  1. Opinion on these? 1978, 9/10 condition all-original and with burgundy grilles (weren’t these rare?). Guy wants $800. Pinning down pricing on H1s is weird as everyone here is reporting steals of 2-500 bucks but I’m seeing an average market of 600-1,000 depending on condition and figuring of walnut veneers. Even seeing eBay completed sales upward of $1,600.
  2. Thanks @Rivernuggets! Headed into the city for breakfast and snagged ‘em on the way home. He took $100 and even threw in a generous bundle of Monster Cable. Super-nice guy. They’re practically flawless and sound great. The lightness at the bottom sides is from glass reflection. Not faded in the slightest and the bottoms look as good as the tops. Wow. And no they’re not staying there. Temporarily audition 😉

Wouldn’t happen to still be available?
  4. Initial impressions are very positive—zero confirmation bias. They easily saturate the space with great theatre sound while watching media, if only I have to turn the volume a little higher to approach the CF4’s sensitivity. This is obviously to be expected. I’m not done tweaking especially in the subwoofer area as there’s more harmony to be had. Throwing on S3 E1 of The Mandalorian, and later The Bad Batch (I love watching Star Wars anime with my son), was fun right off the bat. These KGs are nimble and handle action scenes superbly. Of note here, I’m still running the KV4 center. These were made for the Epics but the timber still feel quite natural. I may not know what I’m missing here and I’ll probably be on the hunt for the centers voiced for these KGs. I have some research to do but it seems to be the 2.2V or 2.5V? Imaging is fantastic. I auditioned them on a McIntosh 252 playing stuff off Tejas (ZZ Top), Beatles, and some newer age stuff. Everything you’d expect from Tejas, warm with nice roll-off, to open and airy on the new stuff. On The Beatles’ Taxman, Paul’s bass thumps were thick and controlled. The handsome risers help with bringing the soundstage into focus. I‘ll perhaps even grab some cushioned couplers for the bases to eliminate any possible dancing of the speakers, as they’re fully on hardwood floors. Aesthetically, they’re beautiful and in my favorite Klipsch veneer. I’ll probably have a hard time finding a walnut center channel to match as most centers seem to be black. At any rate, they’re a fantastic find and will always be in the family. So to conclude, I couldn’t be happier as I achieved both goals of downsizing and retaining exceptional fidelity.
  5. Thanks! My uncle couldn’t praise them enough, and he owns Chorus IIs.
  6. For sure. I do run dual 12” subs with the CF4s, so hoping the difference won’t be too stark.
  7. Just to give an idea, straight on isn’t an issue, but when folks sit off to the side, my left channel blocks off some of the TV. I plan to move the TV down ~4” which’ll further exacerbate the issue.
  8. I'm not sure if this immediately helps your query. If it does, great. If not, let me know and I'll go looking for that box.
  9. For sure. I may need a little time to dig out the box where I have them carefully stored. I believe I posted a bunch of info a few years back in the forum when I went thru that unfortunate KV4 debacle. I'll look for that too.
  10. Yeah for sure. I have 2 extra diaphrams on hand (CF234 and KV4 all used the same one). Got a line on a local pair of light oaks with Crite's rebuild for $550. They look to be mint. These CFs got some depth though, even the smaller variants. 16" on just the CF2s, whereas the KG4s are only 10.75". When considering downsizing, CF2s are 13" wide, KGs are like 15.75" so that's the only area the CFs win, and not by much. Height 24.25" vs CF's 37", which is substantially taller but still will not block the TV I don't think. CF4s at 44" tall are blocking a nice corner of the TV at a side angle though!
  11. I'm never selling the CF4s. Those were a gift from family and will always stay in family. I actually have extra 2" tweeters on hand from a separte incident should I ever need to replace one. But yeah, I'm sold chiefly on the KG4s form factor for the room they'll be going into, coupled with the high praise I've heard about them. I actually bought 1 CF2 before stripping it to rebuild a KV4, but before doing so auditioned the single speaker, and it too sounded great. Guess I can't go wrong either way and it just comes down to form factor, which I think the KG4 might win.
  12. I'm not getting rid of them, just moving to another area of my house. The left speaker blocks part of the TV viewing from the side and are otherwise a bit large for the space.
  13. Can you elaborate? I value your opinion!
  14. Pretty much what I was thinking. Uncle’s with the insignia are ‘85s, so pretty much start of the run.
  15. I’m looking to downsize from my CF4s in a particular space in my house, so it was between these two. I’ve been all but sold on the KG4s by family of mine who say that they are fantastic speakers. I also love my Epics so figured it might be a good fit to stay in that line. The CF2 would accomplish the downsizing but they would still be a fair bit larger and heavier than the KG4s save for a bit narrower footprint. What do you guys think?
  16. Yeah my uncle and I were in question about this but we got to the bottom of it when we called my other uncle, his brother, to check his KG4s and they did not have the insignia. He’s the original owner and never replaced them. So, mystery solved!
  17. Thanks guys! Can always rely on the Klipsch community to help in a hurry. I found a few pairs near me, ones in black that are supposedly in pretty good condition for $300, and a walnut set at a store for $519, but I’ve yet to reel and deal on those. Came to the conclusion my CF4s are just too huge for the space they’re in and they also block the TV at an angle. So those beasts are going to go into the next home’s home theater and I’ll likely set them up as 2 channel stereo in the interim. Therefore I really like the form factor of the KG4s coupled with their amazing performance. This also might warrant grabbing a downsized center channel to match with whatever veneer I go with. Without researching, does anybody know which center channel is a match to those? Or should I just go out and look for the KLF C7? I’ve heard a lot of good things about that one. I currently use the KV4 with my Epics. They both look pretty similar save for thr C7s actually having a wood veneer whereas the KV4s do not.
  18. I’m shopping for a pair of kg4s and noticing a vast majority of them don’t have the klipsch insignia on the passive radiator. Were there years where they didn’t come with them, or is it an indicator they were replaced? Thanks!
  19. I don’t doubt it. The single CF2 I found sounded great on its own. Just a fantastic speaker line all-around.
