  1. reminds me of a joke that I can't tell. PC crap
  2. When we were building that cow skull, we spent as much time indoors drinking as working. --------------------------- was listening to Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Alan Parsons.... Either my memory is toast or they changed a bunch of solos ... I have it on vinyl and presume it has been remastered on spot. Like watching different cut of a movie... "Hold it. I don't remember that"
  3. I got it bad once. It was the hottest day ever recorded in Tucson. I was on the lake and still got cooked. Drank a bunch of room temp water when I got home....then took a nap.... woke with the worst "hangover" ever. All the classic symptoms. Sick to my stomach and a monster headache .... .
  4. It takes a while to set in that our bad weather is too much sunny, dry and warm Too much of a good thing.
  5. there's an oxymoron if there ever was ... I still laugh at ads for "turf" companies that unroll plastic grass and call it turf. They used to paint grass green for the winter. I thought that was pretty funny, too. It faded out to looking "natural".. but when the paint was first put down....it was day-glo green. I take "a dip" in the kiddie pool. That buys me a few minutes of time to work.
  6. if every day was GREAT... great would become average sometimes we need to be reminded what "good" is.
  7. Holy cats!!! Accuweather forecast called for rain at 6AM.... they were wrong and I thought the forecast was screwy. It is raining at 5:45.
  8. Hi @Edgar "out of control".... We like to think we can control nature. So far, we have seen those efforts blow up in our face. ...as I remind myself we have to accept the fact that we are not all powerful and have no real control. Have faith [and take some comfort] that things are the way they're supposed to be, whether we like it or not. Hope you feel better today regards, Bill
  9. put that between two slices of sourdough.... Was chuckling at the weather forecaster. It was 113` in Tucson and he was trying to make it sound like it gets much warmer than that ... excuse --- highest temp ever recorded in Tucson was 117` . Ya think you are really gonna notice 4` more? Hit and miss rain... We got a miss today. Did cloud over and wind came cool around 5. That was nice. A little sooner would be better. Did knock the edge off. oh spot is still running the way it is supposed to. Hope I didn't jinx myself. My buddy gave up on spot. told him what I did. he doesn't want to do that... he uses his computer a lot more than I do. Refreshing the browser makes you have to jump thru hoops with all the sites you use. For me, it wasn't a long list... here, and my email, and spot
  10. absolutely!!!!! Make time to do it. A sense of purpose. Something to look forward to. I like gardening. A long term project.
  11. Laugh more.. stress less and a healthy amt of exercise is working for me. Never worried about money... never had any to worry about.... that has not changed. Kinda let myself go since "retiring". Stopped shaving and cutting my hair...flaunting the fact that I'm the only male in the fam with hair [that didn't migrate south]. if you call it a regret Moving to Hawaii. Wiped out my "bucket list". I have a loving wife, a roof and a pair of LaScalas...Can't ask for much more

    So...

