  1. Just got the DVD Audio of Tubular Bells. It's outstanding. With it's very aggresive surround mix, it is my new standard for demo of my systems.
  2. Does anyone remember this stuff? While rooting through old storage boxes, I found a full bottle of "Tweek" Contact Enhancer that I purchased about 1980 or so. By today's standards, is this stuff snake oil? Or, does it truly work as stated? Any idea about how the elapsed time of almost 25 years may affect its chemical properties?
  3. Thanks for the Parts Department tip. I will call tomorrow.
  4. Can anyone help with locating an original Forte "klipsch" black letters on copper color base 3" X 1/2" logo? I would like to have my Academy logo (raised copper color letters on black plastic 1 5/8" X 1/4") match with the Fortes' logo. Thanks, GHT
  5. I have the RB-3 speakers biwired from my Acurus A150 in the stereo setup. For HT, my RB-5 and RC-3 speakers are biwired to the Yamaha RX-V1200. My opinion? I like it. In both systems my sound is clean, crisp, detailed and open. I am now using Canare StarQuad 4S11 wire for these speakers. I do not know what you mean by "A and B". I run the Canare speaker wires doubled (R+R and W+W)into banana connectors to the amps' main L and R channel outputs and then split into 4 spades at the individual speaker terminals.
  6. There is nothing wrong with Rush in Rio, it was a loud live concert not a studio recording. Same way with Iron Maiden in Rio. Very big crowds of energized people who know and sing all the songs during the concerts. AC/DC Live at Donington is a somewhat similar large crowd concert DVD experience. U2 at Slane Castle is very good, as well as, Peter Gabriel Growing Up Live, Roger Waters, Dave Gilmour, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty at the Olympic, SRV at el Mocambo. All of these have been regulars in the CX1 player. The visual effect of Peter Gabriel's DVD is very powerful projected on a large screen surface (besides having great sound).
  7. I have RCR-3 for rear surrounds and a single RCR-5 for a rear center in my 6.1 HT. The room is large with 10' ceilings and the Klipsch ceiling speakers are outstanding for movies and DVD Audio materials. My system does utilize a SVS 22-31 subwoofer, so I really do not rely on the fullrange of the ceiling speakers (and mains and center). I would not hesitate to try a full ceiling Klipsch system with RCR-5 all around. The Klipsch speakers can also be "aimed".
  8. I use a little angled rubber door stop under the rear of my Academy. Makes any angle adjustment a snap, doesn't leave marks on the speaker or the shelving. Cost $0.75 at Lowe's.
  9. Hello, I have the RCR-3 as left & right rears and a single RCR-5 as a rear center. Mains are RB-5, with RC-3 center and SVS 22-31 sub. These are all spread about in a large family room that opens into a kitchen and other living areas. Seems like not much speaker for so large an area (10 foot ceilings too). All output channels are balanced with the analog RS sound meter. I have to tell you that the sound produced is pure, seamless and all enveloping for DVD/DVD-Audio formats and MNF HD broadcasts through my Yamaha RX-V1200. I would install the Klipsch RCR ceiling speakers again without a doubt.
  10. Acoustic Guitars are either laminated wood construction- cheap to produce or solid wood- expensive to buy. (Ovation with the plasic bodies is an exception.) One company (possibly others too) makes laminate bodied guitars with solid wood tops. This company is Seagull, from Canada. Their guitars are plain looking but great playing and full sounding with low pricing as well. We have owned a Seagull SM6 for over 8 years now and it still plays well. My son took it to Europe and 4 years of college so it's been exposed to a lot of environments without undue affect. We also own a solid wood Taylor 712 that plays beautifully, but at a higher purchase cost. Look for what feels good and sounds good to you. Close your eyes so you are not swayed by fancy looking woods or glossy finishes. Check Harmony Central for owner reviews of many guitar brands and models.
  11. Local RS temporarily out of the analog model. On (national) sale for $24.99 until 7/31/2003.
  12. Ovation in Indianapolis had the same Klipsch deal in June at their stores.
  13. I have a scratch free black KV-3. Replaced it with an Academy. I can send photos, etc. email at hz536n@yahoo.com

    RC-3

I had a KV-3 as a center in my main room HT. It was paired with RB-5 mains and SVS sub. It worked very well. In January I got an open box RC-3 for <$150.00 and It is a much nicer HT experience over the KV-3. I would not go back to the KV-3 vs the RC-3 with the RB-5 mains. I think you will potentially see even more difference compared to the KV-2. I then put the KV-3 back into use as a center with the Fortes in the second room and it was fine... Until I found an Academy ($250.00 shipped) in February. The Academy is a dramatic upgrade over the KV-3 with Fortes. I will not give up this outstanding center speaker. The KV-3 is great in and of itself, I'm not knocking it by any means. It's just that with my other Klipsch main speakers I have found better sonic "fit" with the RC-3 and Academy. If anyone may be seeking a nice KV-3 (black), I have one that is not currently in use. Email me at "hz536n@yahoo.com".
