  1. Very nice! Time to change your sig line I would say! G2
  2. May I live to be a thousand and never want for one of those! HAH what a beast!!! I use to have separates for my Stereo system, Adcom Power amp and a Sansui integrated amp used as a preamp and a Sansui Tuner, those are now long gone replaced by a Sony DA5ES receiver, Home Theater can be such a dismal proposition at times, soooo many choices! From the Power source, what you can afford, to speaker choices, those that thrill and excite us! And of course the software medium of DVD or CD or SACDs, lately I've discovered that the Source of the music/movie can GREATLY change our prespective on how our systems sound, one poorly made sound track can sour us on how our systems sounds and puts us into the mode of looking to upgrade SOMETHING to make it better, but put in a very well made soundtrack and WOW it really opens up and you sit back, rest and drink your favourite beverage and smile and wish it could last forever! Sorry for the melodious waxing on here but after seeing those HUGE amps I needed to vent a little... TE, you certainly have the life sir! Hats off to you! Thanks for sharing! off to count my pennies... G2
  3. Oh, in regards to the RS3s, they should work really well, I wish I had them! maybe I'll upgrade to them as well! Right now I have a set of SB1s that work pretty good as I'd never get the wife approval for hanging speakers on the walls yet. For surround I'm sure those RS3s are a great sounding speaker. Interested in knowing if anyone on the board here had made the change from a book shelf speaker to one of the Surround speakers and what they're thoughts on the differences? G2
  4. I doubt the receiver will even be breathing hard, those RF7s are so efficient that they hardly take anything to produce volumnes of sound. I recently purchased a Sony DA5ES receiver and that made a nice difference in the sound quality of the overall HT performance, nice combination and right now they can be had for a VERY good price, some have stated they picked it up for 750 plus shipping, not bad considering it was selling for around 1200, msrp was 1500...quite a bargain. Good luck on those and not to worry, you'll just be drenched in quality sound!!! G2
  5. Footprint wise they don't take up a lot more space, just a tad wider and taller than the RF3s, which I had for about a year and traded up to the RF7s, no regrets! and the RC7 is an awesome center channel, if you have the go ahead from the wife...all important part!, then by all means upgrade! G2

That's all that matters to me. Like I said, I'm not in the habit of taking my equipment apart, and don't really have anything else to compare to, but I like the sound, was worth every penny and them some, and that's all that matters to me. Well I wish I had gotten mine at that price, but it wasn't to be, paid $1,800 for mine so it's a bit of a pinch I guess but for my dollar they sound and look great and nothing seems out of place to me at all, if the speakers in question were damaged in shipment that's a whole different ball game as opposed to those that weren't. I'm not one to open things up either, had a set of DBX Soundfield 100 speakers that the wire terminals would spin, so I had to open it up and tighten down the connection posts on the cross over board, but thats about it. Those were some good speakers for music but didn't cut it well for HT. I'm going to pop in a DVD, sit back and be blown away for a bit... I don't want to get into listening to more speakers for a LONG time, it took a while to commit to these as it was! Now I need a rear center channel speaker... G2
  7. Well this post certainly has me giddy, head swimming in regret no doubt, but mine do sound great, as well as the RC7 center, what concerns me is...how long will they remain sounding this good before they start to fall apart? With sound beating against the walls 4 to 5 hours a day, that has to take a toll on the structure, and if there is any truth to that first post, yep I'm concerned, this is the MOST money I've EVER spent on speakers in my short 48 years of life and don't expect to upgrade any time soon, funding wise will keep that to a minimum anyways. I sold a considerable amount of my knife collection to feed this home theater virus that I contracted since getting my dvd player, I do miss the knives! So what is the warranty on the RF7s? checked and confirmed that it is 5 years, so hopefully they will hold together for that long? If they structurally start to come apart, what recourse does one have? Sleepless in PA, G2 This message has been edited by Gary W. Graley on 04-23-2002 at 09:26 PM
  8. Got mine today, not too long a wait, about a month or so, nice to get free stuff and yep the videos were pretty nice, Travis reached down low and the bass sounded great, all in all it seemed like a VERY good FREE demo disk, watched some of the commercials and don't know if I'll be getting a 400 disk carrier! Thanks for that link! G2
