  1. Here is the s/n for a Klipschorn 12S905 From what i've read they are produced in 1978 is that correct? Thanks
  2. Wow longdrive03, thanks for the generous offer. PM sent to you. Also, thanks "John Chi-town" for the tips. I appreciate the help guys! Thanks, B
  3. I've owned my Cornwall II's that I bought new in 1986. I need to replace the binding posts. I had banana connector ends plugged into the posts and something fell behind the speaker and broke both the pos/neg posts off down to about 1/8" of the threads. Is there a tutorial or pics that anyone has on replacing these? Is soldering required to replace? I have not removed the plate yet to see what I'm getting into, thought I'd start here with the Klipsch community. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Great, thanks for the info, I have contacte the guy who has the article and he will be sending it. It was reviewed in 1975 in High Fidelity.
  5. Sorry, not able to post pictures. Dimensions are 25h x 15w x 12deep BIGBLUE
  6. Hey all, First off, let me say I have been a Klipsch owner for over 20 years and love the forum. Bought my first pair of Kg4's that I still own and enjoy. Bough 2 pair of Corwall II's a couple of years later and use them as the mains in my living room. I need a hand in identifying a pair of speakers (specs and price new) I picked up at a flea market this weekend. The brand is RTR and my guess is early 80's. I believe bic america owns rtr now? They are 2 way with a 1 1/8 inch tweeter and 12 woofer. Model number is EXP 12. These also have a tweeter control dial on the back from 0-10 that is "clock-like" and adjusts the output of the tweeter. Anyone have any information on these? I picked them up for $10 bucks! and hooked them up to an older Yamaha amp that I had. They sound great! Curious to know the price when new or the blue book price for someone in the know. Thanks BIG BLUE
  7. It was summer of 1986 when I walked into a Klipsch dealer and heard a pair of K-horns for the first time. The guys were bored and decided to hook up a Sony Walkman to the "highly efficient" K-horns in the listening room. What a cool thing, I thought the walkman was the reason for making these speakers sound so good, then I got my first lesson in speaker sensitivity and efficiency. I was hooked on how great a speaker could sound. The next day I walked in with just enough cash to buy a new set of KG4's and a Denon DRA-555 receiver to go with them (a $1000 bucks is a lot of cash to a broke 17 year old college bound kid) at the time the K-horns were "only" running about $3000 a pair so it was out of the question. One year later I was going to "trade" my KG4's for a set of Cornwall II's but just couldn't part with them. Instead I bought a pair of Cornwall II's and Heresy II's on the same day and still own all three sets!!! (The Denon receiver still in use too!) BIG BLUE
  8. Hey all, Saw these on e-bay, the buy it now price is pretty low, they are not very pretty but if they are in good mechanical condition it could be a good buy for someone. What do you all think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50597&item=5755336232&rd=1 BIG BLUE
  9. Greetings, As I'm reading the classifides today I ran across the following ad: Stereo Equipment, McIntosh C28 pre-amp, McIntosh 2105 amp, McIntosh MR74 tuner, head level cabinet, 2 Klipsch corner horns with birch face finish all in excellent condition for $3750. Now being a Klipsch fan/owner I realize that the Khorns alone used are probably worth that much if they are indeed in "excellent condition" like the ad reads. However, I know nothing about this vintage Mac equipment other than if it's McIntosh it's quality. So, would this be a good price for this combo and anyone that has similar equipment matched like this how is the sound for 2-channel? I could always use the addition of the Khorns as front mains and use my Cornwall II's for surrounds and look for a Belle for center (just a thought). Any comments/suggestions are welcome. I've left a couple of messages for the owner and will try back to set up a time to "experience" this system. (Now if I can just convince the wife that I'm only going out for milk and bread but may need to take the "for emergency use only checkbook" hehe) Thanks, BIG BLUE
  10. Ok guys, Here's the deal, I've been a Klipsch owner for 17+ years. From the day I walked into the local Klipsch dealer and heard the Cornwalls I knew I had to have them. Well at the time college seemed like a better investment so I "settled" on a pair of Kg4's until I could stash away the money for the Cornwalls. So, here I sit many years later with two different two-channel systems and the urge to finally get with the times and create an affordable HT system. The Cornwall II's (that I purchased new in '87) are in the main listening area and the Kg4's are in the finished basement and are begging to be a part of my first "experimental" HT system (nothing fancy just functional with a smile). Now, since I've found this site I've read many different posts on HT and matching speakers, and those of you with the Heritage line I'm sure can point me in the right direction. I'm currently running a Yamaha RX-596 two channel receiver and am happy with the sound, before that I was pushing the Kg4's with an old Denon DRA-555. The Yamaha delivers enough power to play at high levels, and even though it does seem a bit "bright" at times I like the punch that it delivers to the Kg4's. Now a little about the listening room. It's 14x24x8h with the equipment on the 14 foot wall. The couch will be about 14 foot away from the TV/Speakers (imagine it "dividing the room") so the other 10ft behind the couch will not be useable space. With this limited space, and really not a choice to have a set of speakers on the floor I'm thinking of hanging the rears from the ceiling. Any suggestions on this? Maybe the RS-3's? How would a pair of the Quintets match? For the front center I'd like to find an Acadamy but that may be tough to find. Any thoughts on a good center match with the Kg4's? Also, I'm considering going with the Outlaw 1050 to power this configuration. Will this drive the low-Ohm Kg4's or will I end up with a hot plate for a receiver? I've read many good things about it and for the price and since it will the "basement" system I just want an AV receiver that will deliver a punch like the Yamaha and be versitle. What sub would match well? I'd like to stay around the $500-$700 range here. Last but not least, in what order would you purchase the speakers. I realize that I need all 4 to complete the system, but would you spend more on the center and suffice with less $ surrounds or just the opposite? And how does the sub fit into the equation I'll be interested in hearing responses from those Kg4 owners that have built their system up from there. Thanks for any and all input. I realize that there are many possibilities and no-one is going to agree on the exact system, I'm just curious as to how those with a similar set-up arrived at their conclusion and final decision. Sorry for the book, thanks in advance, BIG BLUE
  11. Greetings, Glad to have found this forum and look forward to joining in discussions. I have been a Klipsch owner for over 15 years. Bought my first pair of KG4's in 1986 and still have them. Using them in the basement as a secondary system. I also have a pair of Cornwall II's in my main listening area that I purchased in 1988 and still sound as sweet as the day I bought them. Question I have is what is the best way to clean them. Both are oiled walnut and the KG4's have seen there share of "basement grime" in the last couple of years (I know it's a shame, one word...KIDS!). Seems like when I bought these the rep said a good lemon oil applied with cheesecloth would suffice but I'm looking for suggestions from the crowd. Once a Klipsch owner, always a Klipsch owner! TIA, BIG BLUE