  15. Looking for one RCR-3, or RCR-5, to use as a Rear Center for my Yamaha and Klipsch based HT. I know that Klipsch Dealers sell these ceiling mount speakers in pairs as I already have the RCR-3 in use as my left and right rear speakers, but does anyone have (or have knowledge of) a single unit they can part with? Currently I have the Yamaha RX-V1200 driving Klipsch RB-5 mains, RC-3 center and RCR-3 rears with an SVS 22-31 CS sub. My email is hz536n@yahoo.com for any offline replies. Thanks
  16. OK, the plot thickens... First off thanks for the replies thus far. Swapped right for left and the sound stayed at the right channel. In the process of checking this I put my ear close to the now left speaker's woofer and it was still distorting. Now I'm really wondering, so I reswap the speakers and closely listen to the normal left speaker woofer and I can clearly hear the same crackling sound as from the right speaker. Prior to this I had not "heard" the distortion from the left speaker, I believe it was there but I was paying more attention to the right channel. Running a trial in mono may have exposed both left and right issues. Keep in mind I'm using a retail Pink Floyd Echoes CD, disc 1 track #4, "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)". This noise is audibly present at various points throughout the track, especially, in the right channel, the helicopter bits. No audible issue still with my other system. From what I've been reading and what I've confirmed, it appears to be a jitter issue. I have not attempted to run the offending Telarc disc track's through this swapping action. Thinking about burning a CD copy of the offending Pink Floyd disc and see if the jitter will be affected. Any other thoughts on where to go from here?
  17. Thanks Guys, I got the Klipsch Academy! I found it as a recent trade-in at a Klipsch Dealer while traveling for business. It is black and in very good physical appearance with a 90 day warranty. It should arrive next week. My Receiver is a Yamaha RX-V1200 and I will try the KV-3 as the rear center. I do not have any rear surrounds for this system. Any suggestions are welcome. I am both space and budget challenged so more Forte speakers are not an option.
  18. Thanks, I had not thought of jitter as a possible cause. Reading up on the Google search now... I have yet to come to the conclusion that the jitter effect is always audible at the right channel speaker though. "How do it know?" The CD's are played through a Toshiba SD-3800 DVD Player, via coax cable, new in July, 2002. The CD's are not copies. Two other CD's with tracks with the same issue are Telarc. I do not remember the others right now. (The distortion has not ever shown up on the other system, where the CD Player is an older 5 disc Sony C8ESD with optical cable.) Many CD's and so far the DVD's play OK.
  19. I may be able to get an Academy Center. How much of a "match" is it for the Forte speakers (not Forte II)? My current center is the KV-3, how much improvement would the Academy be over the KV-3? How would the KV-3 match up if I moved it to be the Rear Center with the Forte Mains and Academy Center? Thanks
  20. I think my right side RB5 has developed a problem. Most times it is is fine but certain passages always have a distrorted crackling sound at even low volumes. Example, the helicopter on the Pink Floyd Wall selection on the Echos CD. Regardless the issue is always right bank and I think it is the woofer. On my other system, Klipsch Forte and Yamaha RX-V1200, I do not have this problem. The RB5's are biwired, set to "small" and powered by a Yamaha RX-V800. In a search of the forum someone found a problem with the internal leads on the RB5 woofer contacting. Any other ideas? (I do not have warranty)How do I safely get access to the inside of the RB5 to take a look? Thanks
  21. I hope this is the correct spot to post this message. I have also inquired directly to Klipsch Support. Currently I have Klipsch RB-5 speakers as mains and a Klipsch KV-3 for the center. I intend to someday add the Klipsch RC-3 Center. (I am searching for an SW-10 or SW-12 as the system subwoofer in an effort to keep overall costs down.) My fledgling Home Theater system is powered by a Yamaha RX-V800 DSP receiver with an older S video capable Mitsubishi TV, and a Toshiba SD-3800 progressive DVD player. The system is for 65% music and 35% movies so far. The only way to have 5.1 Home Theater rear speakers is by ceiling mount for this large room and existing open floor plan house layout. The ceilings are 10' high and the rears will need about 30' of speaker wire each to run them. My KLipsch Forum questions are: What Klipsch ceiling speaker models would be both appropriate and cost effective for this 5.1 set up? Are the Klipsch contractor grade ceiling "CS" speakers high fidelity enough to blend with my existing and planned Home Theater components? What gauge speaker wire should I run for 30' to each of the Klipsch ceiling speakers? Thank you, GHT
  22. Things come together and things come apart. I got the KV3 Center, it's pristine. Had a parting of the ways with the local Yamaha audio dealer, not much patience with BS so the RX-V620 deal is out... instead I confirmed an order today for a Yamaha RX-V1200, should be in next week. Sonically, I believe that in my environment the KV3 is very accurate as a match to my Forte mains. I ran it as a test left channel "B" speaker with the Fortes on "A". Truly looking forward to full on trial as an active center through the Yamaha. Still looking for space friendly Klipsch rears for my setup. Bid and lost out on a pair of KG 2.5 today.
  23. Thanks again group. However I should point out that my home office/ home theater room is quite small and crowded as well. There is just no way any of the larger speakers will be able to be shoehorned in here. (There is also a Mesa/Boogie guitar amp and several guitars in here in addition to, two PCs and printers, scanners, desks, file cabinets, etc. It's the best I can manage until the boys finish college. Now then, if I get the KV3 (no word yet), What "smaller" Klipsch speakers would you recommend for rear channels with my Forte 1 speakers as mains?
  24. Somehow "Beefy" just sounds better. Even though I've never heard either the KV2 or KV3, I made an offer on a KV3. If I get it I'll give feedback here.
  25. Thanks for the replies and support. What should I expect to see for reasonable price ranges for the KV2, C7 Center Speakers(and the Academy if any truly exist on the market)? What should I ask Sellers about these Klipsch models?
