  1. That would explain that rattling sound....
  2. Indeed it is a small world. I haven't installed the XP Pro that I have because of some issues with Half-Life support. I figure that will be cleared up soon, hopefully. Also, I dl'd the newest Win 98se drivers from Creative already, so I'll have to live with it til something changes, like either new drivers or I install XP. Thx for the reply....
  3. Your speakers should always be making sound..front and rear... the surround sound knob allows you to adjust the sound level to balance to amount of sound that you hear. Example: If your rear speakers are 5 feet behind you and you do a 4 speaker sound test and adjust the SURROUND so the volume is equal front to rear. Afterward if you decided to move your rear speakers back 3 more feet, then the surround would have to be re-adjusted to compensate for that change. Question ?...Is your sound kind of distorted when you have your fader (in Audigy Mixer) centered at the default setting? And does it reset itself to 2 speaker mode after your system has been shut down, then restarted? I have an Audigy too and run Win 98se and find that I have both issues that I'm asking you about. Hope this helps you and answer also if you can..thx
  4. Then they would NEVER sound good....it's most likely the drivers...distortion from something that is defective would be constant, not intermittant or variable.
  5. Good luck...I did a reformat and reinstalled the Audigy drivers and the newest version from their website....static is still there during games, ICQ startup foghorn, playing CD's etc, except in 2 speaker mode or when I move the fader around anywhere but center...Creative needs to clean up these drivers. 6. Creative has the Liveware 3.0 available at their website...however it's not in download form anymore...They want you to purchase it on CD now.
  7. I have the 4.1's (new at Christmas) run Win 98se and have an Audigy gamer, and my speakers are reset to 2 channel everytime I turn my system back on. In Control Panel>>>>>Multimedia I have Surround chosen as the speaker setup I use, but every time I start up again back to 2 channels in the Audigy Mixer it goes, but not in Multlmedia in Control Panel. Kinda weird.
  8. Alrighty then... what is the best all around soundcard... I have an Audigy (new 4.1's too) and am a gamer, mostly, but do have CD's and MP3's that I listen to as well. The Audigy is a little staticy at times and then not when listening to the same music passage, multiple times. (I suspect a driver issue is to blame). If I move the fader around in the Audigy software EQ, the statics stops completley, until I recenter or default it. Open to all...TheEAR especially. 9. The NIC card is closest, but wouldn't the interference be present regardless of the fader settings in Audigy HQ. If I move the little round cursor around in the fader/balance box the distortion stops, but when centered as it is when in the default setting the distortion returns. This is most prominant playing a CD, but also present in games or while using Windows Media Player. If I use the preloaded song samples in the Creative software the speakers perform flawlessly, regardless of the fader settings. I'm stumped.
  10. That doesn't look like Radio Shack wire or ends... Nice though.
  11. I too have an Audigy X-Gamer soundcard and have noticed the periodic static when balance/fade is set near DEFAULT. If I move it in any direction and the sound becomes perfect. I stripped all of the previous drivers (LiveWare 3.0) out before installing the Audigy and Audigy drivers. I have also since uninstalled/reinstalled (3 the Audigy drivers, and the problem remains. Didn't have the 4.1's with the old SBLive! so I can't do a comparison w/o swapping out the cards. I'm thinking that it may be a driver problem? but I'm not sure. I am running 98se on a PIII 800EB with an ASUS CUSL-2C mb w/o onboard sound. Any/all help would be appreciated.
  12. Yes....and before you hear all of the sales pitches for TerraTec, Phillips and Turtle Beach...go ahead and get the Audigy. It's a better all around soundcard than the rest. /me ducks. I own one and play games primarily with my PC, not music. That is what home stereos systems are made for. It rocks, although there will no dobt be a myriad of posts disputing what I just said. The SBLive! is a great card and the Audigy expands on that.
  13. Are you saying it CAN'T sound like Bose??? JK forgive me... I couldn't help myself.
  14. Sorry Big...I was counting the number of replies to the 40 posts. My mistake.
  15. Wouldn't those companies I mentioned have dumped Klipsch by now if they sucked as badly as you would have us all believe? I think so. Also there are 216 posts on this page. And if you notice only the NEGATIVE posts have the largest response/viewed numbers. The guys that post technical questions have the least viwer/responder traffic. Hmmm? I guess that solidifies my Bad News theory? And they have gone merrily on their way to being happy Klipsch owners, as are most, as I suggested. So a few have had trouble as compard to the many that haven't, and before you refute that, let me explain. Klipsch has sold millions of dollars worth of these 4.1's this year (2001) alone. Many of those units to people who owned the 4.0's or to the friends of theirs that heard the supposedly inferior 4.0 sound. Now if they have sold millions at wholesale to vendors, as well as MSRP to direct buying customers...then what does that tell you about the potential of the amount of Klipsch owners as a whole? The fact of the matter is this. There are grossly more good units than bad. It can't be reasonably viwed in any other way. Taken in those terms you can't support the "every other unit must be bad" posture that you have taken. The shear magnitude of the figures weighs heavily against your flimsy argument. And I seriously doubt that those millions of dollars worth of units out there are merely "ticking timebombs" waiting to explode. So do the math and then get back to us. Your serve.
