  1. LoL @ fini.... Thanks for the responses all.
  2. Hey all, I'm cutting it very close on my wall with the TV/Audio/Speakers. In order to get an audio rack on the wall it looks like I'd have to remove the feet on my RF-5's to give me a few more inches. My question is whether I need to be concerned with any accoustical or stability issues with removing the feet(carpeted room). Anyone done this? Thoughts?
  3. I'll take a look, thanks! Right now I'm thinking of getting some custom oak stands made by a guy on eBay. I sent him an e-mail with the dimensions of the RS3 footprint and his prices on the generic stuff seem reasonable. I'll post if/when I hear back from him.
  4. Has anyone found a decent speaker stand for the reference series surrounds? I'm looking for any good links to webpages where I might find some that will support my RS3's.
  5. Don't be shy, I won't hold anyone responsible if my 3802 goes poof! Is there anything I could post that would make my question more clear? Maybe I'll have to post over at the AVS forum and see if my results are different......
  6. I recently purchased a Niles VCS HUB8 to clean up some wiring. http://www.nilesaudio.com/pdffiles/manuals/Volume_Controls/VCS_HUB8.pdf I know that this particular model was intended to run to multiple sets of speakers operated by seperate volume controls, but I got it nearly free and it fits in my network interface box nicely. In the manual it states " Caution! Every speaker pair in the system must be connected to an impedence-magnifying volume control and set to the same magnification." My question is this. If I am only connecting one pair of output speakers(surrounds) to the input, can I ignore the above warning?
  7. I had stated above that I saw a Mitsu with a DVI port, I was mistaken. I thought I saw one on their 65" DLP monster but I double checked and it wasn't there. Thanks for the post RangerSix, very informative.
  8. I've been researching HDTV's the last month or so and it's driving me nuts trying to decide to go with something with a DVI input or something with a firewire(IEEE 1394) i/o port. I've been looking at mainly Pioneer Elite, Mitsubishi, and Toshiba and it appears that Mitsubishi has DVI on some units and firewire on others. I couldn't get the manual to download on the Pioneer website so I'm not sure which technology they are supporting. Toshiba seems to be solidly behind the DVI technology. -Any opinions on which technology will win out? I would hate to end up with a 4 or 5K boat anchor in a couple year when this whole thing pans out. I realize that the DVI passes a huge amount of bandwidth (5 Gb/sec uncompressed) but can you imagine 3 DVI ins and one DVI out on the back of your receiver? That's a lot of space, those connectors are freakin huge.
  9. It's obvious that what's wrong with that picture is that the warning and instructions are still in the plastic on the ladder and you never took them off and read them...... Edit: oops, sorry didn't see the second page....guess I was beat to it. Hope your are feeling better Moon.
  10. -Originally posted under Technical Questions... Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I was shopping around for DVD Players to add to my Xmas want list and if this this is all it's cracked up to be it seems like a bargain. SACD, Pro. Scan, plays CDR's and MP3's...for a little over $200. Also, when your dvd player and your receiver both have DTS and dolby digital decoders which one does the work? Thanks in advance fellas...
  11. Thanks for your input guys, moving this to the HT forum so no more responses here please.

    Console gaming

I play PS2 on my reference system. I love the bass thud when I really clobber someone playing Madden 2003, but I usually turn the game sound off and listen to the radio or something while I'm playing. Sad part is that I blew my wad on the reference system and receiver and currently am using the PS2 also as a cd player and dvd player!
  15. I have the opportunity to pick up an 8" polk powered sub which was struck by a lightening surge for $25. I'm willing to put some work into it but is it worth it or is this thing garbage now?
  16. I'm looking for a good source for online dvd purchases. Some place with reasonable dvd/shipping prices and a good dts selection. Any suggestions other than Ebay?
  17. Thanks guys, much appreciated.... I've got the RS-3's ceiling mounted with the Omnimount brackets and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I'll have to try and get some picks posted!
  18. Ok, should be obvious, but the manual hasn't really made my mind up. I'm finally installing my RS-3's and can't decide where to hook them up. The 3802 has surround A/B/Back options. I need to hook them up to A or B correct? Or do I hook them up to the "Back" set of leads? They are my only surround speakers. My intuition is telling be to hook them to A...... Sorry for the newb question, any help is appreciated.
  19. Yeah, my cats are always trying to use my RF5's as scratching posts. They are declawed in front thankfully. They did the same thing with my old speakers. I've yelled at them for the last 4 years and it hasn't helped.... Maybe I just need to buy them a real scratching post?
  20. Big fan of rage here..... was a BIG fan of Soundgarden. Chris Cornell ex lead man of Soundgarden has teamed up with the Band from RAtM in a new band called Audioslave. Only heard one track from them so far and it was so so, we shall see......
  21. I hear ya there bro, I haven't been able to listen to much rap since Ice Cube was putting out GOOD albums. Some of the more recent Dr. Dre and Snoop stuff is alright. Same with Eminem if you look past the insane subject matter of some of his lyrics.(Dre really does know how to mix a beat)I rememeber when rap was about telling a story... not the same chorus over and over and over again. Most pop rap or hip hop songs now are more like a malt liquor commercial jingle. Growing up I had De La Soul, Ice Cube, NWA, Public Enemy, Ice T. and a couple of my fav's were Too Short and K Solo. Most of their songs had a message or story.... I mean besides take your clothes off or shake your a$$.
  22. What works best for these wood plates? Oak, Pine, MDF? I have no clue as to the density of different types of wood.....
  23. That may be the case then, I tried "From Dusk Till Dawn" (which is prolly 2.0) and "Scary Movie"(?) I'll have get my Matrix DVD back and give that a shot.... -Mike
  24. So I should be able to play DVD's on the PS2 and get digital quality surround sound with the Denon 3802? is that a correct statement? Doug- Yep I have selected the DVD source to accept digital audio from opti port 1 and that's where I have the PS2 plugged in on the receiver. When I play the Dolby Digital movie my Denon panel shows "Digital" and "Dolby Pro Logic" but the light on the left hand side of the receiver for Dolby Digital does not come active. And the sound does work, it's just not true Dolby Digital. I didn't see any menu to chose which sound "version" on the PS2 or in the DVD menu. So, thus far as far as suggestions we have a couple of happy campers with the Toshiba...
  25. OK, I was in denial on buying a DVD player. I wanted to wait until it could replace my VCR and I could get a DVR instead. But, I recently put a DD DVD in my Playstation2 and realized hey this isn't going to work for my DVD player. I'm running opti audio and S-video out of the PS2 into the Denon 3802 but my DD light on the receiver wouldn't come on. This receiver does the decoding for DTS and DD correct? Guess I don't understand why it won't playback in DD. Any suggestions are welcome. Next plan of action if this doesn't work: Any suggestions on a cheap reliable DVD player? I figure I don't need progressive scan since I'll probably have a DVR by the time I have a HDTV. And I probably won't need one that does any decoding right? All decoding for DTS and DD should be done in the receiver I believe. Is there a certain brand name that has established itself with affordable/reliable/quality audio and video output for dvd players? Thanks! -Mike Denon 3802 RF-5's RC-3 II KSW-15 RS-3's
