  1. HornEd You get what you pay for and for the price the Paradigm couldn't be beat. I know that it is not the sub to end all subs but for the money I spent I have yet to see any better specs. Eventually I will step up to an SVS CS-Ultra and move the Paradigm to the rear or just sell it. I only had so much money to spend and yea I could have got the one I wanted (CS-Ultra) but I also bought the kids an ATV and some things for my wife. I guess it was a trade off for me, buy the best or share with the best, my family.
  2. You can buy a twin SVS CS package for around $1250 or a single one with a 700 watt amp for $850 or so. You might even look at the Paradigm PW2200 as a serious option. It has excellent output with 112 DB peaks, 104 DB at 25 hz and I just got one from my local dealer for $599 brand new(list $798). That's about the best bang for the buck I've seen on any sub.
  3. I would look at the SVS CS-Ultra first. After that I would say Velodyne HGS 18 or REL subs. All other subs mentioned with the exception to the BAGEND 18" are good subs. The BagEnd though can only put out 102.5 DB at the 10% THD limit, thats not one to look at IMO. This message has been edited by RWMIN on 07-23-2001 at 09:06 PM
  4. Denon, Marantz and Yamaha seem to be the favorites. I would LOVE to have a Denon 5800 myself or maybe even the 4800.
  5. That's ok if you can't manage, the CT 150 is a great sub too. It has a peak of 111.4 db and it's a Velodyne!
  6. Hey Scott I picked up the Demo PW2200 yesterday until my new one comes in. I think you'll love it. I like it more then my HGS 12! The 12 seemed to go deeper but it also seemed slower then the Paradigm. I have only had the PW2200 in the room for a night so I haven't got to see or listen to much but so far I think sounds better then my HGS 12 did. It is very detailed and authoritive!
  7. I've seen reference from Klipsch suggesting that the new RS 7 surrounds are superior to the S6's for rears with the Legends even though the S6's are great speakers. I have 30's front and KSF S5's A.rear and also KLF 10's B.rear. I agree with HornEd, More Legends are the best. This message has been edited by RWMIN on 07-18-2001 at 08:46 PM
  8. I went to my local dealer today to audition the PW2200 again and they had it marked for $798.00 I pulled out my notes from when and who I got a quote from and they honored it so I bought the Paradigm PW2200 today. I'm lucky to have been quoted that from a manager and to my surprise they actually offered to let me take the one off the floor home untill my new one gets in(2-3 weeks). The PW2200 sounds very similar to my Velodyne but with more output. I really like that!
  9. Yep, the HGS 12 is on it's way to Prior Lake MN. My wife is not pleased with my decision to sell that one. I want one of TV's CS-Ultas SOOOO bad but I've been thinking that if I buy the Paradigm at $599 I can ALSO buy my friends daughters ATV off of him for my kids with the rest of the money from the sell of my Velodyne. I think that my wife might like that more then me being totally selfish and getting what I want. Also, I should double the HGS 12's output for less then half of what I paid for it. BTW with the Velodynes 6:1 compression ratio I needed something else for HT as when something went BOOM there was nearly no increase. I could turn up the volume high enough to make me smile but the rest of a movie soundtrack was terribly overpowered with bass and totally unnatural. I simply "love" the "QUALITY" of bass from that Velodyne but I find that I am more into HT then music where my wife is more into music then HT so she isn't to happy with my choice. I think that she will be happy with either the Paradigm or SVS whichever I end up with and that will be a good thing for both of us. This message has been edited by RWMIN on 07-17-2001 at 09:39 PM
  10. I was just quoted $599 for a Paradigm PW 2200. It would take two almost three of either subs you have mentioned to best the PW 2200 at 20-25 HZ. I like both subs you mentioned but for bang for buck I think the Paradigm is the best in that price range.
  11. Horn Ed It seems that you are saying that these are the sub of subs in your experience. Can they shake the room HARD for HT? I am getting real close to ordering one for myself.
  12. You mention a more powerful amp making a hugh difference. I am wondering what you think you are lacking now? I wish my local guys had a trade up option.
  13. Can you p[lease tell us where you found the Pw2200 at online for that price?

