  1. Alex,

I work for Klipsch so please understand these are my personal preference and not at ALL affiliated or endorsed by Klipsch.  I have a set of 70th anniversary Khorn.

My room is rectangular and the Khorns are in the corners of the long wall.

Wood floor and the room is not complete yet...but I have done a ton of listening.  I also have a lot of vintage speakers, and high efficiency speakers with low power SET or Push Pull amps are my preference-but I have a pure class A 25 watt amp and an 80 watt hybrid.

I have been listening a lot to a 32 watt push pull (Leben) and an 8 watt 300b SET amp.  They sound very different, the 300b is romantic, its not necessarily "accurate" reproduction, it does midrange amazing, but the bass is as you can imagine not as controlled or authoritative.  Volume wise I can't at all imagine you "need" more volume, but everyone is different.

I have a 2.5 watt 45 tube and haven't yet hooked that up.

I listen to most everything except for country.  Have 5 turntables in the house and also do streaming and computer audio.

If you want something that sounds radically different from the Yamaha, or want to truly hear what tubes can do right, I would look at something like a push pull amp using EL84 tubes, should net 12-14 watts.  If you can live with lower overall volume capabilities and aren't after bass so much as you are tone and as you stated warmth, to me that comes more from SET than push pull.  There are always tradeoffs, but when I hear, Vinyl and warmth, I immediately go to SET and low power push pull.  I don't want to generalize, but based on what you described above, something like KT66, KT88, KT120 leads closer to solid state than warm tube sound...

Very nice review.  Covers the whole spectrum and is precise.

Now on another note, will Klipsch build a passive version of the Sixes?  I would not hesitate to purchase.

    Bill

It's not currently in the plan.  The SIXES do not use passive crossovers, they are fully active, so it would not be as simple as just removing power.  Since they are active there is DSP and that helps the speaker sound as good as it does.

Nice review.  Will we get to audition The Three in Hope this year?

For small I-pod docking unit, my 10-year-old RoomGroove sounds very good, so I can understand how The Three could have received the rave reviews.

We can probably arrange that...is there much interest in the ONE, THREE and SIXES at the HOPE Event?

  4. We are in Japan working on the Klipsch Heritage Headphones.

Check out some some of the progress.  Keep in mind these are prototypes so the materials, finish, coloring etc may look different...rest assured they will look like what we showed at CES.

Take note of the super cool new design for the 50MM driver baffle.

@grizzog there's a blog post on the sixes at http://www.klipsch.com/blog/sixes-powered-speakers-first-impression/

Beautiful speakers.  Says it's a review, however neither the speakers or turntable are hooked up....

We have a new social medial manager and I believe that may have been his first Blog post.  If you remember we had Alex writing the blog.  Isaiah just joined us and he started at CES.  I am sure he will start to engage more with the community as he gets to know the company and the products.

Interesting - where are they located? Hidden behind that grill going down the sides?

This is SUPER early pic and early prototype so don't go analyzing it as final design but you can see where the port is intended to go in this picture.  Look at the brace in the bottom and you will see the round hole to the side of the brace

Mille Miglia huh? That's on my bucket list. I usually attend a race here in Indy in May.

Just curious, did you move to Indy? Ever been to the 500?

It deserves to be on your bucket list!  Here are two stories I wrote about the Mille Miglia if you are interested...short reads-but guessing you can sense I'm passionate about it.

I still live in NJ, but have a condo in Broad Ripple.  Haven't been to the 500 yet, but no chance I miss it this year!

Is this Chris you mentioned senior acoustics engineer? Nice guy. I talked with him last week and he said to stop by and check out some of your new products. He usually doesn't talk about his work much, so the new stuff must be pretty cool. He would much rather talk about what I do or talk F1 racing

Yes same Chris.  I tried to hug him last week after I heard the passive Fifteen...didn't work but I got a handshake LOL.

F1?  Huge Motorsports fan here...Mille Miglia 3 times, 4th time coming up in May!

I was just thinking - if we're really using different words to describe the same thing, then perhaps we can throw some numbers on the table? When I hear low mass 15" driver in a sealed cabinet of that size, then I'm expecting an acoustic F3 somewhere between 50Hz and 70Hz, which is basically lascala territory. It's interesting that PWK noted 50Hz in that article @dwilawyer posted, so I'm probably not too far off.

Is it too early to release numbers like that?

Is it possible you've achieved better THD numbers at the expense of increased frequency modulation distortion? PWK had a lot to say on that subject...

Too early but the cabinet is ported...I believe they may go lower than La Scala.  Let Chris do more work and I'll get you some numbers.

Why does Made In USA have to be thought of as so much more expensive? Shiit is getting away with. Granted, their products are less labor intensive than a speaker cabinet.

I wonder if it is simply not wanting to give up on profit margin, which (and I am assuming here) is very good on high end speakers. Give a couple % to make them in Hope.

Yes, yes, I know it is not that easy, but could it be?

    Just random thoughts.

I truly wish it was that simple.  The cabinet construction is labor intensive and as you can imagine the cost to assemble the cabinet, fit the electronics and ultimately do reliability testing is more expensive in the US than China.  We initially created 3 pairs of prototypes and one pair was created at our wood shop in Indy.

We started the project thinking China but everyone was so excited we kept bothering Jay in the wood shop (ok I might have bothered him the most), and during that process we talked to Jay and Kerry about construction, both felt they could be built in Hope without need for any new machinery or additional work space (still hoping this is true).  Next week we I should be able to update the thread with what we have accomplished.

After reading what you have written I think I am going to be one of "those" that will disagree with you. Paul's principles have done well for this company and as long as I am still with klipsch, I will continue down that path. At least in the commercial side...... :)

COOL.  thats what makes this hobby Interesting...one person might want 200 watts and another wants 2.5 watts (45 tube), doesn't mean either is wrong...vanilla or chocolate.  I'll take pistachio!

I really don't see the issue with @Jainbaby's comments about tone and speed. These make perfect sense. Is it an issue with terminology?

For those of us with Heritage/extended heritage speakers, we know full well the benefits of a large low-mass cone.

The Altec 19 uses a very low-mass cone crossed at 1200hz and is absolutely fantastic.

PWK said the midrange is where we live. Sounds to me this is what The Fifteens are aiming for - they don't need to plumb the depths of the earth or reach past the upper limits of hearing. Tone is getting at the important pieces of the music and making it sound real.

I, for one, am extremely excited for The Fifteens and the Forte III. The Forte brings back the original spirit/sound of Klipsch, and The Fifteens go for that as well as bringing the old world charm with today's tech.

Count me as one that is extremely pleased with the direction of multiple portions of Klipsch.

Thanks, seems you completely get what I was trying to explain.  I had a set of 19's, great speakers!  I still have a pair of Valencia 846A and a Frankenpair of Voice of Theatre A7's (Frankenstein because I use them to mess around with stuff).

I probably shouldn't write this here, but some people already know that my intention is to build the Fifteens in HOPE!  It will raise the price but I really want to pull this off.  We have sent prototypes to Hope and are awaiting a quote.  Would you guys pay more if they were built in Hope?
