  1. Hi, I know this is a pretty old thread but I’ll see if anyone is still around. I'm comparing Line Magnetic v Primaluna, the one thing that PL seems to have is much more flexibility with tube selection. LM seems locked into 1 style of tube per amp. Is this correct? Also, is counterfeit LM an issue, is China HiFi a viable resource? Both sound great
  2. Hi, I know this is 7 months old, just wondering if amp is still for sale? Thanks, Ted
  3. Got it, I will bypass dac as an experiment, yes. Emotiva BasX150
  4. I’ve always used usb from laptop to Dac, then EQ, pre amp, lastly Emotiva amp. using Spotify premium, can’t remember the specs, not as good as tidal, but good. Wouldn’t using 3.5mm jack on laptop mean using the worst possible dac, the one in the laptop? I could try as a test, but it’s a bad way to connect. it seems like room acoustics, which I do not understand, standing waves, nulls, etc. I definitely change the bass by moving into corner, out from wall, corners give most bass, which is what I consistently read. Anybody think absorbers or diffusers close to speakers help? Can’t imagine that would increase the bass, I think just change the character of it?
  5. That looks like mine. 75 wpc. It sound more solid and tight than my schiit Aegir, which sounds mushy on the CW’s
  6. So perhaps the next question would be REL or SVS ?
  7. One thing I noticed after downloading a dB meter for my phone is that my usual listening levels are 60-70db . Louder than this the bass certainly becomes very prominent. Are others getting good bass at 65db or is this the problem
  8. No, don’t have test equipment
  9. I have a straight up power amp, no controls. Pre amp is volume and input selector, and separate EQ. Hardly any settings to mess with. Switching polarity was negligible in difference, I probably don’t have very sensitive ears... I just don’t see anything like people saying “tons of bass”. It’s so confusing. They sound great otherwise, I did not think I would need a sub, but....
  10. That’s a good idea, when was listening With the back off it seems like a lot of bass is being produced, it seems like the midrange is so prominent though that it overpowers the base, would a crossover adjustment be needed. But I’m sure Crites had made a ton of B3 crossovers so you would think that would have come up
  11. Yes, 4 frequency Schiit Loki, 20hz at 12db gain, 400hz at 2db. location does make a big difference, I’m finding that. But haven’t found a location that give me too much bass
  12. Newer Emotiva power amp, 75 wpc, schitt Saga preamp. schiit dac from laptop, exact set up with Elac speakers that made a lot of base for a 6" bookshelf woofer
  13. I checked, but I could switch and see what happens
  14. I've read every thread I can find about Cornwalls that aren't producing bass. I've checked all driver leads inside and speaker leads, all seem correct for polarity(?) I've moved them around room and i can only get base by boosting the full 12 db through EQ, even then its not overwhelming. I've had other speakers in same room, same location without bass problems. New Crites Crossovers in approx 2004 (B-3) could something in crossover have gone bad? 75 wpc class A/B Emotiva amp. Im only 2 channel stereo, no home theater, not looking for gut thumping, but the bass really seems light, EQ all the way up makes it ok , never overbearing.
  15. I’m just hoping with the long history of Cornwall, and the experience of this group, they are some accepted mods that are generally considered upgrades by most listeners.
  16. Can you seriously buy them from Klipsch still?
  17. Yeah, Ive looked at Crites horn, as i understand is a JBL 2380 clone, 2'' throat. Read mixed reviews of the JbL, some love it, others dont. but it does seem most Cornscala owners are happy... Ive looked at what Volti is building for their updated LaScala, which looks similar to 2380.
  18. Hi, I’ve read a lot of the threads that talk about horns, but still not enlightened, certainly horn design is a complex endeavor, but is there any consensus on installing a larger mid horn on Cornwalls. Everybody raves about the mids on LaScala and K Horns, both with large horns. I am exploring replacing stock horn with, I think, something larger. Even if I have to cut a hole in the back and have driver outside of cabinet. Like PWK said “music lives in the midrange” And I want as much as possible. thanks so much for any perspectives on this. Using A55g drivers.
  19. I will read the link...thanks for the 4 ohm info! I’ll let you know if I have questions after reading tonight
  20. If I did make a woofer change, I was thinking Eminance Kappa pro 15A, 101 dB, 46 htz. 8 ohms. Is 4 ohm compatible? In kind of fuzzy on impedance
  21. Not a real base freak, and not a home theater person, but I do want some solid base, although I appreciate the laid back loose base of the Cornwalls, but a bit more is needed. i will have to see if I can locate the terminals you mentioned. Any more info would be great to have. I do have Crites B3 crossover.
  22. ...and stories that start with, "Hold my beer" usually don't end so good!
  23. Yes, midrange is very prominent, I feel like the base is overshadowed by mids, the woofers can make base, but it’s just too quiet. I am pro EQ and use it make adjustments to taste. Interested in your take on replacement woofers, I feel like a woofer with a higher sensitivity would be more prominent in the mix. I do want to go slow, but I’m fine altering the sound to suite my ears and taste, even if I move the speaker slightly away from what Klipsch intended, but I did buy Klipsch for a reason, so I want to be careful
