  1. I really don't think anti-cat spray would help with these critters. The gene pool that they sprung from definitely wasn't very deep. They'd probably think that I provided them some dipping sauce for those tasty little wires. Guess I'll stick to barricades, duct tape and garden hose.
  2. Since it appears that a number of you have cable crunching felines also, do you have any suggestions on curbing their appetites?. Currently I have the power cord to my sub encased in garden hose. The little darlings (soon to be slippers) go for anything from walkman headphone wire (extra yummy) to lamp cord.
  3. Well, I finally got everything together and everything sounds great! I actually ended up spending less for the speakers than I initally planned thanks to some expert advice from the boards. Just wanted to share a couple of things that I learned. 1. Women are invisible in stereo stores. (I'm quitting my job and taking up a life of crime as a hi-fi thief, I'll just walk in and roll the stuff out) 2. Take the caps off the optical cord ends before connecting. 3. Visit the Klipsch board for help. Special thanks to dougdrake, jhawk, and hwatkins.
  4. Since I have no real interest in pipe organ music here's the 3 tracks I have used (so far) to tweak my system. Jeff Beck - Cause weve ended as lovers Spyro Gyra - Catching the Sun Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Tonite/Tonite
  5. See the Home Audio FAQ link (On the Home Audio products page) for more subwoofer and connection information. Also, in my owners manual for the KSW 12 it states "If there is an inadequate amount of subwoofer volume even with the level control set to maximum, add a Y cord to the subwoofer end of the cable and connect to both of the line inputs. This will provide a significant (6db) increase in the subwoofer's output level." This might apply to your sub also?
  6. Hope you have better luck with the 5803 than I had with the 3802. Lot's of e-tailers had really excellent prices (MSRP-$400) but I had a tough time finding anyone with one in stock. I spent over a month waiting for nothing on backorder with 3 different e-tailers. Finally went with good-guys, one of the few authorized denon e-tailers, and they had it in stock at a higher price, but still less than MSRP. Some of the customer service reps indicated that denon is not currently meeting the demand for many of their products, but I wonder if they just aren't supplying the "deep discounters" i.e. unauthorized dealers. Looks like if you search yahoo shopping you'll find the model for $2999.99 and up. But make sure you TALK to customer service and make sure they really have the product. Also, Denon does not honor the warranty if you buy from an unauthorized dealer, so make sure whoever you buy from has some warranty. Good Luck and I think i've had far too much coffee, as i'm babbling.
  7. I have KG-4's and the finish sounds like yours. If they put a clear coat on them it was rather meager. I just bought some lemon oil spray from Halloway house (bought it at the grocery store) and using an old t-shirt rubbed the stuff in real well. Don't use too much it will make the speakers greasy (yuck). Not only did the stuff add a nice warm glow, it also made most of the minor scratches and scuffs disappear. I really didn't expect the results to last, but it's been a coupla weeks and the scratches still haven't resurfaced.
  8. This is a german website that has a copy of an interview (in english) with P.K. that was published in 1989. http://www.audioimport.nl/klipsch/14a.htm I'm goofing off at work today, I'll see what else I can find. Good luck Here's a few more. http://www.audioimport.nl/inhoud.htm - This is a higher level link to the german website, follow the links (both English and german) some lead to german articles and interviews but others lead to stuff in English. http://www.geocities.com/loudspeakerguru/subindex_page1.html - This guy has copies of some of PKs technical articles. http://www.audiocircuit.com/9107-horn-circuit/Commercial/Klipsch-KLI/9107CMKLI-HIS.htm - Chronological Klipsh highlights This message has been edited by cluless on 03-21-2002 at 01:36 PM
  9. Thanks for the links, will surf tomorrow before the boss gets in Relaxing is something I plan to do alot of when the I finally get my system all together. 10. Thanks! No HDTV, No Digital Cable. I had previously snagged the owner's manual, and that was the source of some of my confusion. I upgraded all of my cabelling to gold, and wasn't crazy to get an additional component video cable ($50) so I could run the dvd video through the receiver. I'll just run the audio portion to the receiver via optic and go direct from dvd to tv. (Probably direct for vcr also, less wires for the cats to chew on). My goal is to get this hooked up right, and hooked up once (yeah right) since the TV is a monster to move. Antennas, mines powered FM for the old tuner, hopefully I wont need it. Am sacrificing daily to the "back order " gods in hope of the receiver's arrival. Thanks
  11. Arrrrghhh. TV has video inputs (1 component, 1 svideo,2 analog) DVD has component, S-video, analog and... hwatkins - does the "like to like" and the onscreen issues combined imply that if a circuit (s-video, analog, component) is not active then on-screen capbilities are not available? For example, If I have the DVD connected to the reciever via component and then the reciever is only connected to the tv via component video. Then the onscreen functions are only available if the dvd is on? I know I really should wait till the receiver is in before I create problems, but I want to have all the cabelling on-hand.
  12. I'm in the process of upgrading to Home theather and my next problem (should my receiver ever get here) is how to connect the video components. Should I connect directly to the TV or pass everything through the receiver. The receiver, the DVD and the TV all have sufficent I/O jacks to do whatever. I just don't know what the trade-offs are. 14. Thanks for the info. The speaker on E-bay looks iffy, and I tried to call the Saturday Audio place and got no answer. Rob, please let me know if your deal falls through or if you guys have any other leads. Thanks Carol
  15. I have a pair of klipsch kg4s which I love but am thinking of moving up to home theater. My system will still be primarily used for music (rock/punk) so I don't want to make sacrifices in that regard. I have just started looking, and I'm really overwhelmed. I need suggestions on compatible speakers for center/surround and a good quality surround sound receiver. (budget 1-3k) Thanks This message has been edited by cluless on 02-22-2002 at 02:07 PM
