One word........stupidity!

Nice speakers, I had two pairs about 10 years ago. I totally regret selling them. Times were tough then, looking better now. Reference 7 system in the making!

RF-7's

I did a test recently @ tweeters between a B&K AVR-307 and a Denon AVR-5803 thru RF-7's. The 307 blew it a way in every aspect.

Today I had the chance to demo the Denon 5803 vs. B&K AVR 307 with RF-7s. Without a doubt the B&K blew the Denon away! B&K AVR 307 - Clairty and Soundstage. It has a warm overall sound. Denon 5803 - Harsh at higher volumes, voice and highs seem to breakup. Not worth the high price tag. Boa12 - Also played with the REF 30 running through the B&K 307. They didn't have a B & K amp available. The REF 30 was nice but there were some problems. Maybe with just the floor model I hope. Anyway for no reason it would let out a high pitch sound (Like the emergency broadcast tone) fairly loud. Otherwise it seems pretty nice. It made low level pops while switching sources and I didn't here any hiss. So now it is time to decide: Outlaw Audio 950 Preamp and Amp - $2499 Preamp has been known for loud hissing but has been recalled and tweaked. New preamp is reported better but still has a hissing problem. Don't know how it will sound until it gets delivered. Leaning towards this setup but I am concerned about the reported hiss. Additionally, if I get separates I want the preamp and amp the be from the same line. (What do you think?) B&K AVR 307 - $2500 Missing some DSP and could use a little more on the top end. (AVR 507 - new receiver due out in OCT @ $4000) B&K REF 30 (REF40 0r 50 due out in OCT)with B&K REF 7270 AMP - $6000 Hoping that seperates and the extra power would push B&K over the top. Kain. I saw this in the movie theater. It had some pretty good action. Sound was pretty good. I thought the movie itself showed us the horrors of what we must do during war to protect our nations secrets. PROTECT THE CODE! I also liked it when Close Air Support was called in during the battle scenes, AWESOME! RP ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

The reason I am asking is that on the Denon Homepage they have new receiver lines except for AVR-2802, 3802 and 4802. All other models have a 3 series. Example AVR-5800 was replaced by AVR-5803 and AVR-1802 was replaced by AVR-1803. ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Anyone know if Denon will be releasing replacements for AVR-3802 and AVR-4802 in the near future? ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

RangerSix, I am a former member of AA. Never did the quest for the Black and Gold. Figured you were part of that group and had to fire a shot. RP ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

"A Tab is a Tab, but the scroll is a way of life." Enjoyed We Were Soldiers, but Blackhawk Down and Saving Private Ryan really hit home. RP ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz This message has been edited by PYRO on 08-21-2002 at 09:46 AM

Unfortuantly I am living in Hawaii where dealerships are limited. The B&K dealer is located on a different island. And Klipsch dealer only carries heritage line. I have auditioned the RF-7's several times on the mainland, only with A/V receivers (Pioneer elite and Yamaha not sure of the models). I can order the speakers through AAFES (Military Base Exchange) and have them delivered for $3300.00 (US), they are an authorized Klipsch Dealership. I will be testing the B&K line with the RF-7's at a local tweeter store when I am on business in the D.C. area. I think I will still go with the five channel amp and in the future I can always get another 2 channel amp. ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Well I have been doing some serious shopping for a new A/V Receiver or separates to go with RF-7's, RS-7's and RC-7. Rumor has it that B & K will be introducing the REF-40 preamp. Its new features in addition to the REF -30 preamp will include Dolby Pro Logic II. This was one of the must haves on my new system. It looks like I will be going to separates: B & K REF 40 B & K REF 7250 Thanks to boa12 for pointing me to B & K. Although my wife things you should, well I will just leave it at that. Any Comments! ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Boa, I checked out the B & K receivers on-line. They both get some good reviews. Homepage didn't give detailed specs on subwoofer x-over. Also prices are a bit more than I wanted to spend. I was hoping not to spend more then $2000(US) on a receiver or pre/post amps. My old sound system of years gone past was 4 X Hersey II's with DBX pre/post amp. Checked out the specs on your pre/post amps.....Nice! PYRO ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Thanks for the info on the crossovers. This is not making it any easier to decide on which receiver to get. Decisions, Decisions! ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

What is the crossover frequency for the Marantz SR-8200? Does it have a small and large speaker setting similar to the Denon 3802/4802? I like the options with the Denon 4802 but it is expensive. Speaker setup will be: RF-7 RC-7 RS-7 SVS PCIplus 20-39 Thanks! ------------------ Computer Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
