  1. LOL I was thinking that myself after I posted.
  2. Yea well those are ridiculous once in a lifetime type deals. I've gotten some decent deals like that myself off Craigslist. But not quite that level. There's still some deals to be found on Craigslist. You really have to be on top of it though. They go fast! It's just supply, and demand really. It's all the hipsters fault. If vintage wasn't "cool" you could most likely still get deals like that. We should start a rumor that some really uncool people are into vintage audio. Or maybe we need to start telling everyone that you can get cancer from vintage audio gear. Then maybe I too can get a pair of Klipschorns on the cheap like you did.
  3. I'd have to disagree. You just have to be patient. I've gotten a Geek Out 450 for $60 shipped ($200 new), and a pair of Eminence 12LTA, plus a pair of Eminence ASD1001 with horns/waveguides for $90 shipped over there. I think that's pretty cheap. $150 for $400 worth of gear seems like a deal to me. I've seen stuff go for half of Ebay prices all the time over there. I guess everybody's definition of cheap is different though. But what's not so debatable is the fact that I've not seen quality stuff sell for less on a regular basis anywhere else. Of course there's Craigslist, but that's as shady as it gets. You never know what you're really getting, or who you're dealing with.
  4. Very cool. Congrats. Good luck with your project. Andy B.
  5. Yea I just checked. nolasally is his user name. It's in the parts section. $100 a pair.
  6. Check Barter Town on AudioKarma. There's a guy selling a bunch of Klipsch stuff, and I think he may have some. I know it's $25 to join, but it's totally worth it. They sell stuff cheap over there. I got back my money on my first trade. Good luck Andy B.
  7. Very happy for you getting your new toy. I have to say though. It's with a hint of jealousy. I too thought this was a great deal on a great unit. And if I could have cobbled the money together. I would have bought it. I'm quite sure there's no DAC out there that will sound as good as this will for that kind of money. The fact that's it's so much more is just a bonus. With the exception of a few bad years. Marantz has always been a step above. This and a nice integrated amp, or receiver (vintage Marantz? Tube unit maybe?) on some decent Klipsch speakers, and you'll have a better sounding system then most people will ever even hear in their lifetime. Congrats to both of you. And good luck. Andy B.
  8. For speakers. Yes local is definitely the best, but for most other things. I'm fine with buying off forums, and such. I've not had any problems. And with PayPal you're protected. That's why this scammer was trying to use another service. Even local you can have problems too. I trust the guys on this forum more then I do just some random person who has no big love/respect for our hobby. But like anything else in life. There's always risks. Just have to be careful, use due diligence, and pay attention to your instincts too.
  9. I'd be straight up shocked if there was a actual amp. lol
  10. Thank you. I will when I have time to. I've been very busy. I work 6 days a week. And I was thinking of calling Crites when the time, and money situation are right. Or maybe talking to the guys on the Parts Express forum. I may be talking about a bit of a redesign here, and that might entail a whole new crossover too. A lot has to do with money though, and I'm not sure how far I'd want to go. I'm eventually doing something a little more dramatic. Homemade speakers. Eventually I want to build speakers that are actively crossed with a solid state amp up to 250hz for bass and mid bass dynamics. Then a horn, or horns up from there on tubes all ran through a computer based dsp, and/or pro loudspeaker manager unit. But then I went and bought a pair of KG 3.5's, and found out how nice Klipsch speakers are. Then I heard my first pair of Klipschorns last week. So now I'm not so sure. I don't have room for Klipschorns though. Or the money either. And I already own a lot of what's needed to do an active setup. We'll see. For me the journey is half the fun. So I'm just having fun right now. And I'll eventually put up a wanted to buy post for the woofers of that's what I decide. You guys have all been so friendly, and helpful. I really appreciate it. Thank you Andy B.
