Sure, i agree. Maybe i didn't express my point clearly. Forget the 'expensive'. My point is, it seems to me (BUT i may be wrong!) that some very knowledgeable forum members put the utmost care in choosing and configuring their speakers while at the same time they're not much interested in all the rest of the chain. So, i'm wondering if that's actually true. And if it is, why?

Btw, thread title is obviously provocative. 😎 Please don't take it literally. I see there's people on here which has so much knowledge on the audio matter that's kinda scary. (scary because it just makes me understand how little i do know and how much there is to be aware of) And THAT's also what raises my 'question'. I mean, the same people which are so deeply in the known about frequencies, phase and all that audio world, seem to be useing 'cheap' gear. Apart from the speakers, of course. That puzzles me.

This is what i suspect and what i'm genuinely curious about. I mean, i find it weird to see 10k+ speakers connected to 'cheap' amps, also because i see that in threads where all single audio frequencies are dissected with utmost precision. 🤔

I'm definitely not an experienced audiophile (i'm mostly a music lover that is trying to improve his listening experience), but i think i've noticed a curious difference between this forum and the few others i've been visiting. On other audiophile forums they all talk about famous amps, high end DACs, huge cables… i mean, all that expensive stuff. And speakers, of course. I'm well aware this is, let me call it, a 'speakers forum', but i'm quite surprised anyway because i don't see any trace of all those expensive devices. Speaking of amps, for example, i've only seen mentioned Crown amps. A brand i wasn't even aware of. I'm not even sure if they are considered hi-fi…? Btw, i've been reading several threads on biamping, where those Crown amps pop up here and there. And they're used to pilot quite expensive Klipsch speaker systems. What are your thoughts on that? Please mind that i'm not trying to be polemic at all. I just find all this a little ironic. Speaking of irony, this makes me guess that if i visit a McIntosh forum, for example, i'll probably find people talking the hell out of McIntosh amps, most of which connected to 'cheap' speakers, because amps are what it's all about. 😅

Sorry for the pretty noob question, but what i have right now to pilot the LSIs is a McIntosh MC352. I'm well aware that's a lot of power to feed into these high-efficiency speakers. Would that be a good reason to keep the K-43s? Thanks for the link. I wasn't aware of Crites at all, i'm gonna check that!

That's not a problem, i'm gonna use the handle as a bridge in the circuit to replace the missing parts. I read it gives you punchier lows. Anyway, i won't replace anything, i'll go for an ALK solution (was already considering that, so, in the end, i've got no harm from this 'situation').

It seems he had a pair of Klipsch mcm1900. He sent me a pic of them used together with the La Scalas i bought. So maybe he needed some spare parts to fix those…? Anyway, this old man is incredible, he's still saying – QUITE aggressively at this point – he bought the La Scalas new and that nobody ever opened those cases. He says that they've always sounded perfect and that i'm an idiot (just he used stronger words) because i myself said i was liking their sound, before noticing the 'problem'. He's even offended because i doubt of his honorable words, to the point of menacing me physically ('if i could come to your home we would finally work this out…" kind of thing). I'm speechless. 😫 Guys, the world is a dangerous place out there. 🤣😖 (He's not even living in Italy anymore, he's in Santo Domingo and at this point i think such a guy probably HAD to leave Italy because of god only know what kind of past deeds… LOL)

I already had a looks-like-an-handle part in the garage, so no handle left, fortunately 😎

Thanks a lot for your offer, Geoff! Really appreciated. In the meantime, i solved the mystery, so to say. I managed to open the bass bin and there's nothing apart from the woofer. Which is in perfect conditions, btw. So no customization to enable bi-wiring. The (so very honest) guy who sold me the speakers just took those pieces away. God only knows to what purpose. Anyway, that's not too bad, since i was already considering to switch to the ALK crossovers. Now i just have one more reason to do it. I'd like to ask one more thing about this pair of LSI. These are the components that i found inside and would just like to be sure they're all standard LSI (and that the guy didn't mess up with those too…): Tweeter: K-77 Squawker: K-55-M (K-400 is written on the metal horn) Woofer: K-43E Crossover: AL type (at least what's left of it…) Would you confirm it's all correct?

Done. I went for the handle solution. It was pretty easy, the gasket material isn't sticky at all, so i didn't have to pull too hard. Maybe even a 'softer' solution would have worked just fine. Now i'm left with two extra screw holes, anyway, they are barely visible from the inside. I'll just use some wood stucco or something like that to completely close them. A friend of mine just suggested using a large suction cup (which he says he has). That sounds fine, and definitely not invasive, i'm just not sure it will work on an irregular surface like this…

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a way to do it, thanks! Actually, the first thing i tried was to pull two of its screws at halfway their paths, but that way i just couldn't give much force on it. I didn't consider a larger screw and leveraging on it. I'll try what you say asap (hopefully during the week, but most likely this weekend). Since we're at it, any alternative ideas? To put more meat on this thread.

The pic is the lower side of the La Scala Industrial's bass bin, but i guess you know that. 😎 I understand the cover is sealed to be airtight, the problem is i can't see how to get inside with a putty knife and remove the gasket material… I could use a lever, but i'm quite afraid of damaging the wood… How is someone supposed to open this mystery box?
