  1. thanx for the input guys//with my room I also lean towards -3 or -4db below "normal"..like you do Dee. Steve
  2. Like I need something else to tinker with! I've tried changing the squawker taps from the "correct" -6.2db setting (x-4) to the setting -10.4db (x-3) and everything in between..all have their merits..at the "correct" setting I get more detail, but at the other end of the scale I get more bass, as the squawker is "repressed" a bit. Sounds better at higher volumes IMHO. My room is still my most troublesome issue (I'm dealing with it, slowly but surely) but where do you guys have your squawker taps set? Thanx, Steve
  3. HT you oughta know we're NEVER done effiin' around! Ha!
  4. Greg that was kinda what I was thinking..I'm visualizing nothing in between the KHorns and the Belle..sounds logical that it'd be better anyway.. I might have to move the racks around.. Thanx Steve
  5. I've had my Khorns for 23 years now..I just now got them tucked into the REAL corners in my music room, after (A) having them out from the real corners due to obstacles and ( in half false corners to clear same obstacles. I cleared abovementioned obstacles by taking an electric hammer to the concrete footing on the left side, effectively removing about 18 inches of it so the left speaker tucked in, and also by modifying my heater register on the right side by cutting some of the sheet metal and removing some heat dispersing fins to allow the tailboard to tuck into the real corner. False corners are gone..maybe it's in my head, but I detect more bass..here's my question. The speakers are 21 feet apart. (I have a Belle to fill the center) I've always adhered to the rule of keeping 4 feet of both adjoining walls clear of anything..i.e.bare walls..would I gain anything by adding more? I have my CD racks on the front wall, starting at the 4 foot mark from the corner..but I COULD move them to the back wall, ensuring about 8 feet of bare front wall starting at each speaker corner..would I have a better sound? Soundstage? Just curious.. always tweaking.. Thanx Steve
  6. Thebes I just couldn't let it go.. JOHNNY Horton..
  7. I usually fire up the amps about 45 minutes before I head to the music room..the tube CD player and tube preamp are always in standby mode. Even with them warmed up, I think sometimes I hear a difference after music is played thru them for a half an hour or so. Maybe it's the voices in my head..who knows?
  8. Griff In my single days, I had the 2 channel going whenever I was at home..I had a second set of speakers in the bedroom, and went to sleep with music..now that I'm married (20 years) I don't get near enough listening in..my wife watches TV, not into music..I won't complain at all, she let me build a dedicated music room, and I can buy any gear I desire.so I count myself lucky..but I long for the days of tunes 24-7..ahhh
  9. I went for the 8-15 per week, although I wish it were more..I reside in the music room on weekend nights, usually between 9PM-2AM, two nights a week when on 4-8s and 3 times a week when on 4-10s (preferred) I remember the days when I had the 2 channel in the house, and it was music every night..no TV! but that's another story... Steve
  10. I'm with Carl..I wish I had swapped out my crossovers before trying so many different amp combos..I have Al K's crossovers for my KHorns..and I think the best part about them is being able to change the squawker level! The crossovers were the best investment I've made, although I do enjoy the all tube combo I have. I may have to buy Al's Trachorns next! (I realize this is about changing the tweeter/squawkers themselves, but the different attenuation levels on the squawker is like having a new horn!) Steve
  11. there's so many..there was "Junk Food Junkie" by Henry Gross, Charlie Daniel's "Ballad of Uneasy Rider" in the 70's..ILBT's by Joe Walsh..and I figured out what that stood for before I bought it in the early 80's! And just about any Frank Zappa song as discussed above..however, Bobby Brown, Catholic Girls, and Crew Sluts come directly to mind...
  12. I really love my Assemblage SET300B amplifiers..I have this one (which I have since swapped in Mullard GZ37 rectifiers) as my stereo amp, 8 watts a channel, feeding the KHorns, and another, wired for mono (16 watts a channel) feeding a center Belle. Although I have never heard the Wrights (and I'd certainly love to!), I am really satisfied with these amps. Steve
  13. no one PM'd me, so the Belle box is gone..had a couple of friends that needed a box to send out a cowling for a Cessna 172, and this was the only box that was big enough. At least it got recycled, even if it wasn't for another speaker..
  14. thanx Paul I certainly don't want to see it go into the landfill.. Steve
  15. I like Klattu..I couldn't believe it when I found an album I had reissued on CD! Yes, I remember when everyone thought it was the Beatles too! I never bought into that hype, but I did find their music interesting.
  16. that is, if you live in the right area! I just got my new Belle, and I hate to toss the original carton..what a waste..of course, there is only one. But I see requests for Belle shipping cartons now and then. Here's the deal..if you live in a city that Alaska Airlines serves, I can send this to you air freight for about 20 bucks. Just shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to send it your way. Of course, the freight is on you, but you can send me the 20 bucks and I'll prepay the carton on this end. Hope someone can use this.. Cheers, Steve
  17. thanx all! Can't wait til tomorrow night, when I have a few hours to really enjoy it! Yes, they are being discontinued..I saw a post here that said Klipsch had a handful left..so in October I asked the only Heritage dealer in Alaska if he could get me one, and he asked Klipsch..they replied yes, they could put one together, but it'd take 6 weeks..I figured it was worth it..it actually took about 8 weeks with shipping..but that was included so I didn't have to pay it from AR to AK..so I wasn't complaining..I had it shipped air freight from Anchorage to here, and I get a great discount working for the airline..so I'm pretty happy.
  18. I agree Edwin..I have had Khorns for years, used to have Heresys, but I have never set eyes on a real Belle before I opened the box tonight.what a beauty! Willy, I can see why you have all Belles ( except for the sub..I figured it was all Belles when you mentioned 5.1 Belles!) I will post a longer post this weekend, FWIW! I have swapped a lot of stuff in the last few months..
  19. oh, I try!! Thanx Willy! BTW nice set up you have!!
  20. well..that worked..at least here I see it..it's not quite to scale.. and yeah, blacklights, posters, lavav lamps..hey, mostly 70's music, so why not the decor..ha!
  21. actually, it'll just be a 3 channel..and yes, you're right! I've been listening to 2 channel with the Khorns 21 feet apart for 10 years in this room..what a difference now! There really was a hole there! Now I get to play this weekend, and set the center level just right! I'll try to get a room shot posted again..the forum didn't like the "stitched' shot!
  22. a shot stitching the room together..
  23. Brand new, from the factory! This will be my center channel in my three channel system. Wish they had the walnut finish, but they didn't..went oak..don't mind the difference really, and love the sound! Decided to go new, as I knew what I'd be getting..will post a longer message describring what I have gone thru in the last few months..
  24. I have two Assemblage SET300B amps..I have one wired for stereo, 8 WPC, and one wired for mono, 16Watts. The amps can be wired for 4, 8 or 16 ohms..Bear in mind thes aren't made anymore, but can be found on the used market. I love the sound of the 300B so much, I sold a brand new McIntosh MC275..and bought my second 300B, used. I've had the first 300B, since 1999 when I bought it new. Good luck on your venture! Steve
