  1. I was going to purchase the MX3000 a few weeks ago but decided to buy a cheaper MX700 instead. I am glad I saved the money. The MX700 was 1/10th the price of the 3000 and does more than I would ever ask it to do. The RF is awesome. No more pointing. I too like the hard buttons over the touchscreens.
  2. This is what I play. A black onyx Pacific CX kit with Paiste Innovations. Mike
  3. I also live in Tampa and am getting a little nervous. The news channels are saying that we should expect a 16 foot storm surge and 130 MPH winds. That will put alot of water where water doesn't belong. We have had a ton of rain in the past month and all of the retention areas and conservation areas are overflowing already. I hate to see what it is going to look like around here tomorrow. I live on a lake that is surrounded by conservation areas (read swamps) that are already at peak capacity. I do have flood insurance though so I guess I will be covered if the RF-7's float away. Word of advice to locals. Take lots of pictures of your stuff. Insurance companies really tighten up during times like this in order to limit their exposure and losses. Mike
  4. I am thinking about making the move to separates and have been doing a ton of research. I searched audio review and found the Odyssey Audio amps to be the top rated units. I currently have a RF-7/RC-7 system with a Yamaha RX-V1000 receiver. I will probably use the Yamaha as a pre-amp until my wife gets over the purchase of the amp. Does anybody have any experience with the Odyssey amps? If not, what amp do you recommend? I am looking for a 3 channel, 5 channel, or 7 channel unit, high current, and around 150-200 WPC. Thanks in advance, Mike Check them out at www.odysseyaudio.com or at www.audioreview.com
  5. I recently bought 2 RF-7's and 1 RC-7 for $1925 plus tax from my local authorized Klipsch dealer. Find a dealer that you trust and is willing to offer you a fair price. Mike
  6. I got the GLS banana plugs about 2 months ago and am very impressed with them. I did not expect them to make my system sound better, just more convienent to work on. My equipment is in a built-in entertainment center with no rear access. Bare wires=knuckles with no skin. I got the types with the little set screw to hold the wire in. They work great and appear to be very high quality. Mike
  7. Gilbert, You are referring to Sensuous Sounds. They sell killer equipment. McIntosh, Paradigm, Krause, and a few others. I went there a few weeks ago to buy a set of Paradigm Studio 100's but ended up not liking the sound. Sounded like the midrange was missing. They no longer sell Klipsch though. If you like horns, listen to the Krause speaker they have. They are impressive. Mike
  8. Now that is what I call fierce loyalty. I have ordered my set-up from Speaker Exchange in Tampa. They are an authorized Klipsch dealer. Thanks for the input.
  9. RDog, Where did you end up getting your speakers from? I am also from Tampa and miss having Sound Advice selling speakers at buy one get one free. Time to man up and pay full retail, NOT! The local installer said he would sell the RF-7/RC-7 to me at 10% off msrp. I was just wondering if there was a better deal to be had. I keep reading about all of these guys that got their RF-7's for $1600 from an authorized dealer and did not want to spend the extra dough if it is not necessary. Thanks in advance. Mike
  10. CAZ1604, I just called back and they told me that they now have the RF-7/RC-7 available to demo. Thanks for the advice. I am going to check them out this week. The only problem is that prices are full retail msrp... Oh well, I guess we can't have good local authorized dealers and good prices. That would be asking too much. tillmbil, I spent all afternoon Saturday at Sensuous Sounds. You are right, they have killer equipment. I am having Shawn design my projection system and acoustical treatment for me. They do great work. That is where I demo'd the McIntosh LS-360's and the Paradigm Studio 100's. The Macs kill. But at $7500 with no negotiating allowed, I cannot convince the wife that they are a necessary investment. The Paradigm's seemed to lack alot in the middle. I made the mistake of listening to the McIntosh and Krause speakers first. That was a stupid move. All else sounded weak. Mike
