Yea Doc, let's see the tags to see if the are RB and then lacquered. At 1900, you can move into a pair of Khorns

    Mark

    Or possibly some Belles!

  2. * Face Palm * - Recently someone exposed Stereophile for these types of reviews for having been as much BRIBED by the manufacturer through advertising. Such hyperbole is ridiculous and most of the time fluff and.... FALSE.

Pictures of systems with speaker cables thicker than my forearm always give me a chuckle.

  3. When I got my first Klipsch (Heresy), my wife was blown away. She loved them as much as I did which went a long way for her tolerance of my hobby and it helped sell her on the fact that we needed La Scalas! LOL

Having your wife on board is a major win. She was in 100% in when we decided to restore the Heresies. Great project that we did together.

  4. Do yourself a favor and watch Jeff Beck's Rock n' Roll Party. His playing is phenomenal and diverse as he plays tribute to Les Paul (and others). You won't be disappointed.

Also - If you skim through his catalog, the diversity of his style and playing will simply blow your mind. If you are a musician, perhaps you will appreciate him even more. FYI - He does not use a plectrum. That is to say, a guitar pick. Impressive in itself.

I could go on and on about him but if you are exposed to small sample of his playing, you might not "get it".

  5. Marietta. If you watch the market, you may know this gentlemen. He buys and sells quite a bit. His name is Corey. He has a pair of very nice Chorus right now along with some other gear.

I happened to be going to Atlanta for dinner and a show and checked CL on a whim. Worked out pretty good!

I'd make sure the internals are all intact and functioning. If he was driving them with that MacroTech, they were exposed to far more than 100 watts.

I'm down near Montgomery. If you pick them up and need some tips on re-veneering, let me know. Did some Heresies not long ago and own a pair of La Scalas as well.

Patch, and finish, Duratex or veneer in some cool exotic wood is what these have needed since they were made. They are still litarally raw birch but now with 30 years of grime soaked into the wood. I wonder if there is a way to clean that soaked in crud from the wood without using water.

Did anybody notice the little baggy on the back of one of them that looked like it had screws in it.

As Matt says, diamonds in the rough. $800 isn't gonna hurt ya. How often do these come up for sale where you live?

Don't see them very often here in Alabama. Here in Montgomery, it's extremely slim pickings for any vintage gear. Birmingham and North, it gets better.

So I just spent 2 hours of my employer's time reading MOST of the 35 pages in this thread! LOL

The next time you want to read a long thread from beginning to end, go to the lower left side of the page and get to CHANGE THEMES.

Choose Ip.Board Mobile.  It makes those 600 posts threads much easier to read fast.

Then the next time you will only waste an hour of your employer's time instead of two hours.  B)

Thanks for the tip. Being that it's Monday, my guilt for this act is minimal. LoLz

  9. Shown in the photo is the "left" speaker. It's in pretty darn good shape for it's age (U). The "right" has a couple chips in the veneer but again... I'm very happy. I need to buff out the lacquer and do a little touch up. Picked them up North of Atlanta a couple weeks ago.
