  1. Does bill have any sweeps for the tuba ht that go from 10hz on? Only have found the 20hz and appears to drop quite quickly and can't tell from the lower end. This is the one I've found from lilwrecker.
  2. Rereading, even if the subwoofer isn't placed in the most ideal spot, I feel one will be overkill for the amount of sub I will need in that room. I can always turn it up a few dbs if it's not performing as I need and all seem to have more than enough power Id need. Also the couch reclines. Since I'm traveling I don't have any pictures with me. That could be good and bad. Good that it will recline over the top of something like the THT Long or bad that I need to pull the couch out further and option 3 would be the choice which I'm guessing then I'd lean towards the little wrecker since the mouth is a side exit. Currently though I'm probably more interested in which one is actually better since they are near identical in size. I think ideally I'd love to have a 8" wide quarter pie under the jubes as to not elevate them too high. Sadly I haven't seen a design that can hit the lower hz I want.
  3. San Francisco. Is there really much of a difference in sound between horn loaded subwoofer designs? That is a very good idea and a cost savings at that. I think I will always have use for the horn sub, garage or even put it on a cart to play outside. When we do build I can imagine how much further drivers will come in another few years and I will go all out at that point and can spec the right ones for the room at that time.
  4. Yup, was aware before my purchase. Not my design choice for a house....... Will be done 100% right in the future.
  5. I an agree with making long term goals, hence the jubilee purchase. Right now I'm renting, so mounting them in the ceiling/walls is a no go. I haven't picked an amp yet, which will depend on what or if I choose a sub.
  6. Pictures may help. This is a one story rambler and I'm currently renting so I'm limited. I love the idea of a table tuba and was thinking that, but since this is our only room that is open in the house the area in the center must remain open. "Kids play area." Looking at the picture I have an opening to the kitchen that can't be blocked as well as the one walkway to the bedrooms in back. I also have a glass sliding door that goes to the patio. I would love to have two horn loaded subwoofers, however putting them behind the jubilees would kick the left one into the walkway into the kitchen or moving the couch forward and putting one in front of the TV limits more floor space. This is only temporary until we buy/build a new home, so if I do go down this route having one sub would be better than none. I'm figuring on about 3 different options for placement. This would all be dependent on where it sounds good. I would prefer option 1 first to ensure imaging between the jubes is as good as it can get, then option 2 and 3. Hope this helps clarify.
  7. I'm liking the THTLP. It seems very comparable to the little wrecker and can do 16hz. Slightly longer but less wide and deep. I'm assuming the specs for the THT and THTLP are near identical?
  8. Been a long time member there, rarely post but avid reader. Lots of bassheads for sure. Is there any other horn thats more capable in that lower 16-17hz range and same footprint as the little wrecker? This is what I'm afraid of, so best to have a decision if I need to pull the trigger I can do so relatively easy. Since I've come to the tapped horns or rather horn loaded in the combination with jubes, with this comment I must be barking up the right tree
  9. I saw that post actually, I would have taken that off your hands knowing your OCD on builds!
  10. Apparently the wife wants a do over in the next few days..... this time I'm bringing my camera and a pair of golfing gloves for the slow clap to ensue
  11. For those following, I did post a question in the Subwoofer area. A lot of hypothetical there, but want to have a decision ready in the event that 30hz below is needed. I will try to keep that separate from here since its more of a sub question. Side note - we are very lucky to have such a large variety of quality speaker vendors in the US. I'm currently traveling and went to a movie theater overseas. I've never been to a theater that cost as much as it did with speakers that were being overdriven to insane levels. I honestly believe if I pulled back the curtain I'd see 100 random bookshelf speakers all wired together. This has been my findings in the several islands I've skipped across, but last night took the cake.
  12. As I await arrival of the Jubilees I'd like to hear input from Khorn owners as well since the lower cross points would be relatively the same. Most of this may be hypothetical, as I have yet to hear my Jubilees, however I have previously always had a sub-woofer and I just want to be ready with a decision in the event I get everything hooked up and notice I'm missing that 30hz and below. I may not feel the need for one at all, which would also be ok. To clarify I'm about 60% Music 40% Movies. With the music, I listen to about everything. The music that I feel that I listen to including a lot of orchestra, choir, organs, movie soundtracks do occasionally operate in that spectrum. I know for sure the movies I watch it will be missed. This is something that may not bother the wife and I can overlook until a later time, my concern is more for music. I've been reading various threads and and many reviews, it seems that horn loaded is probably the best overall option given my current situation and that they blend seamlessly. Also cost, as JTR's are just too much. (I just bought Jubilees so I'm WAF limited) I know the technology has dramatically changed even within the past 5 years so I'm open to any and all suggestions. We are currently renting our house and plan to build in a few years, at which point I'm certain I will be perusing something along the IB route to get to that 10 hz level. So while that is very intriguing, they are not an option currently. Bumbling around the AVS forum as well as here, I put together a tentative list. So far it includes othorn, F-20, THT, Table Tuba, Danley DTS 10/20 (not sure if you can still get kit), Lab12, Krakken, Lilwrecker. I'm sure I'm missing some, but this is what seems to have the most builds or the most reviewed. The room is 25x30, I have a few options for placement, but for now it will only be one subwoofer. Hopefully in the future I can build another. For now I still need to keep a little space since its our only open room. So size is a bit of a consideration. My goal is for the subwoofer to be able to clearly hit the 16-17hz range. Lower even better. I'm currently leaning towards the Lilwrecker. Since its tapped, it's limited to a lower crossover point, however it does hit that 16/17hz. It also has a decent footprint and the cost seems to be just right. Thank you in advance,
  13. You search every day and pray. Or open the wallet for 4003"s. You need to find them with the beryllium diaphragms intact. Ones in mint condition I have found can bring in $1500-$2000 each. Cheaper if you are lucky. I've been looking into them from before my first post just out of curiosity. If if I were you I'd just rock the K691s like me for awhile since they come with them anyways. If you dislike them then try TADs. There are a lot of alternativives as well BMS, B&C 750 Radian. Though that's another rabbit hole. Did you order the Jubes as well?