  11. Thanks for all of the responses. I am trying to call AVC as we speak. I am glad to hear that they have the set-up I am looking for available to demo. I listened to the Paradigm set-up this morning and was impressed. The speakers sound great. I then made the mistake of listening to the McIntosh LS-360's in the same room. Big mistake. They made the Paradigms sound not quite so good. It sounded like there was no mid-range to mid-bass on the Studio 100's. Just treble and bass. The Macs were $7500 with no negotiating allowed. Take it or leave it type of deal. I left it. Uh oh. Bad development. I just spoke to the folks at AVC and was told that they just became a Klipsch dealer and would not have any speakers available to demo until they moved into there new store. This just sucks. CAZ1604, are you sure you spoke with the right people? Oh well, off to demo JM Labs in St. Pete. My next step is to order a set of Axiom M80's for an in home trial. They are getting rave reviews. Mike
  12. I think I am going to give up on Klipsch. I have been trying to demo a pair of RF-7's and an RC-7 for a while now in the Tampa area and cannot find an authorized dealer. Sound Advice dropped Klipsch. The only authorized dealer is a little home theater installer that I cannot reach. I give up. I have owned Klipsch for several years now and love them. I was planning on moving my RB-5's to the rear, selling my RC-3, and replacing the fronts with the RF-7/RC-7 set up. I could buy them online but it would be nice to at least listen to them first and I am afraid of the warranty thing. This sucks. The local Klipsch rep should be beating down the doors of some of the local speaker shops trying to get some representation in this area. Tampa is a big market. Enough whining. I am off to audition Paradigm Studio 100/CC-570 at my local authorized dealer. Mike
  13. Thanks for the info. Their website says I can only buy Klipsch speakers from their retail store. Is that not the case? Mike
  14. I went today to my local Sound Advice to buy a set of RF-7's for my new home and was informed that they no longer sold Klipsch speakers. Told me Klipsch yanked the Synergy line from them in favor of Best Buy so they said "the hell with that" and decided not to carry the Reference line. I do not have another dealer within a 50 mile radius according to the dealer locator and if I buy off of the net I get no warranty. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Mike
  15. I have my KSW-15 on EBAY right now. Check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1356016856 It is in perfect shape and has been used very, very little. Feel free to email me if you have any questions Mike haneyrm@excite.com
  16. Sounds like a ground loop problem. Lots of people have them. Usually is fixed by trying a cheater plug which isolates the ground on the sub. I had a similar problem and found that it was a cheap interconnect. I would unplug the interconnect first and see if the hum goes away. I used the cheap blue AR lines from Best Buy and they caused a ton of noise in the sub when it was not operating, but was on. Also try isolating the incoming cable from the cable company. This has been known to cause a few noise problems in the past. Mike
  17. Love this response...... "Klipsch is know, basically, by the sensibility of their speakers and their Horns. The sensibility makes them sound loud with less watts, and the Horns can bring impressive details without stressing the drivers (which leds to distortion and compression)." Is speaker "sensibility" a good thing or bad thing? Mike
  18. Thanks for the heads up. I had heard the same thing about computers. The thermal shock is worse on the circuit boards than just leaving them heated up all of the time. Seems to make sense to me. I have left the sub on for 4 days now and am much happier with the low volume performance (no waiting). Mike
  19. My KSW-15 takes a long time to turn on automatically. I have to turn the volume up on my RX-V1000 to around 30 and wait about a minute for the thing to come on. My question is-Is it ok to leave the sub on all of the time and not use the auto-on feature. I like having some bass when the volume is not cranked all the way up and the auto-on feature prohibits that. Thanks in advance. Mike
  20. I purchased a KSW-15 about 6 months ago and went through the same thing you are. I wanted to position the sub close to the listening area and needed about 60 feet of cable. It was late Sunday afternoon and the only place I could find cables was Best Buy. I ended up with 4-15' AR interconnects (not specifically designed for subs) plugged into one another. Needless to say, the hum was so annoying I took the cables back and moved the sub back to the front of the room and bought a Monster 10' sub cable. No more hum. I have heard that quad shielded RG-6 is good for subs. Is this true. Mike