  9. Glad as well I'm not the only one, didn't think to try the headphone trick but will next time I hear the distortion. I have the RC7 and it is a VERY good center channel, got the Hunchback of Notre Dame one and two the other day for my daughter and the bad guys deep voice came through so nice an smooth, brought a smile to my face! G2
  10. The Sony STR-DA5ES has a nice sound to it with the RF7s, I had the Sony 840 and just upgraded to the 5ES this weekend and the sound is a lot nicer with this receiver, warmer, smoother and more range, at first I thought I was missing something but then realized that the other receiver, while good, was very bright with these speakers, right now Sony has dropped the price on this top receiver, onecall.com has been giving great deals on this, some have picked it up for around $849 shipped FedEx...not bad on a receiver that had a msrp of $1,500... It has about every imaginable inputs outputs you're likely to want, as well as 110 watts by 6 channels. Hard to beat and sounds well! G2
  11. That don't look half bad! I bet it sounds great, I recently upgraded as well, went with the speakers this go around, maybe next year I'll do the tv but since our 27" is still working fine and it JUST fits into our cabinet I'm stuck with it! So I'd recommend go the tv route as you aren't limited by the size to fit your setup, those speakers sound good I'm sure! My .02...good hunting! G2 ps you may want to try the sub in the other corner to make use of the side wall...worth a shot! This message has been edited by Gary W. Graley on 03-19-2002 at 12:41 AM

  13. TE, nope nothing else is near the tv at all, so it is strange for sure, the foil didn't seem to make any difference but it may be a permanent problem or it will take a while to clear up? It isn't BIG but it is annoying to see, as the rest of the tv plays great. You can only see it when a white area is being put on the screen. The speaker is pretty darn heavy, I've removed the speaker just now to see if it went away and nope, still there, so maybe its a problem with the tv itself? My RF7s are about 2' away from the side of the tv, my receiver, Sony 840 is to the side of the Center channel... This may have been a long standing problem as when I play DVDs the black bars are along the top and that isn't visible then, regular tv programming or some Disney full screen features made me notice it with in the past few days, but I am pretty picky about such things and surely would have noticed it before so I worry that the RC7 has induced some trouble, the speakers in that must have nice big magnets on them, what does Klipsch use for sheilding? Could mine have missed that step in the assembly process? RC7BK 01440277 is the serial number on this unit and it was made very recently I am told... G2 This message has been edited by Gary W. 14. I have the RC7 for almost a week and noticed on the top right corner of my Sony 27" tv some pull or dark mark in the corner, I put some aluminum foil beneath the speaker to help if that is what is causing the problem, the speaker rests on top of a wood shelf and that is about 3" above the tv as well as being about 3/4" thick...I wouldn't have expected that to do that, has anyone else noticed a problem with this center? Later on when I upgrade to a larger tv, I'll have to rest the RC7 directly on top of the tv and worry that it may really pull more, if indeed the speaker is causing this on the tv...there is nothing else near the tv that could cause this, before I had the RC3 and before that, no center at all...My RF7s are to the side a few feet away... Thanks, G2 This message has been edited by Gary W. Graley on 03-17-2002 at 01:49 PM
  15. TE, curious as to what movie you would first watch on this great system...? G2
  16. I had the RF3s and a KSW12 which does very very well, for Home Theater, musically did ok, which is why I'm upgrading to a Velodyne SPL1200, that should arrive this week so I can report first hand how the difference is then. SVS, if I wasn't married...I'd probably would have gone that route, but man they are an imposing looking speaker and with the RF7s already taking up the skyline in my living room, 21 x 15, I would never get wife approval of that one, the Velodyne is reported to be a strong solid performer and great musically as well as home theater so I opted for that one...after that purchase I'm taking a break!!! Good luck on your move, the KSW 12 is a solid subwoofer and you can get one of those for under 300 I believe if you search long enough... I initially went with the KSW12 to keep with the Klipsch lineup and opted on the 12 as a happy medium for both music and home theater, as the 15 I thought would be very good on HT but lousy on music...not responsive or quick enough, but I was theorizing on that score. G2
