  1. Agreed. It's just too much for high sensitivity speakers.
  2. Since the diaphragm is sealed on the horn I wondet if adding poly fill behind it would have any affect. Guess I'll need to pick some up and experiment.
  3. First off, Merry Christmas everyone!!!! Experimenting around tonight now that I have my full range speakers back after my xo rebuild by Bob. I've always tried to bring the mid frequencies down to eliminate the hot horn sound from the epic 2's. That worked to a point but you lost the voices, pianos and horns. Tonight I brought the mid range up and lowered the highs and used one against the other basically canceling out certain frequencies by adding more of another and it worked magically much to my surprise. Is this something common or did I just get lucky under my certain circumstances?
  4. Me personally run my preamp with it off. I prefer to add low end using my eq and adjust the mids and highs to balance it out. I also think it sounds terrible and puts an unnecessary load on your amp. Am I crazy?
  5. I can see that corporate view as a real possibility why they don't push repairs. But geez if you make such great sounding quality speakers why wouldn't you expect your customers to try and hold on to them as long as possible.
  6. I checked their website and didn't see any mention of being an authorized klipsch repair center. That's what had me baffled and I wasn't about to send my xo's to them. I kept searching and found this forum. Best decision I ever made.
  7. When I called Klipsch about getting my xo's rebuilt they gave me the number to Freeman Tuell in Dallas. Nowhere on their website did they mention klipsch as being a brand they serviced. I found Bob through this forum and used him and am very happy with that decision. I called klipsch back today and ordered a replacement driver. They pulled up my last ticket where I had inquired about xo repair and again mentioned Freeman Tuell as the repair service they recommended. I told him I went with Bob Crites and he knew the name and even mentioned he was in Russelville Arkansas. My question is why isn't klipsch recommending Bob? He's obviously the most qualified and knows more than any other repair center.
  8. Curious as to what design changes klipsch might have made. I own a pair of CF-2's and just had them all apart for xo rebuild. Not a lot going on inside the cabinet. It's fairly open with a little foam behind each of the drivers and horn.
  9. I'd use that system if a hot Librarian were available to assist me with the card catalog.
  10. Albums and CDs all A-Z regardless of genre or at least that's how they've been catalogued a few times over the last 30 something years. After pulling out a couple dozen at a time and sitting down for a binge listening session two or three times a month and then being too lazy or too buzzed to file them back that's not how they are anymore. Not looking forward to spending a couple hours filing then back so now they're strung out leaning against a wall, the entertainment center, the TV and anywhere else convenient where they won't get trampled on.
  11. Been there just this week. Got my xo's back and was mounting them to the cup. Got to the last screw and my phone rang. Took the call then got back to work but couldn't find that dang screw anywhere. Wasn't until I got on all fours to look under the table that I realized I had stuck it in the end of the screwdriver that has a screw holder on the end of it. That tool sure makes starting screws easier but it's not for the easily distracted.
  12. Talked with klipsch and here's the info if anybody needs one, k-1062 ev 8" driver for Epic CF-2 part # 120848
  13. Don't mind at all. Glad I could come up with a useful suggestion. I found a replacement driver brand new through Klipsch. They've replaced the 1029 with k-1069 ev. Ordered it today. I'l start a new thread and include the part # that goes with the 1069 so others will have the info if they're looking for an original replacement driver from Klipsch.
  14. Great idea on the frequency sweep. Youtubed it on my phone and it's definitely the driver. I've had the dust cap issue when they were new and that's more of a buzzing sound. This is a click on deep bass beats. And I was just just talking about the durability of the 1029 in a previous reply. I guess I jinxed myself. Soooo, anyone have a k-1029 kn they're willing to part with or know of a suitable replacement?
  15. Update, got my XO's back from Bob today. Wow, these caps look waaay better than the ones he replaced and they're a sizable amount larger. Got everything back together with the new tweeter and they sound wonderful. Had no idea how much sound I've been missing. I do have a rattle now. Sounds like it might be coming from one of the k-1029's at higher db's. Not sure if it's bad or if I left something a little loose inside. I'll tell ya I'd forgotten how much bass those 8" 1029's can deliver. Phenomenal. I'll be pulling it apart tomorrow to see if I can silence the rattle. If not I'll be in the market for a replacement k-1029.
  16. Thanks! Enjoying reading all the stories. I'll bet you Klipsch owners are the only ones who can so vividly remember the moment their life changed.
  17. That'll be the first LP I put on when I get my speakers back together.
  18. Agreed, unfortunately my job won't allow it. Something about chemical manufacturing they deem to be dangerous.
  19. Sorry about this post guys. In my defense Bob has my crossovers and I was resigned to computer audio last night… and there was alcohol involved.
  20. Thanks for sharing that picture. Now when my wife yells at me for listening at a level she finds unacceptable I'll refer her to this picture and remind her how lucky she is that this isn't in our front room.
  21. Some really great stories here. I'd love to read some in the post you're talking about.
  22. Hmm… I'd love to hear that story as well. I'm sure there'd be quite a few synonym quotes like "wow and flutter, driving those puppies hard, you should see these babies bounce, I put a little to much into it". Lol. You get the picture.