  11. I think you may be thinking of another speaker. RF-3's have 2 8in aluminum woofers (that go into breakup at 4500hz), and 1 titanium tweeter with a 6 in horn. And toeing them in will not, unfortunately, make them less fatiguing. They're not that bad really, because I have tubes to help warm them up, but at high volume after a while. You can feel it. Nothing a notch filter can't fix though. But I also want to raise the crossover to 2300hz like they did in the RF-3 II. And maybe get some better crossover parts too. Like Duelund resistors. And maybe paper in oil caps. We'll see. I need to do more research, and check the prices. I don't even know how many parts are in this thing. And I'm not exen sure if they're worth it. There is some damage on them. I really will have to replace at least 1, maybe 2 woofers to make them proper. So I may just go as cheap as possible, and enjoy them like that for a while.
  12. Thanks man. I've been very busy. I haven't even had time to give a proper listen, or even move them around to see what works best. But they have real bass. If I had a high power SS on these. I'm betting they'll pound. Maybe I'll try it one day for fun. But they're basically good enough to hold me over for a while. I'm gonna have to work on them some though. They are a little fatiguing. I think the cone breakup is the problem. But I knew that going in with aluminum drivers. Have a great night all.
  13. So I grabbed the RF-3's tonight. Asking with an SW-10 sub. I'll post more after I hook them up, and listen. Maybe I'll start a new post. Can't wait to hear them. Andy B.

    KG 5.2

WOW! I'd be all over them. I'd pay the guy via PayPal to make sure I got them. That's a steal.
  15. Here's some pics on AudioKarma http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/opinions-on-scott-200-amplifier.798928/#post-11074992
  16. Yea those speakers seem to be made for tubes. They sound fine on my SS Sansui 8900zdb, but sound amazing on both tube amps. They really have a nice voicing too them. Instruments sound like they should, as do voices. But they have a bit of magic to them. The woofer/tweeter really mesh well. Seamlessly I guess you'd say. Some of my other speakers aren't like that. Like my KLH Model 33's do on instruments, but in some sources. The voices are just off. And some speakers like my Advent 5012-w's which actually have the old fried egg tweeters in them to replace the originals which went bad I guess. Sound very coherent, and seamless also. But there's no magic. I think it's the horns. I got to hear Klipschorns for the first time yesterday on this Scott amp, and they had the same thing going on. But a little different obviously. The bass was very nice. I really like that big cabinet bass sound. And I still could use a little more volume when I really want to rock out. But realistically there's very few times when I'll be able to even get it as loud as it goes now. Seems to be at about 60-70 percent I start to hear a little distortion. So I'm not going over the 1pm mark on the dial. And it's very nice having balance again. One speaker is always a little louder, especially at low volumes. Oh, and of course the loudness too. That's going to come in very handy. It sounds great though. Better then I expected actually. And like I said. It never even got to full temp. It has 3 Telefunken 12AX7's, an original Scott rectifier I think it is tube, and 4 Amperex Bugle Boys for the output tubes. That may have something to do with it. BTW I just have to say. The gentleman that sold it to me couldn't have possibly been any nicer. Really great down to earth dude. He really knew his stuff too. I learned quite a lot yesterday, and had many questions I had answered. I'm eventually going to buy a Scott tube tuner off him too. He had the HH Scott 4310 "Holy Grail" tuner. And I didn't really know about that thing till yesterday. So I'm touching it like it's no big deal, and then I see him put a sock over his hand to change something. And I was like "hey man. How much is that worth?". OOPS! But he has a bunch of their other HH Scott tip top tuners he's not using. Very sweet setup to say the least. And he just got the Scott 222c too. That's why he was selling the 200. Alright I need to do some work. Have a great night guys. And thanks again for all the advice.
  17. Thanks again guys. I have to be to work, before it will even get up to full operating temperature, but I just quickly hooked it up anyway. And I may not need those speakers. The bass is much harder/heavier now. Plus now I have tone controls. So I can boost it one notch, and it makes a little more. I know I shouldn't boost it a lot, and crank it up. But I'm listening to Mike Watt rip it up right now with Firehose (Chemical Wire), and it sounds great. Exactly the bass tone I expect. And I tried The Chain to see what the kick drum sounded like and much, much better then before. I can't say how it compares to my SET/SEP in sound quality yet. But so far it's doing its best to keep up. And fairing pretty well I might add. We'll see. It hasn't even warmed up though, and I'm impressed. Have a good night guys. I'm late for work.