I do try to keep my garbage in one place.
  13. me too... even with the temps hovering near 110`. Looks like my mom's beef stew. I had a cucumber, onion and tomato salad with vinegar and oil dressing. And a slab of bread for dinner. The cukes and tomato are just for flavoring the onion, in this salad. It basically pickled onion.... the way I proportion the ingredients. I like the onion, so I put more in. I bet Mike @dirtmudd is familiar with this salad. Internet is slow this AM. Fresh coffee this AM. About time for me to turn the animals out....
  14. I lived in Lihue and Hanamaulu. I couldn't walk anywhere. People would always give me a ride, even if I just wanted to walk. Folks knew I worked at the bowling alley...one of two from the mainland. Some crazy times... a lotta fun... but, crazy. After you're there for a while, you find that it isn't as expensive to live. Only go to the grocery for absolute necessities. Fish was cheap. Most my ahi was free, but if I had to pay, going price was $3/lb for sashimi grade. Found it interesting that import and domestic beer cost pretty much the same.... and still cringe at seeing Coors Light on the rocks... Wouldn't be so strange now... Alcoholic seltzers and all...
  15. I tried my hand at green harvest... it's whole different thing with the 12/12 all year. I assume you were not one of the guys dangling from the helicopter, flying over the cane fields
  16. the box is prolly worth something to the right person.
  17. the Bighorn fire pretty much burned itself out. In spite the firefighters efforts, there are but a few places [transmitters and homes] in the SantaCatalinaMts that didn't burn. It turned from a forest fire to a brush fire as the mountains all burned. I stretch it a little... but, more truth than fiction. Was laughing at our one kitten. Not really kittens any more... Was emptying and refilling the kiddie pool. While filling it with the garden hose, she was biting the stream of water, like a dog does... Nothing wrong with my cats... they're just crazy.
  18. From your sig, if you get down this way, you must give Arivaca Lake a try. Don't need a fancy bass rig... a row boat works fine... It's a small "lake". It's more of a cattle tank that holds some big bass. I've pulled a couple 6lb+ out, while fishing for bluegill [on 4lb test]. Pima County is one of the largest counties in the nation, and it got pared down. Used to be [pretty much] all of the land from the GadsdenPurchase in AZ... and I think it has one fishable non-urban lake. Ours. No rain last night. Barely a sprinkle... got one helluva light show. Trying to get some outdoor stuff done before it get hot. That's a pretty narrow window. Between the time it is light enough to see and when the sun makes its appearance. Y'all are prolly gonna get tired of hearing me yammer on about rain... but that is our excitement during the summer. Actual weather. Even clouds are a welcome change from oppressively sunny. We hit the magic 54` dew point. Still under 20% r/h.
  19. oh when I was headed out to pick the wife up, Firefighters camped all over the place. The park was full. The parking lot on the wildlife refuge was full, too. These folk actually camp. Self contained. Fine way to spend the night after bustin' yer butt in a fire all day. They're working the Fresnal Fire about 8 miles from town. I kinda suspect many of them got reassigned from the Bighorn Fire on the mts north of Tucson. That one is winding up. 80% contained... 120,000 acres. had given thought to tagging up with wife's secretary [her alter-ego cheffed several restaurants] and feeding a bunch, using the big/ger kitchen at The Old Schoolhouse/Park.
  20. I worked at an RV factory in Elkhart for a while. I had to drag units into the paint shop to work in the winter. Would need to clear snow off the roofs before bringing them in. On day, had most of one cleaned up, just a film of water left.... and I started sliding toward the edge. Very very slowly.... Couldn't stop and was afraid to make much of a move because it was so slick.... Ever get the feeling you are going to get hurt in the next 30 seconds... see it coming... and can't stop it from happening? I did get off that roof safer as opposed to sooner.... the death in slow motion is still with me.
  21. Boat is an acronym for Bust Out Another Thousand [$] Finally got spot to run, for a moment. See spot run... until it finds a fire hydrant Had to reload firefox... in the process I lost my email... Wrestled it back to function I hate computers!!!!!! I am happy for music I honestly think we were better off/happier w/o everyone online and being a little less informed, if you call all the bs "informed". I'll stop my rant right there If we get any precip, it gonna be later in the day. Clouds burned off and it got warm. Wife succumbed and dipped in the "pool". She's doing OK. A little out of sorts...I am biting my tongue every now and then...
  22. grasshopper

    So...

Don't believe I have had the pleasure of "meeting" you. 50... Oh, my... Foxy 50's. I don't pick on Steve [Big Stew Man] much... I excel in bs... nearly an artist ... and I'm doin' OK. thank you for asking. I'll cut this off before I get off on a serious ramble
  23. well Wash my mouth with whiskey ....as we used to say on my drive to pick up the wife It was mid 80's all along the way ... to a certain point. Had the windows open. At that certain point, it felt like I went for indoors to out. Temp jumped 10 degrees in 5 miles. I guess the sun been shining there.
  24. slept good last night. Dinna have to wait for it to cool off. It's been a little on the warm side lately Bracing for the high hot one/s coming. Hope these 10 - 20% chances of rain happen... if they get over 30% , go to the lake. Have a picnic. Ain't gonna rain. It will just be humid and too cloudy to rain. Going to fetch the wife today. Her post op exam is at 9:30. Have a little time to relax. So... the neighbors are listening to music at 6:30... It that or the shop vac and louder music. I'm not a very good neighbor. Good thing we only have one w/i earshot. Y'all talking about smart dogs.... smart and obedient are very different traits. I had a German Shorthair Pointer for many [17] years. Coyote smart. He would leave the room before he farted... that was nice of him...Not the most obedient animal.... Like a 75lb cat. .