  16. You're kidding? You say that there are display speakers out there they don't work? Wow! I suppose next you'll tell me that you saw floor model speakers at Circuit City with the voice coil dust cover domes poked in too?... Seriously though, you failed to address the issue I raised...What about the companies that choose to go with Klipsch at the risk of their own reputations? Why don't you drop a dime and see how many thousands of dissatisfied Falcon Northwest, Alienwear, or Compaq customers there are... I'll save you the time and expense because the answer simply is, THERE AREN'T ANY!!! And most reviewers, if they are good, don't accept specialized products to review, but only those that were produced for retail sale. I think most companies would always send some handmade, GOLDEN version of whatever it is they were submitting for testing, but that is simply not the case, most of the time. Also, I figure, the actual posts about dead speakers etc. amount to about 5% of the traffic here. Otherwise, I read about soundcard questions, or 1 speaker didn't work or whatever (generally operator error), til someone in the thread posts a fix to them and they go merrily on their way. So I would have to say that the real dopes in this story, are the people like yourself that keep showing up here, like a bad penny, to save the rest of the Klipsch wanting world from a fate (rare) that you have (nearly alone)suffered. Sorry guy, but that is just plain sad. I don't need self appointed saviours, thank you. If Klipsch had a "HAPPY AS SH*T WITH MY KLIPSCH 4.1's" board (and that isn't a bad idea) what conclusions would you be drawing then? Here's a thought...if you work for a living (?), I want to to think how many times your boss praises your good work, when in reality he most likely focuses on the 1 wrong thing you've done lately. That happens all of the time. Bad news travels the quickest, and carries the most interest, it's a matter of fact. Live with it. This message has been edited by gabriel11 on 12-21-2001 at 07:23 PM
  17. Another thing I have noticed begs to be explained. The fact that Klipsch speakers are offered as the primary speakers packaged with systems from Falcon Northwest, Alienware etc. I'm sure it's because these outstanding manufacturers are seeking a way to damage their otherwise pristine reputations by peddling crap speakers with their top of the line gaming systems. Yeah that's it...they want to screw over every sucker that calls to order a PC. Hey, what the heck? Repeat business is grossly over-rated huh? What brilliant business strategists everyone that is involved with Klipsch (including Klipsch themselves) are. Pure genius is more like it. Wow! How could I have been so blind? Please tell me it's happening because Klipsch nearly gives the speakers to these other firms for free, so they can get poor saps like me to order them since I've been duped into believing that they are worth buying and owning. Falcon Northwest, Alienware and all the others, the resellers, the independant testers writing reviews, the THX guys...why hell, they're all in this together...It's a huge conspiracy to screw customers. Hey maybe ABC will buy the rights and make a mini-series. Sorry if this seems a little farfetched, but it seems appropriate here, considering what other patent B.S. I've read.
  18. Justin... www.newegg.com claims that they are in the process of getting an Authorized reseller agreement with Klipsch...They (newegg) also sent me an e-mail stating that they would honor the 1 year warranty in the event that Klipsch gave me a problem, that's 1 year replacement and 30 day money back if not satisfied. Good enough for me. A person at Klipsch told me that if newegg was willing to give me more than the standard 30 days others give than I would be fine ordering from them. Based on that information I ordered from newegg, who incidently gets a 6.5 out of 7 rating at resellerratings.com according to 660 customer reviews to date. They shipped my 4.1's in 2 days from California to Michigan this week for free via Fedex. I think I'll be fine. This message has been edited by gabriel11 on 12-20-2001 at 07:59 PM
  19. Exactly Paragon...I've been reading these forums for about a year or so myself, and it still amazes me as to how many think this message board represents all of the Klipsch owners on Earth. There is a miniscule amount of Klipsch people with actual problems and if the boards are any indicator at all the 4.1's must be a really solid product. Anyone who reads here sees that alot of the MB traffic is by the same individuals posting on multiple topics, multiple times. BTW I recieved my 4.1's yesterday from www.newegg.com in excellent condition and I anticipate NO problems after I open and use them Christmas day.
  20. Well I would watch the spacing then...or if you do decide to spread them out abit...toe them in alittle.