  18. Hey guys. Sorry busy as all heck. I did grab that HH Scott integrated yesterday. Still haven't been able to do the speakers yet, but talked to the guy with the RF-3's. Maybe tomorrow, or Monday. I'll put up all the info with pics, and stuff when I have time. I just tried to add pics, and they're too big on my fancy shmanty phone it seems. How do I do thumbnails? Or should I just use an app to shrink them? Take me ones that are smaller?
  19. Thanks Maynard for that link. I'm going to look at that some more when I have time, and try it out. I do have quite a few SS receivers, and I use a digital source. I also have a meter. So I'm good to go. I'm thinking of contacting the guy with the RF's, and someone just posted a HH Scott 200 integrated on Craigslist I might grab too. Just to get an idea of what other tube stuff is like. And between the two I think I'll be happy. Maybe I could even do a biamp thing with the Scott on bass, and the 6l6 on the highs. Either way if will give me options, and let me hear what a PP factory amp sounds like to compare with my SE. Thanks all Andy B.
  20. Thanks for the advice billybob. I actually saw a pair of Chorus on the Boston, or similar Craigslist that's not too far from me, but $800. That's too much for what I'm looking to do. If I were to spend that much on a pair. I'd want CP-3's, or RF-7's maybe. I already passed on Forte II's because they're too wide. I am really tight on space. I like that style of speaker better actually, but need to do a tall, and narrow design. Ya know I've read its 10db's, I've read it's 6db's more times then I can count. Either way. Mine I said. The KG's are very close to getting as loud as I like. 95%+ of the time they are more then enough. So I really think 4 to 6 is enough. But I would love the full 10. And I'm going to build that eventually, and use this amp for either the mids, or highs and I'll get another to do the other. With SS on the bass. But anything from like 80hz-250hz up is getting SET, or SEP power. I need to do some experiments to finalize my plans first to decide. I may, or may not do open baffle. I have to try it first though. I'm doing that soon. I have a pair of Eminence Beta 12LTA, and ASD 1001 with waveguides on the way right now. For experimentation. I may just build a cornscalla or something similar in the end though. We'll see. I want to see how my room takes the open baffle, and I need to figure out how to do an active setup. I want better quality then minidsp, but not spend a fortune. So it's going to be a learning process for sure. Yea I've been looking at that guy's stuff. He has a nice business going there. I found some E version's for like a dollar less, and those for even less then that. But I would trust him more I think. I actually want to try, and get a bunch from someone to save on shipping. I mean some nice NOS ones for the whole amp, not just the outputs. But I haven't found anyone that has everything I want at once. But I'm in no rush. My tubes are fine for now. Are any, or all of those matched? Would you sell just two, or 4 even? Do any of you guys have a preference on the regular vs E version? This whole tube thing is so new to me. And I read a lot of conflicting things. Plus I don't really even know any specs on my amp. So I don't know. I'm confused. I need to try to email the guy who built it. The gentleman who sold it to me was great, but he's a photographer not a tube amp expert. So he couldn't answer all my questions on the amp. He did really try, but he just didn't know all the answers himself, and he's a busy guy. I don't really know much about it, or even what tubes it can use for sure. I don't know any of the voltages it can handle, etc. I know it's self biasing, and it will do a lot of different tubes. I wish I knew more though. Thank you all very much for your help. Andy B.
