  1. A wonderful Monster Alpha MC Cartridge one to be exact. A very nice vintage cartridge IHMO. That one, along with a Koetsu Black, Dynavector Ruby KARAT 23R and a Denon 103D are cartridges I will be trying out this week. Thanks to inmate Jazman and a local co-woker and friend who have borrowed these cartridges to me to try out. I must say, the Monster was wonderful with a lack of grain, smoothness, and purity of tone that I have not heard with the Virtuoso wood MM cartridge. Anyone heard any of these cartridges before and can provide some insite on them? No Disc
  2. I never understood your mp3 obsession max... ---------------- On 6/27/2005 7:34:27 AM maxg wrote: With you all the way there AF - not bought a CD in......in.....about 2 years I reckon. 3. What power cord(s) are you using for the transport and DAC? Are they shielded? No Disc
  4. Have you done anything in the tweaks area to get the most out of your digital front end? Vibrational damping of your player and a decent shielded power cord? No Disc
  5. The question you should be asking yourself is are you really happy with your digital front end? If you can't stand to listen to your digital now that your analog rig is singing, I guess you got some decisions to make. After my VPI Scout got singing I found my digital lacking. I could not listen to my digital anymore. The magic was gone. I had to decide to either improve the digital so it was listenable, or just ditch digital all togeher. I picked the former. There is life for digital after you have been bitten hard by analog, at least there was for me. Good luck. No Disc
  6. Kev, I'd love to hear your setup sometime. I've never heard Abbys before. You must like them to give up the Corns. I almost gave up my Corns once, but I decided to hang on to them and tweak them. I'm glad I did. No Disc Elgin
  7. Kev, Have you checked your polarity on your Wrights? I didn't realize there was another member in Chicago. No Disc
  8. Chris, Just when I think I'm done and happy with the sound, I find myself learning more about audio and tweaking some more. I wish I could stop myself, however, I have not had any regrets. There are other improvements beyond what you mentioned as well. The sound, in fact, is much better than you were here. For me the measuring stick is how long I sit in front of it listnening to a particular album or CD. If I find myself listening to a whole album or CD, rather than just a track or two, I know I'm going in the correct direction. Get your butt back to Chicago and have a listen. How's the move going? 10. Um, well I'm sure there are more comfortable chairs, but I still have problems "drifting-off" in that chair so I guess it's comfortable enough. At least they are in separate areas.
  11. Is this SACD or CD? Is this a new release? No Disc
  12. It's not annoying, it's disturbing when you imagine C & S in them. I wish I could close my minds eye.

  15. For me, a better power cable for the SACD player does indeed make a big difference in my setup. I've also found that the power cables I've purchasd do sound better after 100-200 hours of use. I don't know why. I'll pass the buck for someone else to explain why. No Disc
  16. Congrats! I'm going to be old and gray by the time that happens to me.... Wait a minute, I am old and gray.... :-( No Disc
  17. Wow. I just got done with my first extended listening session. This unit trounces my old one, no doubt. Simply the best digital I've heard. I'm going to have to get a better cartridge for my analog rig now cause this player is sounding better than it. Will this madness never end... No Disc
  18. Some of you may recall that in April, my Audiomod modified Sony SACD player was stolen along with others items in my home. Insurance money finally came a few weeks ago and I finally found a replacement player. This one, modifed by the previous owner has a tube output stage and outboard power supply. It has all that my previous unit had sonically plus some extra warmth due to the tube output stage. The mod is no longer offered, so I'm lucky to have scored this unit. Happy days are here again... A little about this mod here...
  19. LOL Max. I would of thought you would of learned your lesson from the last item he lent you? If I recall you were calling him a bunch of names for "lending" it to you. I highly reccomend the VH Audio line of power cables. Thats the great cable for the money. I use the Flavor 4 cable for my SACD player. Ole George Wright does not believe in removable cables for his products so I have no choice on my amps and preamps. No Disc ---------------- On 5/28/2005 12:09:26 PM maxg wrote: And its PURPLE!!! I am not joking - but I haven't bought it (I may be insane - but not that loony). Lent to me by Antonis at Stepcom (the local bastard that keeps doing this kind of thing). Actually he has given me a $100 cable as well to compare to. I was in his shop and we were chatting when he asked me what power cables I use. I told him they are all built in except for the phono stage which is using a $3 computer cable. He hit the roof - hence the cables are now at my house. So is there a difference. After a quick test of all 3 - no idea. We are not talking smack you upside the head difference whatever these things do - so the $1000 is going back. The $100 I am not so sure about - I will have a play and see. For reference the purple cable is from Nordost and is made in the US. That is all I know - no other clues on the cable - purple though - what were they thinking? ----------------
  20. One of my stolen items, a DVD player, turned up at a local pawn shop. I purchased it and matched the serial and it was mine. I notified the detective working the case. As it turns out, the guy who sold the player to the pawn shop also sold my neighbor stolen goods at another pawn shop. The guy was picked up on unrelated charges 9 days ago. He's denying everything, other than being in possession of stolen goods. Turns out he's a heroin addict and selling the stolen goods to support his habit. I got my money back today from the pawn shop owner. Teh police will be trying to match finger prints taken from my place to pin the guy at the scene of the crime. No Disc - Tim Lesson from this. Always leave your heroin out in the open so they will leave your audio gear alone.

  23. Wireless video surveillance is already being planned. :-) Tim ---------------- On 4/30/2005 10:34:10 PM jwcullison wrote: Good thread. Sorry to hear of those who were taken advantage of. My neighborhood is very nice. In the last month, a guy in an Altima with his kid in the car has broke in to two of the houses in the neighborhood. Both home owners stated they didn't have their alarm on. Consider video surveilance. You may not realize how easy it is. If you have cable run throughout your house, you could put up cameras that would hook to you computer. Man, I would love to bust folks who take from others. jc ----------------
  24. I lived 10 years in a townhome and was never robbed. We are going on about 1 1/4 years here at the new seclude single family home. Go figure. According to neighbor accross the street and previous owners, the area I am has been crime (break-in) free for over 20 years. Doger has been a wealth of information about crime prevention. Next time, if there is one, they won't have such an easy ******-n-grab. Tim No Disc - Sob.