    SVS Ultra

Well, my wife and I have already tried the first "dynomite" Klipsch subs and my wife constantly reminds me of it. Everytime I mention upgrading our Velodyne to a larger Vel or another sub she makes reference to the difference in quality from past (Klipsch LF 10's) to present (Velodyne). I have been waiting for the new line of subs but I don't have near as much hope in them as I did in the beginning (LF series). I would love to have an HGS 18". End of sub upgrades with that one IMO but at that price it really is not an option. I have had a bunch of people willing to pay $1000 for my HGS 12" so that leaves me less then $500 out of my pocket for the CS-Ultra with 1000 amp and Vel 18" performance(?)... I can't wait to hear what you think about your combo!

    SVS Ultra

I was selling my Vel HGS 12 and my wife pretty much put an end to that. She loves the sound from that little sub. I keep telling her to trust me but she wants that Vel. Anyway after reading up on that new sub from SVS, the Velodyne's history. I know she'll approve once she see's and hears it but first I have got to get my credit card from her.

    SVS Ultra

I have got to have one of these. OH my God! If my wife didn't have my credit card I would order it this second. Shes going to hit the roof when she finds out about this sucker. I know, I'll have her call T.V. and tell him to stop making such incredible subs that we just can't live without. This message has been edited by RWMIN on 07-07-2001 at 12:14 PM
  17. I have an HGS 12 and Boa has an HGS 18. The Velodyne HGS line is among the very best out there IMO. For the price there are others that can produce good quality bass and as much as the big Vels for less. Even the V in SVS (Tom Vodhanel) suggests Velodyne subwoofers. He does know his stuff and he says that a couple of SVS subs cost less and perform as well as the big Vels but he also says that the Velodyne 15-18" servo's are top notch all the way. I would LOVE to have an HGS 18 and I wish I spent $150 bucks more and got the 15". The 12" is nice and is only capable of 2.7 % distortion but the Vel HGS 15 adds 6 DB to the 12". That's the same as 2 12's for hardly any extra money. The 18 adds yet another 4 db or so to the 15. They do kick some serious butt. I listed my HGS 12 for sell at $1000 and my wife through a fit. She said that the quality bass that we have now can not be found using any other sub. This message has been edited by RWMIN on 07-01-2001 at 09:35 PM
  18. Your wife is SURE to LOVE the Mahagony Legends if you can still get them. Although I loved Mahogany my wife wanted and got black.
  19. I am looking to replace my sub and I am thinking of the new RSW 12. I would like to know what it is capable of. Klipsch mentioned that the RSW 15 would surpase the HGS 18 by a large amount in output so I am left wondering if the RSW 12 would have the output of the HGS 18. Can you guys give us some real specs on that sub???
  20. I have a pair of S5's that I might part with. I think that the Ref line of surrounds would be better for you though. They will match perfectly with your front mains. I think that would make the rear to front transition more natural then two entirely different lines between front and back.
  21. I have a Vel and I think they are among the very best but I would take the Paradigm PW 2200 over the CT 150. Both are about the same in PEAK output but at 20 hz the Paradigm has A LOT (9 db) more output (10% THD limit). It would take more then 2 CT 150's to best the Paradigm down low. I wonder what a PW 2500 could do ?? I have heard the PW 2200 and it is a good sub. I have not heard the CT 150 but Velodyne has a rep for making some of the very best subs. I know my opinion is subjective but I hope the little bit of info helps out a bit when you dish out that much money for your new sub.
  22. I am letting her go for $1000. You can email me at rickminster@worldnet.att.net if interested. I went to audioreview to list it and boy have they changed the classifieds. Does anybody have any suggestions where to list at other then ebay?
  23. MikeKid Wild West does not sell Klipsch anymore. I went there for my KLF C7 when I was told by Good Guys (2 years ago) that is was discontinued. I had to buy an RS 3 for my KLF 10's. Thanks to this board and Bobg I ended up with the correct center and I was also able to order some KLF 30's elsewhere as those were also discontinued with the Center. It was Good Guys who discontinued the line and yet they failed to inform me of that so I thought Klipsch discontinued the line. I had to buy what they had in if I wanted something from the Legend line (KLF 10's). Thanks again to the board I now have what I wanted. Only problem is I am still paying for it all and yearning for a listen of the new line.
  24. I have left several posts on how bad my Local Good Guys store is regarding Klipsch. I spent thousands there and I will not drop another cent their way. I will take my chances on non authorized internet dealers. After all I can't get screwed any greater from them then from my local store.
  25. I vote for the Denon 3801 too. Maybe even stretch for the 4800. You should be able to find it online for about 1250. You may like something else more thou so if you can check out Yamaha, Marantz, Outlaw and as many others as possible. For a 1000 bucks you can choose from a lot of good units.
