    That my friend, looks great!

I was actually excited when I saw it on! I only pretended to be avoiding the extra work. I am actually a workaholic.

If that wasn't enough to get the ol' mojo back, USPS found my lost package with the final pieces and parts!! Out for delivery.

Subs wont start until next week!!

I thought Carl's motorboard had been replaced but they made them that way I guess. The LSI one piece has a cutout on the back board to allow  clearance for the horn and driver and  the typical 3/4" motorboard. I think that is the better way.

that might be why they have the screw go all the way through the front of the 1/2" front panel with a washer and bolt on the back side of the horn. The 1/2" wasn't strong enough to just use wood screws from the back side. The inside clearance for the totally enclosed section is the only reason I could come up with. Just a guess, could be wrong.

For some reason earlier KHorns have fit up problems. I think since they were hand cut back then there was a jig used at times that was smaller than the normal K-77 cut outs by roughly a 1/16" which is enough to cause problems. I do make a reduced boss size for this and I am thinking that these are going to be what I send out for KHorns from around 76 and back from now on.

The depth of the tweeter boss is based on 3/4" plywood which is all I have run into except for a pair of two piece LSI's that Carl had. That pie shaped mid and tweeter bin used 1/2" plywood. You have just added to the questions I will need to ask for KHorns. Easy problem to machine around if I know there is a problem.

Regarding black. I have been asked about this before and I can advise on how to prep and paint these but not real eager to do them here.  Anodizing is another option but it means I have to double the number of offerings and hope they sell some day or do it one at a time which won't be cheap.

I have seen four pair of LSI splits and all had 1/2" ply for the front of the top hat. First I heard of that was when I made a new panel of a member and I thought he was crazy, turned out he was right. Good thing he stopped me before I cut the wrong thing. I think it has to do with closing in the back side and making sure the K400 plus the driver would fit.

Looks like we need to change our approach.  I may need to call him at work:ph34r:

Code has been here several times, but he was invited. The creepy: you have a call from "Carl........from the Forum"  on line one......still haunts me.

If I get a vote......................or if my vote counts........................or if my vote gets counted...................Long pause   LMAO

That looks sweet and I would vote for that, especially if you have guys in the shop to do it.   Very Nice.  That said, did you consider having the aluminum corners done the way they are on the original?  I know a guy.

I was trying not to overthink this. Now you (and Carl) are pushing me to work harder than I had planned. He did the same thing when I mentioned doing a simple ported sub. Having the guys in the shop do it puts me over budget with having to buy beer.

Probably will look great regardless, and will depend on what you think and how much more time, effort and MOJO, you want to put into it.

Your welding skills are amazing compared to mine.  Mine are limited to, "I know a few people that are great welders and they do my welding"

I have a dozen guys out back that I would have do this for me before I would do it myself. I am not awful but they are very good.

I think it looks great!  Can you weld up a scrap piece to compare the look to what you already have?  You should have just made 2 of these and then just used the original for a center.  LOL

Ok, did weld up a couple pieces of scrap. I buffed the weld off one edge to compare. I can leave the weld or buff all joints smooth. OR just leave the mitered joint. Please no comments on the weld skills exhibited.

It has wheels on two sides already, so it isn't impossible to move.  Maybe I could put treads and motors on the next one so it can be driven around, now there's a thought.  A remote-controlled THTLP.  Or maybe just attach a big dolly handle and wheels.

I've dropped one end of it from 3' up already when it fell off of a sawhorse.  Didn't seem to hurt it, lol.

Which subs are you making?  (sorry to hijack this thread, you can PM me if you want)

Your design and wheel were handy when I moved them around my shop! When I got them on the flatbed, they were awkward to move and lay down (stood up in transit) ond the limited area on the bed.

I'm building two 15" subs using pro driver (Eminence LAB15) in a small ported enclosure. (just under 4 ft3) I already had a Crown amp with DSP that I can do a bandpass x-over and pump 600 watts to each. May or may not do the trick. We will see.

That's what I've been telling him too.

I am starting a sub project very soon. When done, we can set up and compare your THTLP to the ones I do. As much as I enjoyed your speaker (which I plan to give back some day) I wanted something a little easier to move around. I ain't getting any younger and this is for my "mobile" set up. I'm doing two much smaller than the THTLP but together should hold their own.  If your's blows these away, I will have to build one and buy a back brace. I almost dropped yours off the flat bed a couple of times. I wasn't going to tell you, but.....

That's funny!  I've built things and then thought......................where the hell am I going to put this.  LOL

I put the first one to use as a makeshift center in my basement. I put this ensemble together a little while back, again cuz I was bored and had all the parts and pieces.

It was more fun putting it together than it is using it. I rarely sit still long enough to watch a movie and hardly ever watch any TV. I have watched a few concerts on dvd that were fun, but only a couple times during our negative degree days a few weeks ago.

You didn't lose it, it's just old age and not remembering where you set it down.  LOL

So where is this pair going to live when you're done?

It is definitely an age thing. I have always lost my mojo from time to time, but it would always find it's way back. Now I have to go look for it.

Did you miss the part where I said that I only started this one cuz a was bored and looking for a project? I must of had some idea what to do with them when I started, but don't recall.

They look great, always loved the industrial look.

You could always put a little tac and remove to weld ? Either way they look great.

Definitely tac weld while on to make sure they true up. Not that my cabinets and bevel cuts aren't perfectly square, just cuz that's the way I want to do it. 🤥

Didn't make it out to the shop today, stuck in meetings. I will crank out a sample tomorrow and decide. Once my parts went AWOL, I lost my mojo.

Yes, I'd do butt joints for everything.

EDIT, I thought the corners were cast as opposed to welded on the factory ones but I could be wrong.

    they are

I could buff these down smooth to look very similar or leave the raised weld (or not weld at all)

I have speaker parts lost in the mail currently so no fast track needed. USPS doesn't consider it lost until not scanned for 90 days!!!! great system.

Depending on if you weld every seam, it would be impossible to take it apart in the future wouldn't it?

Looks awesome as is.  Recess some screws and move on.

I would only weld the miters, so the front section and the back section. The middle sections would just be but joints not welded. The angle is 1" so the back angle has to come off to get the back of the speaker off.

I have recessed the screw holes already just waiting on my decision on the weld. I'll post the test piece tonight.

I was only going to build one, then decided on two, now you want three???

It is a fun hobby but is self perpetuating.

I am moving on to a different project after this one, so two will have to do.

I do have scrap that I plan to weld up a corner to see. Went to do it yesterday but no TIG welders were hook up, only MIG. Should be able to get to it today. The TIG weld would be cleaner.
