sure see the pictures. Flat wound are designed to minimize real estate on a board. When winding a flat wound cap it is virtually impossible to maintain constant film and or foil tension, with a round wound it is easy to maintain constant wind tension. Constant tension is much preferred. Want an even better cap? Stacked film or stacked foil and film are about as good as it can get see picture. Hope this helps you.

What specific caps would you use when replacing the original caps, whilst preserving the original sonic characteristics and perhaps improving the sound?

That's quite the amp. You'd probably do yourself better by getting a good powered subwoofer to help beef up the LS's bottom end.

Thank you for your reply. I think that's exactly what I'm going to do although I am not really disappointed in the La Scala's bottom end. While they don't go super low, the bass that they do have is very fast and accurate to my ears. I just need to figure out which sub will blend in with them the best. Any suggestions? Accurate music reproduction is my primary focus.

    As usual, you nailed it.

Part of my enjoyment of this hobby includes discussing how to value Heritage speakers and using data to compare speakers currently on sale to previous sold items.  I would never put my opinion on pricing out there if this were a sale by a forum member.  Even now if I found out this was a sale by one of our forum members I would go back and delete my posts.

The thing is, relative to how expensive new "audiophile" speakers are and how amazing old Heritage speakers sound in comparison to anything else on the market I think they should be worth a lot more money. Many would say I overpaid for my La Scala's but I just bought a pair of speakers I will probably own for the rest of my life.

Well this is totally normal and why the sub has multiple line level inputs, comes with an IR Remote control, and has an App for adjusting volume. Good luck connecting a sub with variable input in this scenario where the volume of the sub matches or blends with the volume of the speakers at all volumes. The sub volume will have to be adjusted regardless of connection method.

Does the sub filter out the low frequencies before sending the signal to the amp? And is there anyway to be able to adjust the volume of the amp and sub simultaneously?

Apparently good enough. Have had Klipsch like a LaScala pair with old original AL crossover.

Sounded good to me. Think were 84s.

Was wondering if you got the sound sorted out. Good deal then and cool.

I am going to send them in early next week. I will let you know my before and after impressions in 2 -3 weeks.

I'm actually a little nervous to touch them because they are sounding so beautiful to me. All original AA crossovers from '79 that hadn't be played in almost 10 yrs when I bought them. They didn't sound good at first. Yesterday I turned the system on and couldn't stop listening all day. Can 41 yr. old caps still be good?

  7. My system consists of a Bluesound Node 2i going into a Benchmark DAC3 B input to a Tsakiridis Aeolos Ultra amp driving La Scala's. I would like to add a SVS SB16 Ultra. Can someone please tell me how to accomplish this and have the correct filtering between the sub and La Scala's?

wondering if anyone has used the Klipsch Authorized repair company JEM performance and what Capacitors they use in their recap kits? I was leaning with the Crites Sonic caps but am curious what JEM is using. thanks for any input.

After speaking at length to Jim Moorhouse I feel pretty comfortable with having JEM update my crossovers. The caps they use were actually selected and authorized by engineers at Klipsch and the only ones that will keep your Heritage speakers authentic. It's hard to argue with that.

  9. I am new to owning Klipsch speakers, having recently purchased a set of vintage La Scala's, and as such I have never experimented with different combinations of amps driving them. I can say that my initial impression of these speakers was not very good. The speakers were unused for close to 10 yrs and I don't know if the caps needed to recharge, the woofer needed to loosen up, or if my brand new amp needed some time on it, or a combination of all of the above but after a few hours the sound has really blossomed and is just amazing. I am driving the La Scala's with a brand new Tsakiridis Aeolos Ultra amp which uses 4 x KT150 and 4 x 12AT7. I have it in Triode mode and it sounds really good. But now I want to experiment with different amps. I really love the warmth in the midrange of some tube amps and I don't believe the Tsakiridis exhibits much of that. It is pretty neutral, which I know is a normally a good thing. I just want to see if I can find a combination that my ears might enjoy even more.
