  1. Thanks Cinema Head...he had sold one pair before I got to him so rather than breaking my pairs, I passed on the deal. Thanks for the info though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I recently purchased 2pairs of Heresy I's but now have the option to buy 2pairs of Heresy II's for almost the same price (but the speakers are in much better condition). I would then turn around and sell the original 2 pairs to cover the 2nd purchase. Does anybody have any opinions on the difference between the two generations? Do they sound similar or is there a marked difference in quality? What about demand...do fans usually prefer the older vintage because of the history? Thanks in advance. 8. Not sure if there's anything worthwhile here (I'm a newbie) but thought I'd pass it on. Adam http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ele/4785333176.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hi...found these on CL and was hoping to get some opinions. I'm new to this stuff and lucked into a set of Cornwalls and heresys for pretty cheap. I'd like to round out the 5.1 with a sub and center but don't have the funds to go big. Any ideas what these might be and whether they'd be worthwhile in the short term? I've sent a email to the owner asking for more details but haven't heard back yet. Thanks in advance. Adam Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks everyone! I struck out...the first seller had someone coming down from Seattle to look at them (he said he'd call me back if they didn't take them), and the 2nd guy returned my call and said he'd decided not to sell. I'll keep looking...
  11. Thanks for the input all. Mark, the room is 12x22 with hardwood floors. The CW's take up so much room in the front so I was hoping to find something smaller upfront, and then I could move the CW's to the rear surround. Incidentally, both listings are asking $500/pair respectively, and say the condition is 'very good'.
  12. I've found pairs of both of these speakers on CL and am planning on going and looking at them today. Any thoughts as to their relative merits? Preference for one model over the other? I'll be using them as a pair of surrounds in conjunction with a set of Cornwalls. Thanks! Adam
  13. Little confused here KF....I thought I was testing the tweeter as DJK suggested by touching both terminals (rather than lifting one as previously suggested). We are talking about the main terminals on the back side of the speaker box right? Not the terminals on the individual speaker? Should I open the cabinet and be testing each speaker directly?
  14. DJK...I tested them as you suggested in and it returned a reading of 3.8. I'll expose my ignorance but is this good or bad?
  15. The Cornwall I and Cornwall II are both good sounding speakers, so based on your current choices I would pick the one that is in excellent condition. Also, be aware that there is an early version of the C II and a later version of the C II. The early version is physically more similar to the Cornwall. The later version (1986-1990) has the flush surface mounted mid horn and tweeter horn and the crossover is attached to the rectangular speaker wire cup on the back of the speaker, which is easy to remove. If you plan to buy a larger style high end crossover for a later version C II, you will need to remove the woofer to install the bigger board and to snip and splice some wires, then re-install the woofer. https://2d73e25b29782b6d6766-9c8af5cbfef16739445bc76457060528.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/CW_Time_Line_MK_070522_635120773187750000.pdf Any listeners with lack of bass from Cornwalls may have a speaker wire polarity problem between the amp and speaker, or between the internal crossover and the woofer, or possibly a room acoustics condition. I like my Cornwall II's. Later version Cornwall II pictured below. Hi Khornukopia...I'm new to this hobby and just picked up my first set of '76 Cornwalls. Haven't done anything to them yet but I'm definitely not getting the bass response that I should be based on comments on this thread. I'm guessing its for one of the reasons you mentioned above or maybe my receiver just isn't powerful enough? I just bought a Denon AVR-X1100W which was about the most I could afford and I also wanted to get into the surround sound arena. Do you think I'm just under powered? I've checked the polarity amp-to-speakers but haven't looked at the crossovers yet (I am planning on replacing the caps from Crites shortly). Thanks in advance. Adam
  16. Will do...my TV's sitting on one of them right now but as soon as I can get it mounted, I'll spread them out.
  17. I'll definitely try this out. What about the woofers? There's definitely some low end distortion coming out of one of them...is there a similar test to see if it's blown?
  18. Thanks Steve! I was a little nervous when I bought them since I'm a neophyte, but I did a little research online (that's how I found this forum) and thought it a good price A couple of people have mentioned replacing the caps...do these typically go bad? Expensive to fix/replace? They get old. They don't necessarily go bad. They will still work. My point was that you would notice more of a difference replacing the capacitors than you would fixing the dust cap. They are not expensive to replace (although expensive is a relative term) if you do it yourself and replace only the caps and not the complete crossover - which is not necessary to do unless/until you become more involved in shaping the sound. Makes sense. I dropped Crites an email and he said pretty much the same thing. I'll probably just replace the caps for now and see what that does. One speaker, and it seems to be coming from the woofer (the one with the tear in the dust cap), definitely sounds 'fuzzier'. I'm hoping repairing the dust cap and caps takes care of this....thanks for the advice.
  19. Thanks Budman....I'll check this out as soon as I get home today. So, I'm guessing you knew this might happen based on your instructions...I can't tell if the tweeters are working! Even with tshirts in the midrange I'm not entirely sure if anything's coming out of them. However, the overall sound is good with plenty of highs...could those just be coming from the mids? Any advice/thoughts?
  20. You're gonna have to help a newbie out Schu....Kappa C's?
  21. Thanks Budman....I'll check this out as soon as I get home today.
