    Pricing help

    Ok...that was funny.
  2. You know everyone wants to reply "Badges?! We don't need no stinking badges!" I know, I know. Old joke.
  3. Price reduced before it goes to eBay.
  4. Selling my black Academy. I was going to refinish it to match my refinished Chorus IIs but I just bought another oak Academy so this one is for sale. I bought it about 10 years ago from a forum member. Cabinet is in great shape. Speakers are all good. I noticed when I took off the grill for the pictures that it appears the previous owner re-glued the dust cap. I guess this is a common issue that is easily fixed. There is no buzzing from the speakers as the result of the dust cap repair. It has served me well for 10 years and sounds great. Selling it for the same price I paid for my oak version. SOLD $325 $300 Would like to sell locally as this is a heavy speaker. Chicago northwest suburbs.
  5. It would make the perfect Valentines Day gift. Ok....maybe not.
  6. bump. Price drop before it goes to eBay.
  7. Selling my RC3-II so I have room for the Academy I just bought. Excellent condition. No scratches or other blemishes. Prefer local pickup. Northwest Chicago Suburbs. SOLD
  8. If you listen to a CD or FM radio is the sound the same? If not then I would suspect the problem is in the COX receiver.
  9. I don't understand why the Better Business Bureau gives this company an F rating. They have a pretty web site.
  10. The interactive features will probably require profile 2.0 enabled players. Just an assumption.
  11. The PS3 certainly is a bargain for its ability to play Blu-Ray discs and has been promised to be upgraded to Profile 2 (BD Live) in the near future. Too bad it lacks multi-channel analog outputs (2.0 only). If your receiver is HDMI compatible and offers the newer surround formats (e.g. TrueHD) then this won't be a limitation.
  12. Brilliant marketing by CC. Not only do they make it appear they are appeasing customers that bought an HD-DVD player, but they also profit from the additonal cost of the new Blu-Ray player.
  13. Those considering a Blu-Ray player may want to consider waiting for the new BD-Live (Profile 2.0) players to arrive. The Panasonic BD50 and Sony Sapphire 3 and 4 players will support the interactive features.
  14. Unfortunately the BD1400 doesn't have 7.1 audio outputs so unless you have an HDMI capable receiver, you be able to decode the new high def audio formats. I'm waiting for the Panasonic BD50 with 7.1 audio outputs and BD-Live.
  15. If either camp doesn't get their act together soon, they will be trumped by on-demand services like Netflix. Now that some plans offer unlimited online viewing, this is the wave of the future.
  16. I've been using a media PC for a couple of years now and have all of my DVD's on the hard drive. I find I watch more movies and listen to more CD's than I did previously. It was actually the physical storage of the DVD's that pushed me to building the media PC. I use a variety of software to copy the DVD's but AnyDVD is probably used more often. I don't use RAID because of the volume of space I use (over 2TB) and although it would be time consuming if I lost a drive, I can always rebuild the drive from the original DVD's.
  17. I couldn't agree with you more. Even though I have a media PC with over 3TB's of storage for my CD's and DVD's, I would prefer to have content available to me as an on-demand type delivery. I'm not sure what I would be willing to pay for the service but the ability to watch or listen on-demand is certainly appealing. As long as the service is robust and provides a wide variety of content, I can't see why I would need to own the media (CD or DVD).
  18. I added a combo HD-DVD / Blu-Ray drive to my HTPC for $299.
  19. I have the 981 connected to a Sony XBR2. The calibrator found that the Oppo actually produced a more accurate picture with the player set for 480p and allowing the Sony to do the conversion. The color accuracy was better with this configuration than setting the Oppo at 1080p. I still use the Oppo for DVD-A and SACD so it wasn't a complete waste.
  20. Glad to hear Simply Stereo is still in business. They had a For Sale sign outside the Hoffman Estates store for some time and as they told me, they were looking to close whichever store sold first. I bought my Chorus II's and RS7's from them. They are very competitive with prices and a nice change from the big box stores. I'll have to stop by and have a listen. Thanks for the info!!
  21. Have you tested the TV at the proposed height? 24" might be a little high. The OEM stand for the 58" is 17" high. Of course it all depends on your seating height and distance.
  22. I couldn't be happier with my Denon 5803 but if (when) I had to do it all over again, I would probably go back to separates. With the way technology changes regarding surround formats and interconnectivity, I'd like to keep my amps and only replace the processor when I feel the need to upgrade. I use the 5803 for audio only so the newer HDMI and other video features don't appeal to me.
  23. Target just announced that they will only sell Blu-Ray players....("at least through the holiday season"). http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN2643741920070726
