Thanks brotha. I got the original Focus. These are totally different animals then klipsch. Soft, sweet top end, massive bass, killer imaging and midrange. They are volume limited even with far more power on top then they can handle. This is good for me as it will encourage me, to listen at lower volumes as they sound great at that level. I also got the "step one" module that was optional for these speakers. Essentially, it's a dedicated preamp for the bass output that supposedly does some background voodoo on the bass as well to clean it up even more.

Then you would likely love them IMO. They are exceptionally smooth even at ridiculous volumes.

You have what I don't. Can't comment on LA scalas in a "proper" room. However, I'm my smallish room, the 396s were damn impressive. Also used them outside several times as well and they really excel in both environments. The LA scala will Def sound better at low volumes. If you are a low volume guy most of the time, the 396s aren't for you without using eq. The top end is lacking at low volumes. They don't need to be loud to fix that problem though. I was also using a high power amp, so your results may vary. I had them 3' from back walls, 1' from side walls, toed in with tweeters firing directly at me. The 396s will EASILY fill a large room with a little firepower.

You nailed it. After owning both, would have to agree. If I had a much larger room, I'd have to give the LA scalas another fair shot. They didn't sound right in my smallish room. The 396s have my solid stamp of approval and I can HIGHLY recommend them. Only just sold them as I got the pair of speakers I wanted slightly more.

Where do I start.... Clarity, effortless at ANY volume, excellent top to bottom balance, silky detailed highs, very tight and quick bass, wonderful mids. Yeah, I bought them unheard for a reason and they are Def winners. By comparison, in my room, I really didn't care for rf7 IIIs. Overblown, boomy bass, recessed highs and mids despite a lot of placement experimentation, very narrow imaging. Again, this was in my room with my gear. They RF7s didn't work well for me. I could happily live with the 396s at the last speaker, but I bought the legacy audio Focus exactly the way I wanted them and like them more 👂

I'll throw in a little bonus for forum members at this price. If you pick them up from me, I'll throw in a set of custom made Audioquest Type 4 8' foot Cables that are banana to barrier spades (connection on back of speakers). Say what you will, but this has been a favorite budget cable if mine for years.
