  1. Whooo Hooo another Harman Kardon user. I don't feel so all alone. Hmm actually I think there was one other person who has HK. Don't remember who it was though. ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

But then I really never followed it either. 4. Malcom, hey thanks dude for the explanation. That then generates yet another question. If a theater is using klipsch speakers, and the speakers are not THX certified, does that mean a theater is not alowd to show the THX opening clip? Oh and I can tell you, it's that little THX logo that I found out about Klipsch, I had never heard of them before. I was looking through a computer gaming mag once, seen an advertisement for the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 and that it was THX certified. If not for the THX certification and logo, I would not have givin them the time of day. I liked my Altec Lancings just fine. So, because of the THX logo, I became aware of Klipsch and am VERY happy that I have. Paying that extra fee can be very binificial. It was for Klipsch in my case. All my H/T speakers are Klipsch. Hmmm, I most likely would have ended up with Bose. Why? Because I knew the name and had heard of them. ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 05-03-2002 at 01:28 PM
  5. Well.... Purchased a Monster Cable Power Bar , I was told it was going to make my system sound better. I personally didn't notice any difference, but I do sleep better knowing that I am well proteced in the event the unlikely event of a major power spike. Or what have ya. Also I like the protection warrenty. 7. Ok, so everyone here seems to agree that Klipsch either are the best speakers, or some of the best. So, with that, why is it that Klipsh is either non existant or has very little exposure in movie theaters? Well, non of the theaters that I have been in. Also, is Klipsch working towards getting a THX certification on speakers other than the ProMedia? If they can make some PC speakers that are THX certified, seems to me they could do the same with their home theater and professional speakers. Or am I missing something here and they ARE certified? If not, is it by klipsch's own choice? ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  9. tblasing Hey, very nice story. You almost had me in tears hear at work. I just knew while reading it, it was going to end up sad (thank god it didn't). And all I could do was think about my two young sons and myself. I have a very soft spot in my heart when it comes to children and the relationships they have with their parents. Without a bink of my eye, I would lay down my life for my boys. As far as Sept 11. Wow so many thing have gone through my head. But mostly it has been my wife and my boys. I was very fearfull for them for months and months. I suppose you could say the terrorists won in that aspect. They did strike fear in me. I think the one thing that saddend me the most about the attacks was not so much the people who died, but all the children who lost parents. How do you explain to your 4 or 5 year old.... Mommy is not coming home anymore. Or Daddy is not comming home anymore. How? How can you do that and make it so the child is not fearfull and can understand? For about six months prior to Sept 11th I used to be a serious online game junkie. I was playing a game called Tribes2 online almost every night. I couldn't wait to get home from work, I couldn't wait unil the boy were in bed so I could run off to the PC and play my game. If I was not playing my game, I was on my computer learning the latest programming technologies. I really took my family for grated. Eh, they will be here tomorrow, I can play with the boys another time. That kind of mentality. Needless to say, the terrorist attack rocked my world. It changed me in ways that I never imagined. It caused me to take a long look at how I had been almost a non existant father and husband. It made me not only feel as though I needed to change that, but made me want to change that. I think i have played that game twice now since sept 11. What is important to me now is being with my family. Ensuring that my boys know I love them, ensuring my wife has a husband around, not just a roomate. Ya, Sept 11, though it was the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed in my life, it has really altered my way of living with my family for the better. ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  10. Rockon The difference is that a receiver will have built in things like FM/AM stereo, sound decoders, the ability to have speaker settings, things like that. An external amp, really does nothing more than take a signal and give it a bunch of power so that it can be pushed through the speakers. I belive this to be the jist of it. I am sure there is a much better explaination that I provided. Please anyone, correct me if I am wrong. As far as your receiver, if it has powered outputs, then no you don't need to buy an extra amp. Now with that said, I have a receiver that will power my center, fronts and surrounds; however; it does not power my two rear channels. Thus, when I decide to get a rear channel(s) I will have to buy an external amp to push those two channels, or replace my receiver all together with a receiver that has 6 or 7 powered outputs. Here is a couple of links to a site that was provided to me by lynnm on a different subject. 11. Well, I hope noting in the reference series comes too soon. I am an upgrade freak. I always think I need to have the best, latest and greatest. 15. Oh... Cool thanks guys. So how can you tell if it's clipping? Is it simply by distortion you sometimes hear? 19. Ya no kidding. I want in on the action. I would rather have a clear platic that I can stick to my rear window than a bumper sticker though. She wants to paint the house based on the color of our couch. A couch which is about 15 years old. Needs to be replaced. Cat claw scratches. I love her dearly but she can be so *** backwards at times. I mean who in their sane mind would base the color of a living room on old furniture that you know your going to replace anyway? 23. Well, my wife has put up with a lot from me. I'm a computer software engineer, so I spend a lot of time studying new stuff and upgrading my PC's all the time. And I play lots of online games. However, don't play as much as I used to. So in some since, she has become used to my geeky ways. I honestly think this is bitter sweet for her. I think she hated the initial price, but at the same time, I think she likes the sound. Of course she will deny it to her deathbed. I only have a couple of other things I want. 1) A speaker for a rear channel 2) An amp to push that rear channel 3) About 4 transducers to mount to my floor joists 4) An amp to push those transducers. I could combine 2 and 4 into one purchase I suppose if I got the Harman Kardon PA 4000. I could have 2 channels at 100 watts, 4 at 45 watts. I don't know much about transducers, but I would think 45 watts would be enough to push transducers. Hmm, will have to check it out. ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  24. HDBRbuilder Ya, actually I have been thinking along those lines myself. I guess what I was getting at though is that if I want something new, I don't have to worry about her blowing her top. Na it's not like I am going to spend every cent I have on HT gear. ------------------ the m00n system Should have my R3 system replaced with R7 this weekends> FRONTS: RF-3II CENTER: RC-3II SURROUND: RS-3II SUB: RSW-12 RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 DVD: Toshiba SD 3205 (DD, DTS) TV: Samsung 27" Flatscreen COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  25. I don't know how I managed so don't bother to ask but, I somehow got my wife so sick of all this home theater stuff that she now has a hands off aproach. She doesn't want know anything about anything I do, she does not to know how much I spend, she does not want me to make a mess. She just does not care anymore. I told her that I would be picking some stuff up on Friday, she I don't care, I don't want to hear about it. What does that sound like? Sounds like a green light to me. hehe.