  21. Maybe that does make it ultralinear? I don't really know much about it, or tube amps in general. I just know it sounds great. And the Pentode mode does seem a bit louder, but not much really. It has more of an edge though, and that's what I use when I'm rocking out. But late at night for some smooth tunes I use the Triode setting. It came with 6L6EH which are really 6L6GC from Electro Harmonix (sp?). And 2 old GE 12AU7 for drivers, with 12AT7 for buffer, but he have me an NEC 12AD7 that I'm using now instead. I plan on getting some 6p3s,or 6p3se soon. Have you tried the 'e' version? I've seen people say you have to get that, and others say they don't like them? Thank you everybody. It's a tough call. Especially since the KLF is known to have issues with the glue between the baffle, and cabinet. And the RF being a lot cheaper. I'm afraid the KLF might be too much, and need work. Then I'm worried the RF won't be enough, and I'll have two more pairs to add to the stack that I'm not using. LOL This will be 9 or 10. I'm running out of room, and money. What about adding a sub, or subs to my KG's, and maybe even cutting them off at 80hz? I have a car audio sub, and amp. And I have 2 Boston Pro 12.5lf's I could buy/build boxes for, and get a cap, or something (HT preamp with high pass) to fit the KG's. That's similar to how my car stereo was set up, and that thing pounded like CRAZY! I'm eventually going to need to buy all this stuff anyway for my homemade speakers. So it's no big deal to buy it all. My worry is it still won't be loud enough. But I think cutting the lows out, and adding the sub would definitely give me a little more volume. I'm not sure what to do really. But $200 for the RF's isn't that big of a gamble. I just wish they were a little closer. My car has issues, unfortunately. And I'm a little paranoid about it. Last time I bought a pair of speakers far away my car blew up! But they're awesome speakers (Canton Quinto 540's). LOL
  22. BTW I'm leaving for work in a few minutes. So please don't think me rude if I don't respond right away. Thank you Andy B.
  23. Hey guys. I joined this forum recently, and was very warmly welcomed, but unfortunately haven't had much time with the holidays to get back here. So here's the deal. I went against all my budget objectives, common sense, and plans while buying my amp. After looking for weeks to buy a nice amp I decided I'd had enough looking. And after reading everywhere how SET amps are so great. I bought one. This one too be exact: http://glowinthedarkaudio.com/vital-SE6L6.html It's actually a SET/SEP switchable w/ adjustable feedback. And to be honest. I was blown the f@ck away! I'm not even fooling. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The clarity, the separation, the dynamics, the.... just WOW!!! Blown away! With a couple of exceptions of course, because nothing is perfect. They are volume(SPL), and bass. So I did more research, and decided that Klipsch would be a great choice to hold me over, until I could buy/build something really nice. They're easy to find, and reasonable. People seem to have a love/hate thing with Klipsch. Sure a few don't care either way, but it seems people either love them or have them. So I took my chances, and found a pair of KG 3.5's for cheap on Craigslist. Brought them home, and again WOW! These things are amazing! Put me in the love category for sure! I have some pretty nice vintage speakers to compare them too, and we'll it's no comparison. Tell me I can only keep one pair of my speakers, and it will be these, at least if it's with tubes. I haven't tried them in SS yet. Maybe this week I'll do that. But again. I want more volume. Just for those rare times when no ones home, and I want to rock out. And I want more bass always. Not necessarily low boom type bass, but tight bass. Mid bass I guess I mean. Like the kick drum hurting your chest type of bass. Now I know I'm not going to get perfect chest thumping bass from an 8 watt SET amp, but I want better then what I have. So that's two pairs of Klipsch that I would buy right now that are close to me. KLF-10's ($350), and RF-3 ($200). I have a 12x12 room with 8 ft ceilings, and not much room to work with. The KLF would be as big as I could go, the RF would fit in much better. But I'm not sure it's a big enough of an upgrade from the 3.5's? So what I'm asking is. Will these be a pretty big upgrade? 4 more db would be plenty I think. I'd like 6db, but 4db would do nicely I'm sure, as the 3.5's are just right there, but not quite in SPL. And they're pretty good on bass, but not quite. I'm also wondering if the KLF isn't too much for such a small room? I also have concerns about how much room I'll need behind them for the port? Please tell me what you guys all think. I'm eventually building my own actively crossed speakers, but want something a little better then the KG's to hold me over, until I do. I actually have some drivers in the mail right now on their way to me as we speak. But that's another story. Thank you guys.
  24. Just curious why are you are selling? And are you looking for anything in trade maybe? I'm interested in it, but money is a bit of an issue. Mainly because I don't NEED it. It would come in handy though. I just wish I knew if it would sound much better then my current DAC. Thanks Andy B.
