  1. I appreciate all the input. Chris has been very helpful and some of the info is repeat. I just wanted an open discussion as I move the khorns into my new room and can play with them. They are decorator 1969’s that have been filled in by the previous owner. I have crites crossovers, a55g, and ct120 tweeters. So the project will involve building a new top hat and filling the backs in. There are no limitations other than I want the final appearance to look similar to a B cabinet. Could be taller no problem. I have a friend with a cnc router and commercial table saw so the sky it the limit for final appearance. I don’t really want 402s because I have jubes in my main system.

I just worry about the smaller horns blending well at a 400hz crossover point.

I see the eliptrac 400 kit is very inexpensive and an option as well. Dave said they can potentially work as 2 way.

  2. I have some decorator khorns that I’d like to enclose the backs on and convert to 2 way. I’d like to talk about reaching the high end 20khz and I believe more importantly getting a horn/driver combo that will prevail at 400hz.

Top candidates are k510 and zxpc horns. Most likely faital pro driver as it is decently priced and has good performance.

Anyone succeeded here? I have jubes now so I don’t mind experimenting with the bedroom speakers.

    Uncanny!

I stayed passive... but I did buy an Ashly Protea 3.6, as yet unused, ...and a pair of LaScalas...

Guess what dropped of the radar? Lol

I sold the LaScalas once I found a pair of Industrial LaScala Splits that need some TLC, and a pair of Peavey FH-1 bins to compare once refurbed with K-33-E’s instead of the Black Widows... And that is where I am at right this minute!

In amongst all this I sniped a pair of KP-320 (two-way) crossovers to try on the Cornscalas before the K-510’s take a ride on a LaScala bass bin.

The KP-320 looks to me like the precursor of the “Cornscala”, and it crosses at 800hz.

Got to get my LSI Splits on line...

A pair of Heresy 2’s and a Boston Acoustics XB-6 sub are tiding me over for now, but I am jonesing for my LaScalas!

So you gave up on the 510 cornwall combo?

  4. Currently using the Bob Latino/Vta st70 with my jubilees. I’m very pleased, and was planning on building a set of the monoblocks with kt120s.

I see you can pick up the primaluna for around the same price. Think the Latino monoblocks are superior? More in line with the dialogue line?

    That sounds pretty awesome.

You definitely don't need extra bass in the back.:biggrin2:

Care to elaborate a little more on your room treatment? I’m trying to figure out some diffusers that aren’t horrible.

    Very nice setup!!

Don't think there is a need for some extra bass in the back of the room. Do you plan to add subs?

I was planning to have Heresy's all the way, when I build my HT last year. Finally I choose for some LaScala 1 as main and a Cornwall 1 as centre speaker.

The only place, I kept my Heresy 1 was in the back. The room was simple too small to have also Heresy 1's as surround.

For extra bass, there are 4 KW-120's.

    That's how it looks like...

I have a kpt-1802-hls up front. I’ll likely build a tuba htlp for the rear of the room to balance the room modes out.

I was just thinking since im building new boxes and crossovers anyway, that would be the time to pick the different drivers and crossover design.

  7. I have a pair of heresy 1’s I am going to redo the cabs and recap. One needs a new 12” driver. I was wondering if it’d be worth it to convert to super heresy while I’m redoing them. They will be used on their side on a shelf in the back of the room. I was wondering for this application if it would be more impactful in HT to have some extra bass back there. Or if the port could be moved to the front.

Surrounds are cornwall 1’s that may eventually be converted into cornscalas or receive a 510/k691.

    Mains are jubes.

Center will be a belle LF with 510 top end.

All 10 Hz. response did for me is to vibrate stuff down the hall, and even then VERY rarely, since examining the graphical data on AVS sites shows that the preponderance of output is above 20 Hz. for 99% of the movies. I find it wasteful to design and execute a 10 Hz. response. Good enough is good enough. Most cheap, direct radiators on the market barely reach 30 Hz. so doing 20 Hz. with a horn and 120+ db output EFFICIENCY, to me is the best way to OPTIMIZE sound reproductions. 10-20 Hz. response is EXPENSIVE sound effects that basically test the structural integrity of your house, second only in stupidity to BURP test of a van full of direct radiators pumping out decibel levels that rival a 747 jet a take off. Mega stupidity has different levels also.

Very well put. I’m glad to follow along the more well educated members and try to grasp what is going on.