  14. Well, I would hope they would market them and not change pricing, but Coyotee is probably right and there would be a markup. Maybe at least have the 2 way version info available on their website. I got my DC-One new for $600, (Used DX-38's can be found for almost 1/2 that) D75a amps were mint for $100 each. They also come with the K691, they aren't TAD's but should be an improvement over the K69. Now, I'm hopeful to find TAD's and they are becoming hard to find, from the owners list, it appears a lot of users don't use them. I don't think its the cost that scares people away, but its a combination of the additional complexity (active) in addition to the lack of knowledge about how to get them working.
  15. I did an absolute insane amount of reading before I ordered my jubilees. (And I'm still not done) I have not heard khorns and really had to go after it to find the info. Thankfully everyone on this forum that has them was very kind to explain how they sound, how they set theirs up and how they use them. Without their advice I would still be undecided on what to get and may have bought khorns. I never intended my post/thread to become as popular as it did, but with well over 4000 reads and I haven't even received them, shows the thirst for them. I'm hoping future prospects can use that thread as a starting point and go from there. I wish klipsch would start marketing them in a consumer line. I'm not sure if they are or are not better as I'm going on everyone else's subjective opinion. Though selling something that is unchanged with 70+ years of heritage is a lot easier to market than educate the masses about the jubilee. My $.02
  16. We just watched Pacific Rim on the TV tonight. She had never seen it, but I did in our last house with the full reference line. Wife said, movie was actually not too bad.... was painful for me to watch again. Some people say its 50% audio 50% visual, but I vehemently disagree. With amazing speakers you can make a bad movie good, not great, but good. Id say its 75% audio 25% visual. I'm now chilling to some pink floyd on the laptop speakers... woohoo! I deleted all of my audio off my NAS. Nearly 20k+ songs. I was happy before with mediocre recordings and used to rip my CD's at the lowest rate to save space. (Ya I know the sin +T+ now). This is a fresh start. Like buying a vehicle used at 100k. change all the fluids, drain oil, transmission fluid, vac the brake lines, vac the power steering, vac the diffs, drain the radiator and antifreeze. This time going to do it right. Its a very slow process re-ripping the CD's. Though to pass the time. Any recommendations that I should pursue? I listen to literally everything. Organs, classical, old rock, 90s rock to daft punk. Love almost all music.
  17. No date on delivery, but they cant come before the middle of February since I will be traveling. I had a small window before then, but was doubtful they would be done by that time so I chose a later delivery time. I plan to take a lot of pictures, possibly a video of the unboxing. I'd like to also take a lot of photos of how it all goes together and how everything sits in place. I usually only see the fronts of the Jubilee. That will hopefully help others in the future. The time is allowing me to tinker with what I have on hand a bit and really focus on organizing the music and movie collection. The wife and I watched a movie last night and using the TV speakers is just painful....shes even starting to get excited for their arrival
  18. I'll chime in as I've owned both RF-82's and RF-7iis. Both of which were driven by a Yammy with no extra amps. I don't think you can really measure them in a percentage. It isn't equation that could be solved with numbers, for ex: car A can do a 10 sec quarter mile, but Car B can do 9.5 so Car A is 95% of Car B. RF-82's will fill the need of 98% of home theater and music lovers. I felt that they were very bold, forward and really did a great job imaging the details of the music. They are a brighter speaker than the RF-7, but a good EQ can solve a lot of that. The downside is once I began to push them, they lost their details and became harsh, nails on chalkboard harsh. Though amazingly they never distorted. Now I'm talking about high levels of sound for them to get this way. They kicked hard and could easily make a neighbor from 3 houses down phone the local PD. RF-82's do benefit greatly with a properly paired subwoofer. (My choice was a SVS 13 Ultra) The RF-7s deserve their status because they are the gold standard in modern loudspeakers. Almost every new speaker that comes out pendragons, JBL, XYZ etc the journalist writes them as a comparison to the RF-7 and for good reason. When Klipsch made Palladiums it was again compared to the flagship RF7. As an analogy, its like reading a phone review, we all know what phone they are comparing it to. The same example applies here, as the RF7 is one of the best overall rounded speaker money can buy. It is great for HT and 2 channel listening. The most notable difference when I upgraded was the depth that they provided. Its midrange is the most pronounced improvement. I previously I used a sub for 2 channel music with my RF-82. For RF7's it wasn't needed. In retrospec I needed much more power to drive the RF7's and should have went the separates route. I could push them far harder before they became bright and harsh. They also had a far better ability in separating the instruments than the RF-82s. I do want to state that I'm moving to the heritage line, as I've gotten older I've become more sensitive to bright and harsh speakers. It doesnt take long for me to develop fatigue, where the same effect doesn't apply to heritage that I've listened to. So it may seem I'm being overly critical, its just the way my ears accepted the music. I tried a many things to eliminate the harshness and had a few more to try, but got lucky and sold my last system with the house I owned. On that, if I wasn't prone to harshness. I would be 100% completely satisfied with RF-82's 7 days a week. It does everything very very well. However, RF7's really are in a different league and command the price tag they deserve.
