  1. Thanks so much for responding. Yep, a Yamaha. I guessed the higher setting was there for a reason, but the manual and tech help where I bought it didn't provide the answer. I will check this site further (my Google attempt was much too broad) []
  2. I hope somone won't mind offering some help. My receiver has impedance settings. One requires a minimum of 6 ohms per speaker for one set of speakers and 12 for two sets. The other minimums are 4 ohm per for one set, 8ohm for two. Is there any advantage to a 6 ohm setting for the RF-62s? Otherwise, I will probably just play around with my old pair as 'B' speakers. Many Thanks, OD/ND
  3. Many years ago, when I was no daddy, still living in the spawning pool, my dad put the largest antenna he coulf fit in the attic with a directional motor. I won't say why he did it, but it drove me nuts. It was a dynamite set up, but there was one local station that always had a shadow and other sporadic problems on other stations. We could pick up some stations that lesser rigs couldn't, but of course reception would suck when the game was blacked out locally. You'll never stop wondering how much better a roof rig would be. Don't do it man! Mike
  4. I don't know squat about tubes, but this I can confirm. I tried to get on and that site is deader than Webvan
  5. Have you considered room acoustics & speaker placement?
  6. Congrats, I read your news with my Mia sleeping on my shoulder. With all due respect to Klipsch and tubes, there's nothing like it. To this day, no matter how fussy, she'll always calm down when we're dancing to music. Don't be afraid to try a LITTLE volume either. Wishing you the very best, Mike
  7. Thanks for all the suggestions. A whole bottle of Benedryl just made me want to listen to music more and I was able to scratch off the radio collar in no time. But during my research I found the classic speaker stand for those of you with classic Klipsch check now I found a pair I really liked at a local place, but I was afraid our attorney general would come over and drape it with cloth. Mike
  8. Audioasylum has some great links in the FAQ section for speaker positioning. Perhaps experimenting with thick quilts or something HF absorbant on the side walls will give you a clue about any proximity problem without busting your back. Good luck and post your findings as you go. Mike
  9. LOL. You forgot just hanging the toddler from the ceiling. In this day and age, I should probably mention I'M KIDDING! Thanks for the scoop, MH. I've seen weighted stands mentioned, but it sure helps to get a lead on good one's. I will probably end up running the wiring up to the ceiling. It will look a bit goofy, but the peace of mind will be worth it. The room is a sort of family/entertainment room, so banishment is not an option either. Wall mounts are really not an option given listening position and room acoustics, so I'm going to go search the WEB and see how much scratch I need to come up with. Thanks to all, Mike
  10. Hi All, Despite the fact that I don't own Klipsch (YET)I am sure that I can get some great suggestions from the gang. I've been playing around with speaker placement in my 12*24*6.5 ft listening room and find I that for these monitor boxes a position well into the center of the room helps sound stage (I'll second MH on that one) and minimizes HF resonance. Well the new daddy part of my life is close to mobile herself (although all she'd do with a Mulard tube is stick it in her mouth) so I need to baby proof these puppies. Right now they're perched on speaker stands that would fall over in a mediocre California shaker. I am seriously considering hanging them from the ceiling. Comments on this and other methods are gratefully welcome. Thanks in advance. Mike
  11. Hi Ray, I was saddened to read of your troubles. In my short time on this BB I have come to appreciate your posts. Cliches can be tiresome, but many are longlived because they remain relevant. "Cream rises" is one that comes to mind here. Wishing you the very best, Mike
  12. Hey All, Cruising ebay when I spied these. auction The price may be low because the seller has no history, but I wanted to hear your comments on the "upgrade" etc. May be a good opportunity for a risk taker to snipe. Mike
  13. Wow this is too weird! First off I will be happy to forego the work, since I should use my precious time (new daddy) perusing everyone's posts and trying to figure an avenue into this tube and horn maze given what I can afford (old daddy, kid in college) and my weird listening room. So when I've done enough homework to halfway understand what I'm getting into (OK, at LEAST a sixteenth) and I can ask the right questions, I'll sure appreciate all the subjective help I can get. But what is really weird is that what led me to the quest that started me onto this forum in the first place is that annoying quality in the midrange and the highs of my two way ADS speakers hooked up to a Yamaha RX-770 receiver to be just slightly reminiscient of talking to a plastic clown head at a burger joint. I guess even though my hearing has gone enough to have trouble conversing over noise, those dome tweeters haven't burned out my brain enough not to pick up on that coloration. So MH and Deang, I'll give you credit for being prescient ( even as a statistician)! I'll be talkin' to ya! Mike
  14. Boy was the wiring example a mistake. Well, if anyone thinks of anything that we might have some fun with, the offer to crunch data is open. BTW, I once tried to steal some high volt stuff from the local power company, but I forgot to sharpen my Swiss Army knife before I climbed up. Mike
