  1. you are right, the 4.1 sub does have a problem. The 2.1 sub does not hit as low as the 4.1 but is definately much louder than the 4.1 sub. No wonder the 4.1s are out of production.
  2. yup, thats right the 4.1s are not only out of stock they have also been out of production since atleast 5/5/02.... atleast thats when i got to know of it. Anyways if you are planning to buy a set for yourself then 2.1s are the way to go!!!. However i won't recommend the 5.1s for alteast the time being due to it's faulty amp and we are still not 100% sure if it has been fixed. By the way you would never regret buying the 2.1s...
  3. or simply plug-in the upgraded wires on the left speakers and use the default cable on the right speakers or vice versa. I think it'll be really easy to note the difference this way.
  4. then i guess my only option is to hope that the quality issue is resolved automatically when the static/hiss is corrected
  5. have you ever heard anyone complaining about the quality of the PM satellites before?
  6. alright here's the truth, i have heard two variations of 4.1s. One that sounds pretty cool with a more enveloping effect than the 2.1s.... but still the bass limiter kicks in too early as compared to the loudness of bass on 2.1s.... and i don't mind the rears in music. The other one sucks bigtime, the sound quality is not good at all, infact i enjoy the quality of my altec lansing ACS33 ($50) more than those PMs, and i am not kidding, the bass limiter as usual kicks in too early. I have heard two of those crappy 4.1 sets.... crappy right out of the box.... as far as 5.1s are concerned i never commented on them, infact i never got the chance to hear them, but i can conclude that they are awesome WHEN they work.
  7. i agree with you, the 4.1s suck. Both the 120V version and specially the 230V version.
  8. if you get the same hissing in standby mode then it might be a faulty control pod. Did you notice any problem with the high frequency response of your system?
  9. Go into the options menu of your game and set it to four speaker mode, maybe that'll help.
  10. Yeah the sub gives up quite easily. But it doesn't take 5 mins to get it back in action, i just have to stop and play the song again. The sats should not sound unbalanced, if they do then you have a problem in either your sound card or the system. BTW try the 2.1s, their bass unit doesn't give up easily though, it keeps on going, the sats are more than loud for desktop needs. No wonder the 4.1s went out of production (before June 2002).
  11. Since your system was out of warranty, you could have opened up the back of the sub and looked at the fuse inside it without voiding the warranty. Now, even if you just had a blown fuse they would charge you $50 for replacing it.
  12. Same here, my previous 2.1s sounded so clear that i was amazed each time i listened to them, but these are no more than average speakers, infact i find my Altec Lansing ACS33 more enjoyable in terms of clarity.
  13. well................. no suggestions on that.............. any suggestions on whether it could be the control pod that is causing the problem as i am getting the static/hiss even when i put the system in standby mode and pull out the connectors from the sound card.... could a faulty control pod affect the high frequency response and overall sound quality as well?
  14. all the people who have the hissing/static problem, have you noticed any degradation in the high frequency response..... it's just that i also have the same problem and the high frequency responce is just not that good (don't worry the problem is not the sound card).... and now i don't enjoy the exact same MP3 songs as much as i used to....
  15. After sending my system for repairs for $70, i finally got it back after two weeks, i opened the system only to find the same hissing/static in the speakers.... plus the quality on the sats is also not up to the mark, specially the tweeters are not doing the right job. I'm sending the system back for repairs AGAIN.... cause it was not repaired at all (for $70) in the first place. Has anybody else noticed a degradation in the high frequency response from the sats after he/she had a hissing/static problem with the system???, is there any chance that the high frequency response might automatically be corrected when the hissing/static is removed???.
  16. ok, let me put it this way, if i connect the PM satellites to some other powerful amplifier with the same specs, do u think that the satellites would be able to support even higher volumes. or is it that the amplifier with the 4.1s is good but the satellites get out of control after a certain volume and can't handle so much power....
  17. although i think that the 2.1s are worth paying each and every penny...
  18. At a certain volume the soundstage starts to flatten and the sound doesn't seem to be as balanced. How can i be sure if it's the satellite that has reached it's limit or the amplifier that is straining...
  19. "we are lucky to be owners of klipsch speakers - that we have the funds to actually afford speakers of this quality and caliber." I don't think the 4.1s are worth even a single penny over $100...
  20. You're right, louder doesn't mean better. Just keep in mind that i was satisfied with my 2.1s but i sold them and bought the 4.1s, i am now stuck with this piece of crap. 2.1s are better in every aspect... in my opinion (after comparing 2 individual 2.1s with 3 individual 4.1s)
  21. I think you should buy another set of 2.1s rather than buying a 4.1 system. The 2.1s are far better than the 4.1s in my opinion, louder volume and bass, and no limiter thingie. The volume output by 2.1s at 12'o clock is the max volume output by 4.1s sadly. And when you remove the rear sats you'd be left with even lesser volume. I remember Justin talking about an authorized dealer who sells the 2.1s for $90..... you'd have to ask him for more info.
  22. Well i also have a stabilizer connected to my system (4.1) with a 5A fuse in it, so i don't have to worry about the voltage and current anymore.
