a modified tractrix tweeter that were eventually used in the herseyiii and cornwall iii. and now the forte iii.
  15. driver and horn of the kpt-1260
  16. klipsch speakers.... rf7 commercial speakers 1" why are you asking these questions? already set to "upgrade"?
  17. one thing i learned from paul was that it shouldnt matter what you hook up to a speaker, whether its a cd or live band, it should reproduce the signal as faithfully as possible. so i didnt design horns, drivers, speakers thinking that it for commercial. and only until recently, they were not different paths for consumer or commercial.....soooooo from my perspective, the horns and drivers and the concept of tying them together are no different for me. whether for commercial or consumer, from an acoustic perspective, its the same. the horns are used in commercial products. the compression drivers are used in commercial products. the woofers are used in commercial products. how the network is designed is the same method i use for commercial products. in a sense you are right about commercial tech, because in the commercial world, almost everyone uses horns, compression drivers, etc. so we have to be very sensitive to that fact. if you ever have a chance, listen to ki-396 for instance and tell me what you think.
  18. just a few more tweaks....most everything else is set. yea mark can get a bit.....confused. they actually get down to 38 solid. gordo...lol! when i was younger my idol uncle would call be delgordo because i was a chunk when i was young!! they are not the delgados....paul would probably call them unofficially...the klipsch senior delgado.
  19. hi gil. how are you? you coming to the pilgrimage? adventure...hmmm. i designed a proto horn as a new project had been proposed; the heresy x. first generation tractrix horn. i always loved the sound of the forte so i wanted a similar voicing. i had the plant cut a motorboard that had a cutout for this proto horn. they built up this proto and i began to play. i wanted to study this horn and wanted data to discuss with paul. i finally did a crossover to see what coorealtion the sound had with data. i was listening one day and our national sales manager came in and decided to listen with me. i was doing an a/b listening session. he was surprised at the difference in sound. he asked me what horn that was and i just said a proto. about a week later he was back in the offce and he wanted to listen again. one thing lead to another and the sales manager said why dont we use this horn in the x project? i didnt want to. i explained that i still had to talk to paul about my findings and other tidbits to see what paul thought. paul was curious as to correlation and that started a years long path to get/learn the language to satisfy pauls curiosity but that is another (long) story. he agreed but i kept telling the sales guys that this horn was NOT ready. well it went into the heresy x project, later called the quartet. it was then decided that we should update the forte and chorus; another story. the reason we didnt do a tractrix tweeter was that i didnt have one designed, LOL! i hope that answers your question gil. if not ask me and i will try. with the forte iii, i saw the opportunity to update with as many tricks as i could...i am convinced that paul would approve.
  20. tell me, if you were mentored, taught, hanging out and were loved by a person that you would have considered a father figure in your life, would you insult him? its become obvious that you have not read or understand my relationship with paul......so once again i put this out there. paul's real heritage speakers are what paul built the company on. paul and i had many discussions on his speakers and every time i got the honor of working on them, i did so with the utmost respect. while he was alive, i always got his approval for things. tractrix was the toughest but thru the help of a mutual friend, he accepted it, which further widen my admiration for paul. think about it....at his age (late 80's), to still have an open mind to make changes and advance amazed me. but paul is not alive anymore.....and we never discussed updating his speakers from a horn perspective. the jub was the first one he wanted to do with a tractrix horn along with his mods to the horn. with the forte ii, i had started to play with tractrix, paul was there to advise and encourage me with his rebuttal questions. that is why the forte ii and quartet and chorus ii used my first generation tractrix. to get the chance to reintroduce and update the forte, and adding some of things i was taught and learned, yes i added all i could....because i know paul would wanted it that way and would have approved. but it is my intention of honoring paul is why i will not update his speakers. i will never say never....but right now, i would not do that to pauls speakers or his legacy. paul just means alot to me. and i would have to do alot of remembering and meditation to make sure that paul would want that. now do you understand?
  21. you have your opinion....i have data and my ears. i have different goals in deciding where to crossover drivers starting with my very early days of tractrix and talking to paul. going from a 600 hz horn to 700 hz doesnt guarantee a lower crossover point. so this argument of oh i miss the larger 600 hz is bogus, for my data and my ears tell me something different. but you know what...to each his own.