  17. I had the RF3s before they became the RF3II, they are a great speaker and did me well for the year I had them, but musically not as well, but probably still very good, I just have a bad case of Upgraditis and moved up to the RF7s in Cherry, and this past weekend received my RC7 center in Black and that works great, vocals are very real sounding and smooth, worth the dollars, I had the RC3 and traded in, actually as I was trading it in another fellow was in the store and they just packed up my speaker and sold it to him, he was taking some RF7s home that day and wanted a new Center channel...went pretty quick! I imagine he will move up to the RC7, now the RC7 is a bit of a beast! I could see someone buying 6 of these for their entire system, nice speaker! Good luck on your decision, but I'm with TE in regards to the Center, Get the RC7... G2
  18. Thanks Wes, I'm looking at the Sony STR-DA5ES receiver, as the store that I bought the 840 would be the place I would trade it back in, if I did go with another receiver... Not sure how long they have been around, the reviews are scant and the Sony site is sparse! But the ES series is suppposed to be a good one... G2
  19. I combined them both, into one cable, got the idea when I saw the cable for sale on OneCall, the Type 4 with two leads out, so I tied a 20 and a 17 together to make about a 14ga lead, listening more last night to some music that I am familiar with and have to say the the highs do sound more open, a lot larger soundstage seems apparent, I know some will say I was looking for SOMETHING to happen and I was and did find a difference, which is a good thing! I'd recommend trying it. My one thought today is a different receiver, right now I've a Sony 840 which does a good job but wonder if another would be a warmer sounding receiver in about the same price range or a little higher, my discretionary funds are about shot, as I also have a Velodyne SPL1200 enroute to replace my KSW12, but have just a little left to maybe upgrade my receiver...but there isn't a solid reason to switch that I see right now, as most of the ones I've looked up tout about video switching and right now I'm not concerned about those features... G2
  20. UPDATE... Well just got back from town after thinking more on this subject and made the following changes for the better I think; Put the Monster 12ga back on the mains and center, but kept it biwired and put both runs of the AudioQuest on the High Freq side of the Biwire and used the Monster 12ga on the Low side....and....it really does sound more open, I'm a believer now for the openness of the sound, clear and open, worth the trouble... Wes, my connector looks much like yours now on the Receiver... G2 G2
  21. Well guys, I bought some AudioQuest Type4 cable today and Bi-Wired the setup, while I was finishing the wiring I was LISTENING to a CD to try and memorize HOW it sounded on the BEFORE leg of this journey, the AFTER didn't seem much different, now I have much hesitation when picking up this cable, the wire is SMALL size, but SOLID copper, two smaller leads for the High Freq side and slightly larger leads for the Low Freq side...talking 20ga and 17ga, compared to the 12ga I took off, but I'm going to run (no pun intended) with this for a while and give it a chance... I also installed my RC7 today, very nice, voices are much fuller than the RC3... Thanks for your help guys, G2
  22. Thanks guys and Wes, nice image, that will be handy, I'll work on that this weekend and report back as to how much a difference it makes.... G2
  23. Sounds easy but when I look at the wiring on the back of my receiver, Sony 840, and the 12gauge wire already plugged in, how in the world does one put TWO wires onto each terminal, for the mains and center for right now....? I have the RF7s and will be getting the RC7 next week, with Banana plugs from RadioShack plugged into the terminals... Would someone PLEASE post a pic of how they manage large wires onto the posts on the back of the receiver... I am guessing that I would double up on the wires going into the banana plug, it's the type that you insert the wire and it compresses the wire inside, two pieces screwed together type of thing...I want to give this a go, right now need to pick up some more wire but hoping that one of you that have made this wiring scheme would give some connection pointers. The speaker end is dead easy, the receiver side sounds messy... Thanks, G2 This message has been edited by Gary W. Graley on 03-07-2002 at 08:58 PM
  24. What a relief eh? I had the RF3s for almost a year and have just upgraded to the RF7s and WOW, big difference and of course bigger speakers but they are sweet to the ears and carry some nice bass!! Glad to see you got it worked out! G2
