Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I will add plenty of photos, my asking price and many more details/comments tonight and already have some inquiries. The sale will help me recover from the Holiday expenses (I have 3 kids-2 of which are teens 😲) and the speakers will surely make someone on here happy! I will not be auctioning them and really hope to sell them on here.

    Thanks again everyone!

Teenagers that aren't into cool "vintage" audio??? Are you sure these aren't ready to live a second life shaking apart a dorm room in the next few years?

My little one in only 3 years old so I really don't know what teenagers are into these days.

    GLWS!

  2. For those in the know - for a long narrow space such as this is it better to place speakers along the long wall or short? I guess its just as easy to try both and see what sounds better.

Enjoy the 4th quarter - my dad recently retired so it's been interesting to see how he plans to play out his 4th quarter as well :)

    condition: excellent
    make / manufacturer: Klipsch
    model name / number: Klipschorn
    size / dimensions: 48x30x24

Beautiful pair of 1955 Klipschorn- verifiable by serial numbers- with original, large wood midrange horns. Woofers were replaced in around 1960 with Klipsch branded Jensen P15LLs. Midrange drive is a Klipsch KV 400 and tweeters are large, alnico EV T-35s. These have the original, early 16 ohm crossovers with big coils and Paper in Oil can caps as well. Very rarely offered or seen, and these are superior in every way to the stock and modified 1978 pair I owned. Cash sale only. No trades, checks, money orders etc...

Man, you guys are smart.  I was going to repair mine even though it was over 20 years old.  There is no way after what I found in it.

For some reason I couldn't drain it with my 50 foot hose so I used a 2 gallon bucket.  I got nice clear water for the first 90%.  Then when I got to the last 5 gallons it looked like the Ohio River after a flood!  The water was muddy and murky and you couldn't see 6 inches to the bottom of the bucket.  I was bathing and washing my clothes in that?

    Yuck!

It just sediment at the bottom of the tank, not a surprise if its a 20 year old unit. Once the new one is installed its a good practice to drain and flush it out one a year to keep the sediment from accumulating. This will also prolong the life of the tank.

  6. Gas water heaters have a limited lifespan irregardless of brand or warranty. I'd plan for replacement every 10-15 years and if you get a few more years out of them then its a win. I'd skip any wifi monitoring, etc.... there's no need for it and it only adds unnecessary complexity and expense.

  7. FYI if you go through a plumber you'll need to get a permit, inspection and possibly increase the scope to address other items (such as adding straps in case of earthquake, adding an external drain, flexible connections, replace leaky valves), etc...

Not necessarily a bad thing but it can quickly increase the cost beyond what you initially expected. This recently happened to my mother in law when she was selling her house in WA. A $500 gas hot water heater ended up being closer to $1,800 when it was all said and done.

  8. Wow quite the thread! I randomly came across this as I'm in "research mode" for my first set of large speakers and have narrowed my focus down to building some Cornscala's. For the price/performance ratio assuming you are comfortable with DIY it seems like this would be hard to beat. As much as I'd like to throw down for the Cornwall 4's i'm not there just yet. I've seen reasonable deals on Cornwall II's (around $1k) but they are all in the midwest or east coast, here in Oregon folks want $2k for the same thing and they almost never come up for sale.

In any case my plan is to use plywood to build the Cornscala's, most likely I'll order the kit from Crites that includes the motorboard, crossover and speakers.

  9. I always use "look what I saved" when it comes to the garage. How do you think I can justify owning an old landcruiser and some older BMW's.... When I rebuilt the steering knuckles on the landcruiser I mentioned that I saved $2k since I didn't have to hire it out.

The same logic can be applied to audio equipment, its all about setting expectations high and coming in below budget. When your significant other thinks you will be spending $500 on something all of the sudden $100 seems like a bargain!

    @Tarheel

Good to hear you're feeling well enough to ....

was pruning the bush/trees today.  Came across my least favorite pest....  bees. In the ceiling/roof of one of my sheds.  Immediate trip to the store for some raid. Not something I keep around. I don't think they've been there long. Not a big enough space to get too crazy. One can should be ample.Hope I got the queen this attack.

I highly recommend Bayer Tempo 1% dust for wasps. You can get it on Amazon, along with a duster for less than $40. Last summer I had a wasp nest under my siding under the eaves of the roof, dusted it with tempo and they were gone (including the queen) within a day. This spring at my new place I used it to knock out multiple ant nests around the perimeter of the deck. One bottle will last years.

From my understanding this is what the pros use, its pretty impressive. Good luck!