  19. They sounded almost as good as the speakers I got from a guy a few years ago in a white van. I still go into the stores and just generally want a listen. Keeping to myself, I usually don't ask much. I guess I feel you can't determine what bad audio is unless you hear all varieties. On a side note, Wife has really good hearing and was present during their demo. She quickly picked apart how it sounded and asked if my new speakers would sound like "This"? Made me proud.
  20. Went shopping this weekend. I've seen the light!
  21. From what I read earlier, when you turn them off the thump doesn't do any damage to the bin, nor the compression drivers. I could be wrong though. I plan on using a Marantz 7300. For the HT side, I want a PrePro for the XLR, in addition it must meet the HDCP 2.2 standard, which this compliance BS.. ugh... anyways gotta keep the wife happy with the movies. I will be using a Gungnir DAC. I have all of my Flac files on a server (Synology) that I can push via laptop to the Gungnir. I plan to experiment with using the Gungnir as the DAC as well as the Marantz. Will see who has the better preferred chip. I have a few pieces of Schitt and they have all been amazing! hah. So for Music to clarify. Server > Laptop > DAC (Schitt Gungnir) > Preamp Prepro (Marantz) > Crossover (DC-ONE)> AMPx2 (D75a) > Jubilees > (ME BIG SMILEY FACE) EDIT - Forgot to add if I didn't say earlier. I hope someday to experiment with different preamps, tubes etc. Though after what I did to the bank account and for future posts of whats to come that option will be wayyyyyy down the line.
  22. More gifts arrived last night. Just got them together today. Must have had masking tape on them labeling them at some point, a little goo gone and cleaner look brand new! No deck rash, can't complain. Can't wait to try them out... For reference, the rack is Navpoint 6U, unbelievably thick steel, especially for the price.
  23. Oh boy. This may be a bit hard since I've never heard a pair. I stumbled on some threads of people who did blind tests of the 2 way vs the 3 way. There was some things that stood out there. I've chatted in PM's with several of the users that are and are not in this thread to get their opinions. Also there is a price difference, as the 2 way is cheaper. If going the 3 way, I felt a little locked in for compression drivers if I went that route, or I would need to buy more if I was unhappy with the sound. There seems to be more people that went 2 way over the 3 way and a little bit more public information with the 2 way. Now there are very very strong arguments for going 3 way. It may even be better than the 2 way. I ultimately had to just make a choice. I think saving the money on the tractrix and possibly using that towards amps, or a different driver than the K69 helped the decision. If I had unlimited funds, I would have gone with the 3 way for certain, I would have then went with some TAD-4002's and experimented with what I liked most. Using the tractrix or not. This was my thinking anyways. From what I've learned, there is no real right or wrong way and it will be amazing any route I go. Its that 1-2% difference in sound were talking.
  24. Not a long time to wait at all for your jubes! I'm hoping the phantom center will do well enough for the wife. I should steer clear of jubscala centers for awhile... if I start doing that crack I will be living in my Jubilee boxes! I guess I wouldnt think its that odd not hearing khorns and Jubes prior to purchase. I think its more odd when people buy speakers from companies that are relatively new. Now, I did go with Noble for IEM's, however the owner was the lead engineer for a certain other company many many years prior, also were out for a full year prior to my purchase. IEMs also have little history compares to loudspeakers. With klipsch, Khorns have been out a long long time, Jubes 10+ years?. Theres also a lot more information, though limited ownership. Then combine that with the heritage of the company and design being by done by the owner and partner in crime Roy. I'm quite comfortable with little to no worry about how they will perform.
